Summary; Meeting up after three months. And some angst. But it’s a Subaru and a Kamui.
Log;
Kamui was, in a word, freaking at the moment. Subaru was back; the Subaru that was his age, the one he'd come to love, was back. It... he needed this so badly. To be close to the other boy again, especially after everything that had happened since he'd left. Subaru, of course, didn't have to know about any of that, even though Kamui being... dead... would be fairly obvious if they got close. Not feeling a heartbeat in another person wasn't exactly unnoticeable. He just hoped Subaru wouldn't be upset with him.

First, though... he had to find Subaru, and while he could vaguely feel his presence, it wasn't going to be an easy task. Still, he would search forever if he had to. All over the city.

Having returned to the city had brought on a mixture of thoughts and feelings within him, and Subaru would have to confess that he did not understand why he had returned to this place, or by what means. And while he was still trying to sort all of that out he had communicated with Kamui again, knowing that it had been quite some time that he'd been absent. Whether time passed in the same way within the city as without, he didn't know, but either way it had seemed such a long while.

Long enough that finding his way around the place was certainly a clumsy affair, more intent on spotting the other boy than watching where he was going and having to apologize quite often as a result. It might be difficult figuring out where one person was amongst all the people that lived here, however he was going to try. Though... it seemed such resolve was not needed when he saw Kamui stalking along a short distance away.

For a few moments he debated, awkward without known reason before deciding that calling the other was the best means of getting his attention, though he didn't like shouting. "Kamui-sa..." No, not quite right. "Kamui!"

At that, Kamui froze; that voice all too familiar. "Subaru..." he whispered to himself, turning toward the source of the voice, and then just staring when his eyes found the other. That moment didn't last long; however: Kamui finding himself running toward the other without even knowing he'd moved. He was just... overwhelmed with emotions at the moment, and that definitely showed when his arms went around Subaru, practically tackling him, his lips briefly finding the other's. Kamui was crying as well, now burrowing his face in the other's shoulders, shaking slightly. "Subaru... Subaru... I missed you so much! You have no idea!"

The reaction to his salutation hadn't exactly been what Subaru might've expected, had he the mind to expect anything specific. Seeing Kamui break into a run didn't compare too much to nearly being floored and likely the brief kiss would've done that if he wasn't being clung to for dear life. For a few moments he could only blink and hope he didn't topple over somehow and hoping he wasn't blushing like mad as was his tendency. Those thoughts were quickly replaced by what was said, and the fact that Kamui was apparently crying. "I'm... I'm sorry." Hesitant at first he got himself to put his arms around the other boy, wishing his absence hadn't been cause for tears.

Kamui's body relaxed a little when he felt the other's arms go around him, even though he knew Subaru was hesitating. He wasn't surprised, though; it was probably quite the shock to come back to someone practically bowling you over. "N-no... it wasn't your fault... I just..." he whimpered, squeezing Subaru gently. After a moment, he finally pulled away, laughing nervously, "S-sorry..."

Then it dawned on him that Subaru might have felt his lack of heartbeat since they were so close, and he looked away, hoping that maybe Subaru had been too overwhelmed to notice. "Um..."

Having been released from a rather bewildering embrace, Subaru could only imagine what was going to happen when he encountered Hokuto again. Somehow he was sure that one was going to include a lecture just for the occasion. Though he would suppose as much was deserved, letting his arms fall back to his sides again. He had vanished without notice, even if he wasn't entirely sure just why. Much less how he was able to get back to this place at all. A great number of things he didn't understand and Kamui's behavior certainly added to the list.

If he was lucky he hadn't worried Hokuto too much. "I don't think you did anything to apologize over..." Subaru ventured after a moment, as usual finding no fault in others. Having been preoccupied by the emotional response he hadn't made much more than immediate observations.

Kamui blinked, then smiled a little, wiping away tears. "Ah, I ... don't mean to freak you out, and you look, well, freaked out. So I'm sorry for that." He wrapped his arms around himself, looking over Subaru as if inspecting to make sure he was really there and in good health. "It's just... these last few months... I've really missed you. I was so broken up when you left, but..." The violet-eyed boy took one of the other's hands, holding it and playing at the glove covering it, "I know it's not your fault, and all that matters to me is you're back, and... I'll shut up now."

