"ATHRUN!" Several seconds of silence passed, and Cagalli found herself listening to her own booming voice ricochet against the walls. Tilting her head backwards, she gazed upward, and squinted at the large Gundam, its shiny crimson coat glistening underneath the lighting. Frustrated--her voice was becoming rather hoarse--the blonde skirted her way around onto the elevator, and slammed the green button, ignoring the sharp jolt of pain that ran along her fingers. Maybe she had hit it too hard.

The platform began to rise and soon enough, she found herself in front of Justice's cockpit. Cagalli reached out to knock, hesitated, reconsidered and withdrew her arm, cradling the length of it like a nervous child.

"...Athrun, open the door." More of a request than a command, her voice a little softer than before. Silence, again, ensued. Her patience was smeared thin, her brow furrowed in distraught. Scowling, Cagalli raised her voice, "Athrun! Open it! Now!"

...Again, nothing but the echo of her voice. And then, as expected, silence.

Aggravated, Cagalli kicked the Gundam, irritation making her brash. She stumbled backwards, hissing slightly as pain seared through her leg. Staggering backwards, she felt her balance on the platform waver, and backwards she went. She opened her mouth as she tumbled into the air, falling. A high-pitched scream tore itself from her throat, bright golden eyes wide with surprise and panic.

Athrun concentrated hard on the controls, doing his best to block out all sound of Cagalli's voice. He had expected this much from the girl; she always had been a stubborn one. When her voice took on a pleading tone, he steeled his will, glaring fiercely at the panel lit up before him. Surely she understood - this had to be done, Lacus had to be brought home... they all had to return home as soon as possible.

There followed a pause, before the cockpit shook slightly at Cagalli's venting. Of course-- Athrun's head snapped up at the sudden scream that reverberated through the walls of his seclusion. Did she-! Punching a button, the pilot flew out of the doors the minute they opened.

"CAGALLI!"

Wrapping his arms round the falling girl, he twisted in midair to ensure that he would take the impact of the fall.

All the breath was knocked out of him with one blow, limbs going numb as the shock vibrated through his body. Athrun had been prepared for the impact, but no amount of preparation could have taken away the pain all the same. Closing his eyes, he willed his muscles to relax under the sounds of Cagalli's heavy breathing.

Cagalli-!

He felt his arm slip off her waist- circulation hadn't returned just yet -as she rose up from his chest, and heard the waver in her voice as she whispered his name, softly, with so much fear. No sign of pain, that was good. Eyes flickering open, the Coordinator opened his mouth, pausing when no sound emerged. Clearing this throat, he tried a second time, ribs aching as he did so. "Ca... galli? Are you... all right?"

Athrun could feel the blood returning; it was like taking a fresh breath of oxygen after having submerged underwater for more than four minutes. Sensing Cagalli's expression, his gaze turned to the side as he felt his chest tighten - he was almost always the source of her tears. Emerald eyes flickered back to search the girl's face when he felt a trembling hand brush at his hair. Anger, of course, frustration... and so much relief.

"Ahh," he managed, "I-" Just as he had begun to push himself up with his elbows, pain shot through his right arm and he winced, face contorting in his valiant attempt to hide it. "-I'm fine."

At least Cagalli was all right, but-- he stopped in his struggle, frowning. If he hadn't caught her in time... "Just what were you thinking, pulling a dangerous stunt like that anyway? You could've died!"

The annoyed retort the pilot had expected, but the hug, he did not. Shoulders stiffening with surprise when he was pulled into the warm embrace, he found his mind to be blank of any words he could put forth.

It, really was his fault for causing so much worry. So much needless worry.

As Athrun allowed himself to sink comfortably into the familiarity of those enclosed arms, he buried his face into the junction between the lean neck and shoulder and released a soft sigh. "Sumanai..."
