Left...now a right...left once more.
V reviewed his mental map of the webwork of tunnels as he raced from one darkened junction to another.
After a great deal of time wasted gathering information on the possible holding places for those taken this day, he had quickly ascertained the best possible area of the webworked Underground for Millenium to occupy.
He had been there only once before, as the area had been near-infested with Horrors, but the wrought iron bars on the neatly ordered rows of prison cells had left an impression, and he had avoided the area since.
Now knowing that Evey and Valerie both were trapped in such a place made him at once angry, and gulty.
Anger for the gall that creature that he simply could no longer refer to as 'Angel' had.
Here and there he was forced to pause, and allow groups of two and three sentries pass by whilst he stayed immobile cloaked in shadows.
In his current mood he would have been all too happy to gut the lot of them, but time was of the essence, and becoming mired in a meaningless battle would waste precious minutes.
The white bishop had taken both black king and queen, and now only a single knight moved across the board to reclaim pieces that meant so much more than a tactical advantage.

The blind man moved easily through the darkness, staying close along the wall to find turns and dead ends. In one hand he had his unsheathed blade and the other held the case that was the other half of his cane. Alone, he had to stay on his guard out of the chance one of the adversaries found him wandering.
Everywhere he could hear the commotion of voices echoing through the tunnels. But which were the ones he should be following? He frowned at the repeating thought; depending on voices wasn't going to help him much either. He silently wished that Nill would have been able to yell out something that could give him a lead as he came upon another left turn. The priest paused at the corner and cautiously reached out his sword to locate the opposing wall of the new corridor. Once found, he began again on his blind exploration.

With a soft sigh, Valerie tilted her head against the bars of the cell, eyes closing. Her vision had adjusted to the darkness by now, but it was still near impossible to tell where anyone was, if everyone was relatively safe and uninjured, or even how many there were. Though she might not reveal it outwardly, on the inside she was screaming, shaking with anxiety, trying to relax enough to figure a way out. But all she could think of was that it wasn't supposed to be like this anymore. It wasn't. They hadn't even done anything. At least before there had been a reason (however ridiculous it had been). She could decipher no similarities between any of the prisoners this time around.
And they had taken children.
Responding to her thoughts, the hand she had snaked through the bars into the neighbouring cell shifted and lifted a little, raising to stroke the soft strands of Nill's hair in an attempt to keep the mute girl calm. It was another reason Valerie refused to let her fear show through her voice, or her touch. The girl was only fourteen, and in this situation... well. They needed a steady hand. All of them.
Being the centre at least gave Valerie something else to focus on, instead of the harsh press of darkness and the weeping and screaming echoing down the halls.

Her mind was currently grappling with the question of whether or not they'd drugged her. After the pain of being kicked repeatedly in the sides and struck with the butt of a gun (something that had seemed strangely reminiscent of Jordan Tower, though she'd been hit on the side of the head this time), Evey wouldn't have noticed the bite of a needle into her hip. Especially not in retrospect; all those early moments, when she'd tried to fight them off and run to the defenses of her home and lover, had begun to blur in her mind.
It was starting to look like a posibility in her mind--that they'd decided to take no chances with her. After they had her at their mercy, her memories were hazy, up until she'd been put in the cell, her ankles held firmly by chafing rings of metal attached by a short chain to the wall. She'd very nearly begun to cry in despair when she dimly realized what was happening and where she was; in the dark, with no control over anything, it had seemed like the most natural response.
...But that wasn't how she behaved normally--not now. She'd survived worse than this and hadn't wept at the time. Drugs, she finally decided. You don't really act the way you usually do if you've been drugged.
In any case, she was starting to feel more lucid now than she had before, which was both good and bad. Being able to think more clearly helped; feeling more and more strongly the sharp pains in her skull and torso did not.
"All right?" she murmured, turning her head towards the woman who sat next to her despite the fact that she could barely see Valerie's outline in the dark. She wasn't--none of them were--but Evey had needed to say something, and wanted to hear Valerie reply.

The girl moved closer to the bars, closer to the human touch, the kindness, on the other side. She stretched her hand out to the vague shadow of Valerie in the adjacent cell. She wanted to curl up in her lap and cry and cry until she fell asleep. She wanted light, freedom, warmth.
She wanted to go home.