"Ah... That's really..." Subaru couldn't really think of a time when he'd wanted another person to shut up for whatever reason and it wasn't the sort of sentiment that he would direct at Kamui. He didn't see how it would be a matter if disinterest, knowing how the other had been doing while he was away, however... most of what little he knew seemed to be negative. Although he'd no control over his vanishing act he'd not thought that it would have such an impact. "You don't have to. I've wondered how things were."

"That's..." Kamui looked away again, dropping Subaru's hand and wrapping his arms around himself once more. "Well, Hokuto has been well. Bored, I think, but well. And the curses have continued as always, but that's to be expected." A shrug. He... obviously wasn't going to talk about himself unless Subaru brought it up, and even then, there would be SEVERAL details he'd be leaving out. The other didn't need to know how damned stupid he'd been since he'd left.

The response served to remind Subaru that much like him, Kamui had a tendency to avoid speaking about himself. In this case that brought up some concern since the other boy had expressed things were not well with him for the past few months, however he was left between respecting the other's space and asking how he'd been. As one of two people Subaru had been concerned about while he was gone, he did want to know why things were so bad during that span of time. After a while he decided that at the least he could ask and whatever was supplied in answer was fine by him. "You appear to be exercising old habits. So far you haven't said how you were."

The response was a deep breath, Kamui definitely avoiding Subaru's gaze now. "Not... well. Because I am a horrible person, and I just... lost everything. Lost my reasons for existing." One of his hands gripped his shirt, over his heart. "And because of that, I made a bunch of stupid choices, and recently... it just... Fuuma and I got in a fight, and he..." A shake of his head. Subaru didn't need to know about his lack of being alive. "Nothing."

Clearly there was something that the other boy didn't want to talk about, and Subaru wouldn't prioritize his concerns over another's feelings. If Kamui didn't want to say anything else then it wasn't his place to press the matter, much as he wondered what had ended up happening with that Fuuma fellow. He could not claim any fond memory of him. Deciding not to address the incomplete statement he refocused attention on what else was said. "I don't think you are a horrible person."

Kamui shook his head, "I am. I can only cause others misery. I deserve.... the bad things that happen to me." He was going to say he deserves to be killed, but it was a little late for that, now wasn't it? "I've made the older you here unhappy because of my stupid choices and emotions." Another sigh, his expression becoming very sad. "I only make him worry and hurt. The only one... who doesn't seem to be phased by my stupidity... is Fuuma, and he only uses me for se..." And now he was blushing, terribly embarrassed by what he almost said. Wow. Kamui was still a virgin when Subaru had left, but now, thanks to Fuuma...

Subaru did not want to assume, hated assuming, but his mind was drawing certain conclusions regardless of will. And what he came up with was of course troubling. Kamui had almost said it, and more than assuming he hated the fact that it was a fairly safe assumption. It made him want to ask why but he couldn't make himself do that, couldn't ask for clarification. That was not his business. If there was one thing Subaru had found it in himself to do well it would be reflecting nothing of troubled thoughts, and so he forced himself to mask whatever reaction he had to these things, rather than burden anyone else with his subjective view. "That... It's still not my perception."

"You're just..." his hand carefully gripped Subaru's again, seeming to crave the contact, "too kind to me." Kamui's other hand joined his first, almost cupping Subaru's like some precious object. "But I'm glad for that. Maybe you just don't see how bad I am... because I could never do anything to you. I want to protect you, still." Finally, he looked up, into the other's eyes. "I know that's weird, but it's true. Now that you're back, I have someone to protect again." A small, embarrassed smile arose on his face. "Not that I'm saying you can't look after yourself, but... um..."

"Hard to explain, I'd suppose." Another item to add to that ever growing list of things for which Subaru would fault himself. Making the connection between Kamui's words regarding having no one to protect and how he'd taken that along with the last few things just said it seemed rather logical that he hold himself responsible. Had he not vanished for one reason or another perhaps things would not have happened as they had. He couldn't see why it was him that needed protecting even if it was acknowledged that he could be self-reliant, but Subaru couldn't read minds. If somehow he'd become someone's purpose it was even worse that he'd left this place even if it wasn't by will.

