::Reclining on the couch with one arm behind his head, his healthy hand holding a book open. He isn't paying much attention to it, though.::

*Sits on the kitchen counter. Actually fully dressed for once with minimal skin showing, feet dangling with his ankles crossed. Currently takes his time peeling an orange. Eventually glances at Kyou after a few minutes*

Is that a good book?

Kind of. ::Turns to the back cover for a moment, glancing at the summary.:: I just began reading it the other night. It's hard to tell.

*Nods absently, not really paying attention to the words. Mainly concentrating on Kyou's tone of voice, as he's preoccupied with his fruit*

Do you read a lot?

Yeah. I usually like to write, though. ::Somewhat baffled by Aubrey's behavior, though it did seem that there was a curse today. Kyou doesn't bother asking. Instead...::

What about you?

*Looks up at the questioning tone, mind automatically backtracking to pick up the actual question. Shrugs, looking down again to set aside the peeled skin of the orange next to him*

Mmm. I don't read a lot. I was banned from the libraries and other public spots back home.

... ::Wonders what kind of world Aubrey's from, though it isn't for the first time.::

There's a library here, in the City, you know. ::closes his book and shifts on the couch, so he can glance to Aubrey.:: I could show you.

*Another absent nod, laying the last of the skin on the counter. Halfs the actual orange by pulling it apart*

It wouldn't bore you?

::Watches the way he peeled the orange; it's curious, for some reason.::

*Carefully strips off a slice of the orange, a faintly visible smile playing over his lips. A little more cheerful in his tone of voice*

As long as you keep me entertained, I won't.

*Takes a bite out of the orange slice in a slightly exaggerated way, intent on savouring like it would be his last orange ever*

Well I know enough by now that you like being entertained. ::It's amusing to see Aubrey this way (whatever "this" was), but rather nice.::

....And you really do love those. ::resting his head on folded arms, smiling a little. Remembers what Aubrey once said about the orange, and fruit in general.:: What else do you like?

*Looks at Kyou as he swallows the pulp of fruit. A half-smile, as he pops the other half of the slice into his mouth. Through some chewing*

I tried watermelon the other day~. It was pretty good. Lots of juice stuff.

Yeah, those are pretty messy at times.

::Watches him for just a moment or so before commenting back on the orange:: Fruit is pretty expensive where I grew up, too.

*Currently in the middle of his second slice, which he slowly chews upon Kyou's words. Lifting a shoulder in a half shrug. Smiles at Kyou though*

At least you had fruit. Where I'm from, they're pretty much non-existent. *In an uncomfortable tone* If I wanted to buy just -one- orange, that's probably a week's worth of work.

::Listens quietly, and almost doesn't know what to respond with. The room suddenly feels heavy, and Kyou glances to the side.::

I- ...::changes his question:: You must like the City in that respect then, right? Easily accessable fruit and other food? ::offers a small smile::

Yeah, it's better than where I'm from. *Stares his orange for a moment, suddenly wondering how his family is doing back home while he's enjoying a commodity so rare on his world*

*Almost embarrassed* But sometimes I miss home. Do you?

I think it's only natural.

And yeah, I- ::thoughts drift back to the other night, the nightmares of his sister. He rests his head on his arms again.:: ... I do.

*Watches Kyou curiously, nibbling slowly on another slice*

You said you had a twin, right? What's she like? *A small smile* She's probably nicer than you, right?

::His eyes widen for a brief moment; half surprised, half wondering, and a tad irked by the "nicer" comment, even though it's true in a way.:: Hailey, yeah...

She's... ::not here, Kyou thinks. He shifts again to stretch out on the couch:: Maybe she is nicer, I guess... ::He stares up to the ceiling.:: She and I are different; opposites, maybe. She's my best friend, though.

*Laughs a little, taking the orange out of his mouth to speak*

Best friend? *Looking rather amused* Sister is the strongest word to use for someone that important to you~.

*Glances back down at his orange, a bit wistful* It must be nice... to have someone like that.

::smiles a little:: Having a family, blood related, doesn't always mean having friends. ::Knows that he's lucky, being as close to his sister as he is.:: I get what you're saying, though.

