Summary; Glinda decides that what the City needs is a good end-of-the-year gala.

It was almost 8 o'clock and everything had been set up.

Rangiku and Hotaru had strung up red, white, and silver streamers everywhere and several buffet tables were scattered throughout the area. Someone had suggested the hanging of mistletoe. Glinda didn’t know what its purpose was, but it was so pretty, so she had Rangiku add a few sprigs here and there.

Glinda had already briefed those who had volunteered to act as security. They were to enjoy the party, of course, but if they saw anyone causing trouble, it was up to them to handle it. The fireworks team had brought a lot of pyrotechnics. Glinda prayed they knew what they were doing. And Tayuya was off to the side, warming up.

Glinda had been shocked to see the young girl show up at all, let alone in a dress. As she had promised Glinda, the dress wasn't at all obscene. Glinda smoothed a non-existent wrinkle from her own dress and put a hand to her heart. She was nervous, but tried to reassure herself that everything would be perfect.

She checked the time. 8 o'clock. Time for everyone to arrive...

After the fireworks and before the final dance, Glinda stands on a platform at the front of the crowd. Using a holographic projector set up by Cobray, she makes an announcement to the crowd...

Fellow Citizens... I wanted to thank you all for being here. This has been one of the best nights of my life, and I hope each of you can say the same. It was a lot of work to plan this, but I can't take all the credit. This place is so beautiful thanks to Rangiku and Hotaru. Thank you to Sanji and everyone else who worked so hard on the buffet. I'm sure everyone agrees it was all delicious! To my security team, you did wonderfully. Everything went off without a hitch, thanks to you. Shizune, the gift exchange was wonderfully done. Tayuya, the music was beautiful, and so are you. It warms my heart to see you dressed like a lady. And it's nice to see you use that flute for something other than making threats. Thanks also to the pyrotechnics team. I'm glad you knew what you were doing. If I forgot anyone, I'm sorry. But know I'm grateful for all you've done!

Well, the hour is late, and we only have time for one last dance. But though this is the end of the night, don’t think this is the end of the holiday festivities. Motoko and I have a concert in the works for later this month. Anyone who would like to audition should see Motoko or myself to sign up. Tayuya, if you will...

A note; Glinda's announcement comes just after the fireworks and just before the final dance... so sometime after midnight. Reference to it whenever you want. Thanks to Cobray-mun for that idea. Also, it is not necessary to interact in this thread. Start your own in your journals, just like with the snowball fight if you’d like. Also, it is also not necessary to interact with Glinda if you don’t want to. However, if you do want to, this is the best place, as I won’t be starting my own thread in her journal.

I can't guarantee I'll be home all day. Today is the school band concert and I promised a friend I’d go. He bowed deeply in front of her.

"Nice of you to come to the party."

John had stated his stance on attending these sorts of functions well enough on the terminal, but tonight he would not serve as the perspective vortex, breaking wine glasses and summoned angels and all. This wasn't a gathering of magic prats for one, so any sort of mischief that tumbled in the magus' head would be of a harmless nature but his definition of harmless was another matter entirely. Something other than spiking the punch.

Besides, right now? Elle was gorgeous. He grinned as she gave Cori's ass some of her appreciation. Cori was sharp himself.

"Lovely," he added, groomed in a way harking back to the Houma glory days: Impeccable and not a hair out of place. Two decades later he could still feign his youth, but he was a magician after all.

Elle beamed further, being bowed to was something that didn't come often. "Nice to have a party waiting," she replied to the homunculus. "I dig the outfit. I don't think I've see you around before."

She stepped closer to him, glad that she learned to master the heels fast.

The hell?? He quirked a brow again as she smacked his ass goodbye. Well any way to show some appreciation around here, Cori smirked as Elle slipped away. He noted Greed again behind his black shades then the One Eyed Snake's dress, what weaponry could she hide under that number anyway? Though no doubt that'd serve a better reason for a pat down.

"That was fast," he said to John discreetly.

"Name's Greed, darlin'. I've seen you in passing, but we never talked at length. You look like my favorite combination, tough and sexy."

He tucked a hand under his chin and looked her over, whistling in appreciation.

"So, what brings you here? Just felt like havin' a good time?"

"Greed, eh? Interesting name. I'm Elle. Yeah, now that you mention it you've been about." Heh, tough and sexy? Does he have any idea, she wondered idly.

"I felt like having a nice night out. Maybe meet and greet. Looks like I'm on the right track."

"So darlin'," he said, sidling up to her and leaning against a banister, "Would you care for an escort during your night out? I know how to show a lady a good time."

"Sounds like a plan. And being escorted no less, I'm liking this. I'm liking this a lot."

"I aim to please, shall we check out the bar area?"

"Most assuredly. You're speaking my language."

Was this the guy that Cori had alluded to?

"Tell me about it," replied John, watching the scene. It was nice, being in the background again. Felt as if he were always meant for it.

"Looks like it's just you and me now," he feigned wiping away a tear, "where to."

John cocked an eyebrow. Looks like the two could do without them indeed.

"I 'eard Scarab was coming."

All according to plan really, so far that is.

"Same," said Cori, a little more subdued when he mentioned her.

John glanced over a Cori, studying him a bit in thought.

"Tell you what, mate: Sure I've told you at some point or another that I have connections, contacts, right? Used to have a lot. Only so many you can use before they wisen up or wind up dead. 'Pose it wouldn't hurt to break the cycle for once. What do you say?"

"It's a good thought," he said to John with a single nod. Good to break the cycle, surely, but as far as Cori was concerned Scarab was out because Master let her. Short leash and all that, but he wouldn't let the thought spoil the mood. "You owe her a dance, don't you," the nightmare smirked.

"Not a bad idea." Constantine was still troubled by the Silent Hill ordeal, but getting involved in the matter himself, whether on two legs or four, was not something he was going to do again in the near future.

"There's a dance with my name on it too..." whispered the nightmare as he sidled closer to the magus and placed a hand on his blue-suited shoulder. Of course, he pointed his finger at the ginger-haired Rangiku socializing in her most exquisite robes.
