Beach Log; INCOMPLETE
When; Opening Day (Sept. 25th)
Rating; PG+ 'cause who knows?
Characters; Ranmaru [
elegantorchid] & Kurogane [
black_ginryuu]
Summary; Kurogane is upset about Fai and everything to do with Fai, and the hordes of fangirls doesn't really help anything. Time to get AWAY~
Log;
When Kurogane pulled open the door he was hit with a warm, salty breeze that brushed the hair back from his face and softened the worry lines just a touch. The sun was warm, like back in Nippon, and the sound of waves was already starting it's work on relaxing his muscles.
The sand that fell around and over his sandals was warm, golden and fine. The water was a clear blue that stretched far out into the horizon. The boats on the marina were a little distracting, but if he walked in the other direction he wouldn't even have to meet anyone from those either.
It was the perfect spot to mope.
Hopefully Ranmaru would get there soon.

After having taken care of the ladies who called themselves fangirls, Ranmaru made his escape. Speaking to Kurogane told him something was up, but not wishing to pry where people could see, he silently headed out to find him where he said he would be.
As soon as he came towards the beach, Ranmaru was struck by how calming the environment seemed to be around him. Being raised in the mountains and snow-capped lands, Ranmaru's closest experience with water was only in lakes and waterfalls, so to see the ocean was rather entrancing in a way.
However, he knew he had no time to waste, and after a quick scan of the golden-kissed area, he spotted the form of his companion and pulling off his sandals to feel the sand between his toes and laughed as the breeze blew back his hair.
"Kurogane-san!" he called, as a greeting, running up over to him and smiling. "Take your sandals off.. the sand feels great!"
Silver eyes scanned the other's face and he knew the other had something he was keeping. Still keeping the concerned gaze, he tilted his head to a side.
"Is something the matter..?"

Maybe it was the relaxing heat, or the distractions in his head, but either way Kurogane was genuinely startled when Ranmaru arrived by his elbow. Some of the surprise may have revealed what he was really thinking on his face, but it was more likely that Ranmaru had intuitively figured it out a long time ago.
It was true that something was bothering him, but he stayed silent and bent down to remove the buckles and ties on his sandals to hide the conflict on his face. He didn't usually like talking about his problems, but anyone who met Ranmaru would attest to the fact that he was was a very enticing listener.
"No," he replied finally, rather weakly and just begging for someone to challenge it.

The evasive actions served further to fuel Ranmaru's original theory about Kurogane being under pressure about something. Against the silence that was filed with the soft crashing of waves against the shore, the young soldier stood his ground and still holding his sandals, moved his hands behind his back, and leaned closer, his long ponytail falling over one shoulder as he did so-- so he could speak to Kurogane in the position the other had gone into.
"If there was not, you would not look so troubled." he spoke genuinely, his eyes filled with concern still. Then, with a light sigh, he shook his head and smiled, taking a step back and glancing about. To just a short distance, there was a small pagoda-styled seating space with relaxing mats and a shade overlooking the beach-- there were many scattered around, and Ranmaru smiled, then turned back to Kurogane and once the other had straightened, he grabbed his arm and tugged him.
"Come on," he urged him, motioning to the seating space. A quiet place to be unbothered in, and the ambience of the ocean. "I think you need to get a load off your mind."

For once, Kurogane just let out a sigh and allowed himself to be dragged over to the canopied lying area. He had invited Ranmaru along on the theory that he hated to be brooding over something, but he hated talking about his problems, so he could just pretend Ranmaru had pried it out of him.
Settling down cross-legged on the mats, Kurogane was straight-backed, but looking downwards defeatedly. Fai had been weighing on his mind even more than usual lately, and he didn't know what to do about it. Studying his broad, calloused hands where they rested on his thighs, he wondered why they couldn't just solve all his problems. Why get into this messy grey area of feelings that he couldn't define?
"I don't know what to do, and I hate it," he said after the long silence, still avoiding meeting Ranmaru's honest eyes by loosening the belt on his robe and letting the shoulders fall off around his waist. The warm air felt good on his tanned skin. If only he could go home...

Ranmaru wasn't blind to things like this.. he had his reasons, but they could wait.. especially when Kurogane seemed so tense over this, regardless of how little he was showing it.
Kneeling beside him, he let his hands over his knees and finally, after thinking things over, he gave the other a warm smile.
"Often we know little to do where it comes to ourselves." he told him softly. Then, hesitantly, he extended a hand to brush back Kurogane's bangs lightly, looking at him encouragingly.
"But there is nothing that cannot be done to ease one's mind, ne?" he smiled then. "What's the matter?"
no subject
"Fai," he heaved out. "He's... an idiot."
It was a lame way to describe him, he knew, but there was too much to say concerning Fai and too few words.