Mn. ::Thoughts linger on the day he left for California, before he glances back to Aubrey. His voice is a bit hesitant.:: Are you....close to anyone back home?

*Still wistful* It's nice to have one though, right?

*Wipes his chin with his sleeve when a bit of excess juice dribbles down his skin. A half-hearted shrug at the question, almost in a mumble*

Used to. He probably hates me now though.

::Murmurs:: Yeah...

::Feels a little warm; the air in the apartment is thick, and he remains quiet for several moments. It's not like he can console Aubrey.::

Ther- ::stops before he finishes, thinking again. Watches Aubrey quietly, before finding his words.:: Maybe talking would help. When we're all out of this City.

Exile wouldn't-- *Pauses. Knows exactly what he'd get if he ever got out; none of it involving a good amount of talking. Pushes that route of conversation aside*

That would be weird~. *Honest in his words, rather cheerful* I kind of like it here. It's so much better than where I'm from. I just wish everyone was here with me too~.

::Watches Aubrey as he speaks, taking in the expressions and tone, or lack thereof, and just moves on with the subject as well.::

I can't say I'd disagree. ::Smiles a bit.:: This place is just...different than where I'm from. I guess I'm thankful in that respect, to an extent. ::The City is just m,ore on the dangerous, and unpredictable side. That's all.::

*Hops off the counter and ventures a little closer, studying the fishtank/wall thing. Eventually glancing back at Kyou. Smiles a little more widely*

Really? This place is soooo much different to what I'm used to. *Absently pulls on his sweater as he speaks* It's a lot cleaner here. There's no police or Specials to bug me. But I guess that only makes it more dangerous here too...

::Several of the vibrantly colored fish scatter about within the tank. The addition to his aparetment was startling and weird at first, but Kyou grew to like it.::

::Nods in response, returning the smile.:: This city is two-sided, almost. At least... it is in one way. But... ::Sits up and shifts over, in case Aubrey wants to sit.:: It's nice that some of us citizens are enjoying it, to a point.

*Hesitates, but quickly concludes that he's just being an idiot for being wary of Kyou. Of all people. The half-vampire thing aside. Sits on the opposite end of the couch, curling up on it so that he faces Kyou. Blinks over his knees*

I haven't really seen all that much of this place yet... *Snickers* I know the bad side of this place well enough though. *Meaning Automatica and such, not his work, but doesn't bother clarifying*

There's darker places than the club. ::Not that Kyou's been to many of them; after being abducted, he plans not to seek any out, either.::

::Glances to him.:: I can show you around though, if you want...? I know I've been here long enough to qualify to do so. ::Gives a short laugh at the thought, still amazed at how time has flown.::

*A twinge of a smile at the corner of his mouth*

You don't have to, but I won't complain if you want to. Sometimes I need to do different... things anyway. *A slight frown* I'm not really good at exploring or anything. I usually get stuck in the same old placs.

::Smiles warmly:: I don't mind. It's not like I don't have the time or anything. ...what do you think you'd be interested in? This place has pretty much anything you could want.

*Absently rubs his lips with his fingers as he thinks about where he'd like to go*

Anywhere, I guess. I don't... really know where else to go. *A thoughtful frown* I really suck.

::Thinks for a bit.:: ....what would you consider to be fun? Besides the club.

*Eyes brighten after another moment of thinking. An excited glance at Kyou*

Anywhere where there's fruit and food~?

::Amused, though touched in a way. He laughs, smiling again.:: Cafe Juliet it is.

::Pauses before getting up suddenly, though not without a slight wince from his still-sore ankle.:: Hold on a minute...

*Blinks. Watches Kyou a touch nervously, though he knows it's probably stupid to feel that way*

Um. Kay...

::He returns a moment later, though hobbling a little, with a small plastic container.::

I told you I'd let you try them. So, go ahead. ::holds out the container of blackberries to Aubrey.::

*Sits up straighter, automatically reaching out to take the container. Sets it on his lap and looks inside. A genuine smile at Kyou. With an underlying enthusiasm*

Blackberries, right? Your favourite?

::Almost amused with the simple happiness, the surprise, but it's nice. It's welcome. Kyou isn't one to let up on his word.::

::He nods, smiling.:: Mnhm.
