Log; Ongoing
When; Average Joe Day, December 2nd
Rating; Pg-13 atm? Who knows what they'll get into
Characters; Fai [
wheet_woo] and Kurogane [
black_ginryuu]
Summary; Finding himself to be powerless a little too late, Fai topples off the roof on his way to the gardens. Needless to say, he's a little banged up (though better off than most since he's all spry like that). Kurogane, after dragging that fact out of him, shows up to "rescue" him.
Log;
Fai had gotten into a lot of trouble during his life time, but certainly nothing like this. He had fought battles, fended off wild beasts with wind magic--he'd even bested a Kurogane countless times in enjoyable games like Say Kuro-chan Five Times Fast (Mokona won) or other such delights. But as for the experience of falling off a roof like a complete clutz... Well, Fai could happily add that to his repertoire.
Although it wasn't exactly all good, considering his entire body hurt. He was pretty sure he hit his head hard and the leafless tree that had slowed his fall had taken several pieces with him. Even still, Fai let his mind wander, whistling softly to himself. His enjoyment would surely be cut short, as the scary ninja who was coming to get him has a bark much harsher than any tree.

Then again, it did gratify him to know that Fai really was starting to use his magic more often, if only in small doses, and that meant that he was loosening up regarding whatever it was that had been holding him back before. It didn't answer any real questions, but it was optimistic, at least.
Reaching the bottom floor, Kurogane stormed out of the building and rounded a few corners until he reached the part of the gardens that stretched under their apartment's balcony. And there was the idiot. A surprising amount of fear akin to that he felt whenever the rush of an assassination thwarted was over and he realized how close to death the Princess may have come. To think that in this short span of time Fai had reached that same level of importance in Kurogane's heart...
Pushing that philosophical question to the side, Kurogane focused on action first, as was his wont in such situations, and bent down into a crouch by Fai's side.
"Hey, you."

Despite the smile, and he relative easy in Kurogane's presence, something stirred again in the back of his mind. It had been bothering him for a little while now, a nagging sense of nervousness that he wasnt accustomed to. He found himself spending more time than he should thinking over the future. He could not control fate, he could only do his best at the moment at hand. And yet.. he couldn't keep thinking there was something unpleasant on the horizon.
But now was not the time to think about it. Kurogane would notice, and he was past the point of being able to hide much from him. The flood gates had been open, and it would take quite a bit to close them again this time.
"Or are you really a ninja anymore? 'Cause if you can't do ninja like things, then.."

Kneeling on the grass, his hands moved automatically over Fai's hands, wrists, arms; checking for breaks or twists with a soldier's efficiency.
"What part of you landed first? Tell me when it hurts."
no subject
"I think I sprained some things, but no broken bones, Kuro-chu!" He really was glad that the ninja came, feeling quite warm at the look in his eyes. They had changed a lot since that first meeting in Yuuko-san's courtyard, and Fai could feel it well. And they would keep changing as the days went on.

"Humph," he grumbled, perhaps blushing slightly. "Well then if that's it than you can walk yourself."
Standing up and turning with his eyes shut he prepared to walk away as he always did.
no subject
Smiling up at him, Fai let himself flop helplessly along the ground. He could walk fine, probably, and normally would have, but Kurogane had come all the way out here, so Fai decided to play the game in order to keep him there. He was far more likely to compromise now. Besides, it was always fun being carried around by a grumbling ninja.
no subject
"Lazyass," he rumbled, turning and bending over nevertheless to haul him over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. He had no doubt that Fai had hurt himself somewhere, but he was loath to be seen carrying him around like a princess.
no subject
"Nenene, Kuro-rin~!" he purred, struggling to turn around while still being held. "If you weren't a ninja, what would you think you'd do instead?"
no subject
"I've always been a ninja. My father was a swordsman, and his father before him, and his father before him. In Nippon you're either a farmer, a ninja, or a merchant."
no subject
Tapping his finger to his chin, Fai thought long and hard over it. What would Kuro-tan be good at? "I think you would make a very good teacher! Since you are so good at yelling~"
no subject
After another bout of silence as Kurogane worked his way up the stairs with the mage over his shoulder, he asked: "What would you do, if you weren't an idiot mage?"
no subject
"I'd probably be dead~"
no subject
Kurogane's steps barely faltered as he registered first the shock that Fai had taken a question of his seriously, and second that he felt that he would honestly be dead if he hadn't come out the way he was.
"I don't believe that," he disagreed quietly. "There must have been some point in your life that you could have done differently."
no subject
Fai hummed quietly to himself, pointedly ignoring the undercurrent of anger in Kurogane's voice. He would probably throw him back down the stairs if he got too angry, but that would undo all his hard work. "Besides~ Some good things came out of it.."
no subject
No, he wouldn't let it go. Fai must have brought it up hoping that he would dig towards it, knowing that he would. Even if he hadn't done it consciously...
no subject
"The reason I found out I was a mage, and the reason those around me found out. And the reason everything else in my life happened."
no subject
"Was it bad?"
Then again, he wasn't one for subtleties himself. He could sympathize with bad situations of relevation: when the battle-madness had taken him he had not left much behind. To think that a girl so very small had calmed that raging beast inside...
no subject
He didn't really want to talk about it. It was ancient history, something long ago that he couldn't change. Didn't want to change, in some ways. But only sometimes did he think that way. Only sometimes could he pretend the good outweighed the bad. "I can think of only one thing that would be more terrifying.."
no subject
A good pot of tea would make everything better. Surely.
no subject
What was more, he didn't like the feeling of being without his magic. Part of him enjoyed not having to worry about anything, but he couldn't sense energies or anything like that. It was a little like being in a dark room.
"Although~ Maybe the darkness isn't so bad.." he murmured.
no subject
"What did you say?" he asked, thrusting the mug in the prone man's direction.
no subject
"Good tea.."
no subject
"Are you sure you didn't land on your head or your stomach?" he asked again, more quietly. He knew the dangers of internal bleeding, even if he didn't know what to do about them. There were enough medicine personnel in this city to service a full-sized army; it shouldn't be hard to find someone willing to help.
no subject
"Why? Are you worried, Kuro-chan?" Downing the rest of his tea, he shifted about on the couch, trying to find a comfortable position. "What a good hero."
no subject
no subject
Smiling sweetly up at him, Fai poked him in the thigh. "What, its not like you've never falling off something.."
no subject
A drink of tea, a comfortable silence.
"What have I fallen off of?" he grumbled good-naturedly, leaning back and stretching his arms over the top of the couch. Fai was so vulnerable-looking and sweet, lying there, despite the visible bruises and scrapes. It brought a blush to his cheeks when he caught himself looking too long.
no subject
Noticing the blush, Fai grinned broadly, feeling that warmth in his chest. Not the first time he felt the urge to throw away the walls that he held so close to him. But the urge passed and he poked Kurogane in the thigh. "Maybe you fell off the sun. You're red enough."
