Log; Ongoing
When; Sunday, October the 10th
Rating;Pretty sure it’ll stay around PG, but with this crowd, who knows?
Characters; EVERYONE
Summary; Glinda decides that what the City needs is a good end-of-the-year gala.
Log;
It was almost 8 o'clock and everything had been set up.
Rangiku and Hotaru had strung up red, white, and silver streamers everywhere and several buffet tables were scattered throughout the area. Someone had suggested the hanging of mistletoe. Glinda didn’t know what its purpose was, but it was so pretty, so she had Rangiku add a few sprigs here and there.
Glinda had already briefed those who had volunteered to act as security. They were to enjoy the party, of course, but if they saw anyone causing trouble, it was up to them to handle it. The fireworks team had brought a lot of pyrotechnics. Glinda prayed they knew what they were doing. And Tayuya was off to the side, warming up.
Glinda had been shocked to see the young girl show up at all, let alone in a dress. As she had promised Glinda, the dress wasn't at all obscene. Glinda smoothed a non-existent wrinkle from her own dress and put a hand to her heart. She was nervous, but tried to reassure herself that everything would be perfect.
She checked the time. 8 o'clock. Time for everyone to arrive...
After the fireworks and before the final dance, Glinda stands on a platform at the front of the crowd. Using a holographic projector set up by Cobray, she makes an announcement to the crowd...
Fellow Citizens... I wanted to thank you all for being here. This has been one of the best nights of my life, and I hope each of you can say the same. It was a lot of work to plan this, but I can't take all the credit. This place is so beautiful thanks to Rangiku and Hotaru. Thank you to Sanji and everyone else who worked so hard on the buffet. I'm sure everyone agrees it was all delicious! To my security team, you did wonderfully. Everything went off without a hitch, thanks to you. Shizune, the gift exchange was wonderfully done. Tayuya, the music was beautiful, and so are you. It warms my heart to see you dressed like a lady. And it's nice to see you use that flute for something other than making threats. Thanks also to the pyrotechnics team. I'm glad you knew what you were doing. If I forgot anyone, I'm sorry. But know I'm grateful for all you've done!
Well, the hour is late, and we only have time for one last dance. But though this is the end of the night, don’t think this is the end of the holiday festivities. Motoko and I have a concert in the works for later this month. Anyone who would like to audition should see Motoko or myself to sign up. Tayuya, if you will...
{ooc: Log is open, everyone GO!~ I hope you all fun. My thanks go out to Shizune-mun for coming up with the gift exchange, as well as setting it up. ♥ to you!
A note; Glinda's announcement comes just after the fireworks and just before the final dance... so sometime after midnight. Reference to it whenever you want. Thanks to Cobray-mun for that idea. Also, it is not necessary to interact in this thread. Start your own in your journals, just like with the snowball fight if you’d like. Also, it is also not necessary to interact with Glinda if you don’t want to. However, if you do want to, this is the best place, as I won’t be starting my own thread in her journal.
I can't guarantee I'll be home all day. Today is the school band concert and I promised a friend I’d go. But, if anyone needs me, my AIM is christinemasque and my email is phantom.masque98@gmail.com . I believe I might be able to answer email through my cell phone, so if it's urgent, that's the best way to reach me. But, I don't think any problems should arise. *crosses fingers* See you all at the party!~
Oh, and there will be more info on the aforementioned concert later in Poly-Extra}

She laughed a little at her friend's next words. "Sorry to say I left my man-beating-stick at home today. I've just been using it so often, you know, felt it deserved the night off."
no subject
"Well, we'll all defend your honour if the need arises. I'd be happy to pummel the offender with one of my shoes." Evey couldn't help but add a small laugh as punctuation; with the black stiletto heels she was currently wearing, that could be a rather violent sight. "Have you been enjoying yourself?"
no subject
"You're my knight in shining armour. An elegant, dress-shaped suit of armour," she glanced down at the shoes and widened her eyes in mock fear. "Those are deadly weapons, how did you get them past security? And yes," she smiled, "it's been... a lot nicer than I expected, actually. I think they make these social events sound overly complex. How about you? Danced with... certain other people yet?"
no subject
"Deadly, indeed--especially to my feet, once the evening's over." It had been a while since she'd worn heels of any sort; she wore flats almost all the time here, and even back in London, she'd rarely needed to put on heels quite this dramatic. But adding a few inches to her stature this evening had seemed like a good choice--and (perhaps it was a holdover from a childhood of playing dress-up) heels always made events seem more elegant to her.