He couldn't say he wasn't surprised. After all, he'd been watching his companion for a while now and there were certain things you merely noted and stored away in mind, when the other would speak, and from what they would speak of.
Attempting to get Kurogane to say more, Ranmaru chuckled with a small shake of his head. "You and him seem to be on pleasant terms." he said instead. "So I will assume what you say is said in fondness."
He continued to confidently look into Kurogane's gaze.
"But for him to have made an impact in a way that has you this distressed.." he turned, propping up an arm over a knee and turning his head to watch the ocean. "There's certainly something more."
A knowing look in his eyes, he turned to look back at Kurogane.
"He is not opening up to you?" might as well take a stab in the dark and see where that leads.

"He doesn't trust me," he grumbled, frown deepening. "He won't tell me what bothers him and he won't let me help!"
Running a fustrated hand through his short-cropped hair, the dark and normally stoic ninja leant back on his hand and glared at Ranmaru futilely.
"Every time I try and pin something on him, he slips through my fingers."

Tilting his head to a side, nodding to the spoken words, Ranmaru then gave them an amount of thought. Finally, he smiled and shook his head.
"That is where you're going wrong. The more you attempt to force anything out of him, the more he will evade you, Kurogane. Perhaps it is something he thinks.. you are better off not knowing." Ranmaru turned his palm upward to stare at it.
"If you care for him.. then you will let him have that until he is ready to speak. Even if it takes forever."
He turned his hand back, smiling to himself, then moving it back to touch the warrior's hand that he was leaning against, in a gesture of silent affection.
"He doesn't seem like the kind of person who would act without knowing the consequences of his actions. Fai-san thinks well of you too, you know."
no subject
That didn't stop him from frowning deeply almost to the point of a pout at Ranmaru's unfortunately sensible words.
"He should know that I just want to protect him," he let out in a mumbling sigh, the slightest hint of a sulk in his voice. "He's carrying a dangerious weight around with him and it will break him if he doesn't share it. Bastard."
Funny how Fai never failed to rouse Kuroganes deepest emotions.
"I don't want to wait."
Now it was definitely a sulk. The hand not next to Ranmaru's made absent-minded symbols on the mats.

"Kurogane.." Ranmaru moved his hand away, instead, moving it to his face and touching the warrior's cheek, making him face him. A quiet moment in which all he had to say was said in his eyes, and he let his fingers trace the outline of Kurogane's jaw, before shaking his head slightly.
"He knows what he's doing. I don't know how I can say this, I don't know why. I just know he is. I also know.." he smiled weakly. "That any more pressure and he'll refuse to speak of it entirely."
He let his fingers brush further against his cheek, before letting his hand drop.
"You should tell him, how you feel. But let him make the decision of telling you what you think he should. It's his right."
no subject
"You're right," he answered, closing his eyes and bowing his head slightly to Ranmaru's wisdom. The fingers had left a light tingling on his cheek like the brush of silk. "I need to stop bothering him about it. He will have to get used to the idea that I'm not going anywhere eventually."
An encouraging half-smile came back on Kurogane's lips as a breeze blew in some sand onto the mats and ruffled his hair. It smelled of the inviting sea, clean and refreshing.
"Thank you, Ranmaru."

But the most wonderful thing right then, was seeing Kurogane's smile. It made Ranmaru's cheeks warm in satisfaction, and he moved a hand to keep his hair from coming into his eyes, turning his gaze shyly down when thanked.
"Whatever for..?" he asked, in a softer voice. Then, he shook his head and raised his gaze, smiling warmly at him. "It is what I would tell you anytime."
For the briefest moment, his gaze lingered, before he glanced towards the ocean.
"I just want you to be happy.."
[ooc; They so are. X3]

"If you stay happy then I'll be happy," he rumbled, shifting his weight to settle more comfortably facing the water.
And that was quite simply that. He was resolute now, with nothing to worry about, so nothing was left but to have fun with life while it lasted. Besides. They were at the beach.
no subject
"Then you should be happy now." and that was that. They were even.
Turning, he settled himself to Kurogane's side, moving his knees up to his chest, and an arm draped over them... but his other hand, simply went to Kurogane's hand and slipped his fingers into them, giving him an assuring squeeze.
"I've never seen the ocean as much before this." he told Kurogane, quietly. "Maybe one day, I'll be ready to swim." he laughed softly and tilted his head to a side, so that his head was resting against Kurogane's shoulder.
"Let's come here again sometime, alright?"
no subject
"Even though Nippon is an island, you've never been to the sea?" Kurogane teased gently, even though he personally had only been to the sea once or twice.
"Sounds good," he agreed, finally relaxing with the warm sun, soothing waves, and the comfort of a friend at his side. Things would be okay.