Kamui tilted his head a little, watching Subaru as if he was considering something. "Do you... wish for me to leave you alone? You're already stressed enough without me adding to it." He withdrew all contact, taking a step away. "And I... I'm sure you need to go see Hokuto and everything, so..."

And then it dawned on him, his words freezing, his body jolting as he looked away again: damn it, Hokuto knew he was dead. And she was NOT the type to hold her tongue, either, and Kamui... didn't want Subaru to hear about it secondhand. "Hey, I... I need to tell you something..."

Subaru was about to state that he would not dismiss the other boy like that and couldn't view him as any form of inconvenience but before he could do that the subject had changed. This conversation seemed to be full of blanks and holes. Perhaps there were just that many things that had changed while he was gone.

"...Is something the matter?" Aside the fact that it seemed Subaru's absence had done more damage than he'd have ever speculated. Which certainly seemed rather bad already.

"Um... well, I know that it doesn't really effect you or anything, and it doesn't matter, but... I think I should be the one to tell you that..." He sighed in a frustrated manner, trying to think of a tactful way to put this. A hard thing, really, seeing as he failed at tact. "Well, you know how I said Fuuma and I got in a fight? Well, he..." nervously, Kamui rubbed his own arm, still not even glancing to the other, "he kinda... killed me. His hand went through my heart. I'm... dead..."

"How would that not matter?" Subaru found himself saying it before he could even catch himself, unfamiliar sense of anger rousing inside him, and he not wishing to express such an unpleasant side of his person. And why he felt like shooting something into bits he didn't think he wanted to know. It was wrong to take anger out on anything, and unsettling when he didn't entirely understand the nature of it. Still, Kamui had been killed... Didn't that trap people in this place? And that someone would do such a thing... he wasn't accustomed to being angry like that, even if he could internalize it.

The other merely blinked and then shrugged. "It... it just doesn't, I think. Why would it? Fuuma, he... actually, we accidentally killed each other at the same time. He's dead too." Kamui ran a hand through his hair, stopping to rub his temples. "And he's... reveling in it. He says it only shows that we're stuck together by fate. He seems to really think... that I belong to him now, especially since we're both stuck here. I... hate it. I don't like feeling like some possession of his that he claimed." He hid his eyes now in his hands, ashamed. "I don't want this... but... I can't seem to stop the things he takes from me. He's too strong." Another shake of his head now; he seemed to be doing a lot of that during this conversation. Probably a bad thing. "Sorry, I probably shouldn't have told you all of that."

"I think it matters." Subaru couldn't tell Kamui that it should matter to him since it was his own life, because of that very fact. Or, as the case would prove, his un-life. It was the same general concept; either way not his place to correct someone even when he found himself disagreeing. And so he stated opinion rather than arguing. He hadn't found himself as concerned about how he said things before he left and yet now it was a definite pattern. But time had passed and things had changed. Surely it wasn't right to behave as though he'd never gone especially in light of all the things his absence seemed to have caused. Being at fault for so much was more than defeating and that anger wasn't letting him be. Somehow he wished it would. There was no point in it.

"Then, that's your thing, but..." Yet another shake of his head. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have mentioned anything. Not that you wouldn't have found out later, but... still. I'm sorry. I must be making you upset already." The look he finally gave the other was upset, regretting, well, everything. For being the way he was. "I... I just want things to go back to the way they were, or... at least kinda like that. Things have changed with Fuuma, but with you around again... I feel better." He dared to hug Subaru again, but this time it was soft, almost timid. "Being around you always made me happy, no matter what happened. Would... would it be okay if I stuck around you still? Or..." once again, he buried his face in Subaru's shoulder, "would you prefer not to be around me, now that you know everything?" Or, at least, near everything.

He could only hope that at a later time, these things might make better sense to him. At present the fact that he couldn't quell some internal anger was very unsettling, unaccustomed to having so little control over a negative emotion like that. And he wasn't quite sure why it was that he'd be so unsettled when it was not his place. Though often he felt concern on behalf of others and was loathe to stand by when there was any form of injustice this reaction wasn't normal for him. Not entirely. However he didn't have the time to be speculating about that. When he'd time to himself he could try to sort out these responses, why it was that he was so angry. Finding Kamui was worrying again he held the other boy for whatever comfort it might offer, feeling more at fault as moments passed. "You're still you. Why would I ever mind having you around? That's silly."

