There are many things Meyer's good at, but backing down has never been one of them. Even though their knock isn't responded to, even though it's just a little too quiet (strange, how that seems like such a cliched thing to say, and yet applies so well in situations like this) he goes ahead and pushes open the door anyway. At least Al knows how to handle a weapon and isn't liable to accidentally shoot him in the head if things suddenly get chaotic.

There's a paranoid part of him that wonders whether he's being set up for something, but that's ridiculous, isn't it? They're just here for an errand, and then they're going to properly celebrate. Gun drawn, hand steady, he advances, not sure what kind of place they're entering or what they're supposed to be finding here.