"I'm glad you're having a nice time," Evey added. "So am I--and I did. I've been promised another dance later on if I don't look too tired." Her expression grew a bit more wicked as she asked, "And you? Has anyone convinced you to try a waltz yet?"
no subject
"You look the picture of health really," Kitty reassured her. In truth, Evey really did look a lot better. You'd never think the woman had recently been attacked by parasitic slugs and almost buried alive underground, but that was the City for you. "Convinced me?" She attempted to remain oblivious. Probably failed at it too. "It'd take some serious powers of convincing to get me on the dance floor."
no subject
"Yes, convince you," she answered, laughing a bit at Kitty's attempt at innocence on the subject. "I can't believe that you're as horrible a dancer as you claim. Besides...I'm sure there's someone who could persuade you to give it a try."
no subject
Should she feign indifference? Incredulity? Oh, decisions, decisions. "A certain other person, you mean?" She chuckled weakly, "I have been mercifully released from Nathaniel asking me to dance as of yet. I'm hoping we can both get far too drunk for it to be possible! A party's not a party if there isn't a slightly tipsy couple collapsed at the back."
no subject
It wasn't a feeling she felt she could sum up in a few words, so Evey simply said, "I'm sure you're right, Kitty."
Her expression grew far less serious as Kitty answered her teasing. "The two of you would look nothing short of lovely on the dance floor, you know--sober or not." Her smile softening from the teasing grin she'd just worn, she continued, "Honestly, dancing's made out to be as complicated as social events, but it's not as hard as it looks. You really should give it a go before you get completely smashed--I think you might enjoy it."
no subject
Kitty had the good humour to grin back at Evey; this sort of teasing had become so common in the last month or so that... well, she believed the phrase was something along the lines of joining those you couldn't beat. "I'm sure we'd positively sweep any and all competition. Especially if we weren't sober."
Laughing softly under her breath she fidgeted briefly, raising her hands up to tuck her hair behind her ears. "I think I might... might try and give it a go, seeing as everyone seems to want me to. You sure I wouldn't enjoy it more if I was too drunk to form words?"
no subject
She gave her friend a grin. "I can't promise you I'm right, of course--the last time I was that drunk, I ended up passing out on the kitchen floor. There wasn't any dancing involved, either--though there were knives." A slight flush pinked her cheeks as she remembered what else that day had entailed. "But that's not a story that can be told in public," she summed up quickly.
"Anyway, if you're drunk, you won't be able to enjoy Nathaniel's presence. You'll be too busy trying to stand up straight."
no subject
Kitty raised both her eyebrows high for a moment when Evey next spoke and the blush began to creep onto her face. "Passing out. Knives. Sounds very, err, exciting. Exciting stuff." She chortled as the woman quickly stopped what had promised to be a very interesting story. "I'll ask you again later, then."
"I'm sure I could muddle through! Besides, if we couldn't stand up together, we could always fall over together on top of each other." The words had barely come out before she realised what she'd said, and it became her turn to blush a little as she hastily added, "Not like that, I mean, err... yes."
no subject
"Mmm--you're very lucky that V appears to be unattended, or I might take advantage of this moment to tease you," she joked, glancing over across a decently sized group of people at her husband, whose gaze was a feeling she could never shake when it was upon her. He raised her glass to her in acknowledgement--the difficulties of drinking while wearing the mask meant that he didn't have his own champagne flute--and she smiled in return.
"It was lovely to see you, Kitty--good luck with the dancing."
((OOC: Finals + AR = missing words and only noticing an hour and a half later or so. ^^;;; Désolée!))

He gave Kitty a very courtly bow and straightened to slip an arm around Evey's waist.
" I wondered where you had gotten off to, love." he said to Evey, the mask tilted to the side in a visual cue that alluded to the smile he wore beneath Fawkes' grinning visage.
no subject
"You were a bit busy dancing with Valerie, and Ruth was at the buffet," she answered, dark eyes sparkling with some amusement. "I thought I might go and socialize, rather than sit alone at a table."
no subject
"Terribly sorry for stealing your wife away and all that." She grinned as she watched the couple, before commenting in something of a stage whisper, "I think she's very subtly trying to hint she'd like another dance, you know."