Kamui relaxed once more into the other's arms, his words reassuring him that no, Subaru wasn't about to abandon him. He shouldn't have been surprised, really, since Subaru was of the extremely loyal sort, but... it still felt nice. "Are you sure of that?" he asked softly, nuzzling a little with a small yawn. Okay, maybe he was getting too relaxed. He hadn't really slept right, after all, since the other had left.

"I try to say what I mean." Subaru stated in response. He saw no reason to abandon a friend like that, especially someone that had always seemed so kind in his perception. And the fact that he'd caused distress amongst other things already did not encourage the idea of leaving the other boy on his own. Aside the fact that he didn't deem it fair at all do so something like that.

"Mm." He finally pulled back, if only so he wouldn't fall asleep on the other. "That's true." He was quiet for a moment, looking to the ground and blushing ever-so-slightly, "Um... while were you gone, did you miss me at all?" Kamui couldn't help but be curious. Yeah, he was sure that Subaru had missed Hokuto, and probably even Seishirou (oh, how he hated thinking that, too), but... he wasn't sure if he'd missed him...

Somehow being asked something like that was almost insulting, but Subaru didn't get insulted easily by much of anything. And it wasn't as though he could expect someone else to know his thoughts. He did have to wonder how he could be expected not to miss someone he'd spent so much time with before he'd left the city. "Of course I did." Kamui was one of the few good friends he'd gotten to know here. Likely the one he spent the most time with aside his sister.

Kamui looked up almost shyly, smiling a little. Oh, so he had missed him. That... made him rather happy, really; to know Subaru really did care enough to miss him. Of course, he knew that Hokuto had said that Subaru liked him, but... well, Hokuto was a little weird anyway. "What..." he fidgeted a little, the change of topic awkward, but he felt it best to do it anyway, "what were you doing while you were gone, anyway?"

What had he done while he was gone? Subaru could think of a fair number of things he did during that span of time. It had been a bit lengthy, those last few months, if not entirely disorienting. "At first I was trying to figure out what had happened, why I was back home. I had to pick up work again, but I... Things didn't seem normal." He couldn't shake the feeling that he wasn't where he was supposed to be, silly as it was.

"Not normal?" And now Kamui was concerned again, afraid of what could have happened while Subaru was alone. Not that Subaru wouldn't be use to his mood changes and worrying by now; he'd experienced those things quite a few times in the time they were together. "Were you sick or something? You were all by yourself, so maybe you weren't taking good enough care of yourself?" Ugh. He didn't mean to be so insulting. "N-not that you're not self-sufficient, but, I mean... you tend to forget meals, and..." And with that, he face-palmed.

Subaru hadn't meant that anything had seemed wrong, of course. And the last thing that he wanted was to make Kamui worry more than he seemed to have already. Causing others distress was never on his list of priorities. He liked making the other boy worry even less than he would have had it been someone else, save perhaps his sister. Usually she just gave him hell for it and moved on, but she took concerns differently than Kamui did. "I was fine. I'd meant that it seemed odd for me to be there when you and Hokuto-chan were still in this place."

Subaru had felt weird, abnormal, because of... him and Hokuto? Because they weren't there? Or was he just overanalyzing the other's words? Either way, he found himself blushing a little more, eyes slightly widened. "You... would you have been okay if we'd been there with you?" Kamui, of course, WOULD have liked to have been with him all this time. All the hell he'd been through would have been prevented then, and, of course, he adored being with the other teenager more than anything.

Since the absence of the people that he'd gotten closest to had been what he had identified in that time as the cause for feeling out of place, Subaru would suppose that having those people around would have made a difference. And he thought he had expressed something along those lines but if Kamui was asking him to clarify he clearly hadn't. "I think so. By myself I just... Something was lacking." Perhaps it sounded strange but he wasn't ever able to get himself used to the idea that while he wasn't in the city, the other two were.

Ah, Kamui's smile was surer now, for the first time in a while. "It's very good you're back, then. So you can feel normal again." And that's all that mattered, really... Subaru being happy with being back here with those who truly love and adore him. Even if he didn't know the extent of Kamui's true feelings quite yet. "I hope you never disappear again. Not unless you take me and Hokuto with you." A sure nod. "After all," he was teasing gently now, "who else am I supposed to share a bed with?"

"Well, I..." Subaru blinked a few times, blushing a bit but telling himself that he should not have found something odd in that last sentence. They had shared a bed before he left, and it helped Kamui to get some decent sleep. One would think that having a sister like Hokuto would make him better at identifying when he was being teased, but he wasn't. "I don't see how taking Hokuto-chan with me is conducive to you sleeping then."

A warm smile, Kamui somehow happy to even be seeing Subaru's cluelessness again. "I don't need her to sleep, but you need her to be happy, right? So if we left, we couldn't just leave her behind." Even though, honestly, Kamui could sometimes do without her loudness. And her trying to get him in skimpy clothes. "Mm..." he looked up, thinking for a moment, "I guess the string of thought only makes sense in my head..."

Considering the fact that Subaru did not like the idea of leaving either his sister or Kamui on their own in this place. The city had curses and madmen and a good number of things he did not feel right leaving people he cared for to deal with. "I'd rather not leave either of you." He decided he'd simply state it since he wasn't sure what else to say.

A nod. And then another change of subject. "Hey, when's the last time you ate?" He knew that Hokuto would never forgive him if he didn't make sure Subaru was fed right away, since it was him first running into the other boy. He had to take good care of him, just like she always did. "Gotta make sure you're eating as you should be, you know." Nevermind that Kamui hadn't been, his frame ever-so-slightly thinner in spots.

"I'm fine." Subaru never ate much but he had been sure to have some kind of meals. Certainly not three a day but he was doing better than skipping meals as frequently as he used to. Unaccustomed to having all that much he couldn't exactly impose a major change on himself. And without much cooking ability figuring out what he should have wasn't terribly convenient. If anything it looked like Kamui should have been more concerned with himself. He seemed a bit different.

"You sure? I could make you something back at my place, if you wanted. It wouldn't be a problem." Nevermind he couldn't even remember the last time he spent an actually night at his apartment, and thus didn't know what he had there. Edible stuff, for sure, but he didn't spend enough time there to go shopping and put things away; avoiding the place since, well, he wasn't SAFE. Fuuma had learned to pick his locks a little too quickly.

Of course Subaru would never be easily convinced that he was no trouble, and really he did not think he was in any dire need of a meal. His desire not to give cause for worry had seen to it that he at least remained fairly healthy, even if Hokuto wasn't there to worry over him or fuss. Somehow he didn't want to give reasons for it anyway. "I don't need anything. Please don't worry about it." The last thing he needed to do was generate more worry.

"Okay." Kamui nodded, and took another step away from his friend, looking back toward building four. "Um... you... should probably get to Hokuto. I can't imagine she'd be happy with knowing you're here, and not back with her right away." He scratched the back of his neck nervously, looking away. "I'll, um, go... somewhere. Leave you alone to go see her and all." Why would the siblings want to have him around during their reunion, anyway?

Although Kamui had come up with this idea of wandering off, Subaru did not get the feeling that he wanted to at all. Were it the case he would not have minded, as there might've been something more important for the other boy to be doing. Though, it did not seem the case. It was as though the other boy was interpreting himself as some form of inconvenience. Frowning in slight at the idea, he caught Kamui's hand before he could wander off. "Somewhere doesn't sound terribly specific."

"Ah..." Kamui faltered and froze, looking at their linked hands with the slightest of blushes. "Well, I didn't..." he glanced up with a sheepish smile, caught in his attempt to escape being a possible bother. "I figured you wouldn't want me to tag along. I didn't want to get in the way or anything." But it seemed as though Subaru didn't want him to leave; to wander off by himself, and that thought... well, it made the slightly smaller boy rather happy. More than it probably should have.

Subaru didn't really take note of the other's change in expression, paying more attention to his words than the color on his face. "I... don't see how you would be getting in the way at all." It had been a long time since they'd seen one another and he was certain that Hokuto would have no ill sentiment toward the other boy for coming along. That wasn't the sort of person he thought his sister would ever be. "Besides it's been a long time since I've been around you as well."

That won another warm smile, Kamui quite content (and fluttery) with the idea that Subaru wanted him around because he'd missed him. "If you're sure it's okay." Oh, Kamui really hoped Subaru would continue holding his hand, the contact making him fuzzy-warm. "I kinda... need to talk to her about that embarrassing personals ad she put out for me while you were gone." He blushed. "The responses were weird. I don't want her to EVER do it again."

"Hokuto-chan did..." Subaru had to stifle a laugh with his free hand. That definitely sounded like something that his sister would do. It seemed the two of them were still having some of the same kinds of issues in his absence. Good to know that not everything had changed while he was away from the city. Some things were already leaving him feeling a bit out of place. "You wouldn't be in the way. I'm not sure how you'd even manage that."

"Hey, don't laugh!" Kamui'd whined with a pout, all of it to be taken in an obviously playful manner, feeling a little more at ease. Things had been awkward up until now with Subaru, but... maybe things really could go back to normal, even with all that had changed. Kamui could play with him, stay close to him... things could be right. "Maybe we should tell her to put out an ad for you, hm? See how you feel?" His teasing was accompanied by a smirk and a small poke to the side; using his free hand, of course. "Course, we couldn't let you go out with anyone who replied." He snuggled the other's arm a little.

Subaru honestly couldn't help it. Of the things there were to miss about the city the way his sister seemed to tease Kamui had numbered among them, as odd as it might have been. Having been without their company there were a lot of things that he'd felt were lacking in his time alone, though it was not something he was likely to voice. Kamui's suggestion effectively silenced him however. "Ah, no, I'd rather... I'd not wish to waste anyone's time in such a way." Of course, he didn't view himself as being at all worthwhile, much less needing to subtract from other people's time. Provided anyone replied at all.

"I'm sure lots of people wouldn't see it as a waste of time. I mean, if they bothered asking about me, they'd surely ask about someone as great as you. But then again," a loud, frustrated sigh, "if my experience says anything, most of the people wouldn't have innocent intentions."

A small growl left the smaller teen's throat, looking away a little. "And if they tried anything, I'd have to kick their ass for sure." Not that Subaru couldn't defend himself, but... Kamui DID have that whole protective thing going on for the other now.

"I don't think there'd be any risk of me getting that sort of attention." It seemed that his friend was concerned about him then, even given that the situation was hypothetical. Somehow that was something nice to know. Although he'd no doubt Hokuto would give someone hell if they were truly the threatening sort, in addition to Kamui offering to kick the offender's rear. If there were a time that either of them needed it he'd hope that he could be of help to them as well.

"You can't say that. Not when you have Sakurazuka after you." With that, Kamui tugged Subaru closer to himself, a protective gesture. There was, well, a bit of possessiveness in it too, but that was far from intentional. At least on a conscious level. "There are plenty like him who wouldn't want you for wholesome things." And now he was practically clinging to the other. "I've experienced this first hand." And he REALLY shouldn't have said that, but... if it would help cement Seishirou's fakeness, then... so be it.

Subaru still had difficulty believing that one, considering the fact that Seishirou was older than him and seemed rather well-liked by most others. Although Hokuto had teased relentlessly that was something in her nature, and she'd done the same in regards to Kamui, though didn't seem to be pushing them together quite so aggressively. Though, he wasn't really able to comment on that with much perspective as apparently some things he overlooked entirely. Thoughts along those lines were effectively derailed by Kamui's latter comment however, concern becoming prominent in his mind. "I...I'm sorry to hear that." He wanted to ask, but it wasn't his place.

"Eh, don't worry about it," Kamui said softly, obviously fine at leaving it there. He had all the time in the world to tell Subaru the things that had happened to him, both good and bad (though mostly bad). It was probably best not to let it all slip on their first meeting after all those months. "Just stay away from Sakurazuka unless Hokuto and I are there to protect you."

A moment of somewhat comfortable silence passed, Kamui leaning more on Subaru that he had meant to, a yawn escaping his mouth. "God, what time is it?" He really should have looked at a clock before embarking on his Subaru-finding mission, but... he'd been too emotional to think of it.

Blinking at the question, Subaru shifted, holding up his free arm and getting a glance at a watch. It hadn't been regular practice for him to keep one onhand but being alone he'd been entirely responsible for his own activities and schedule where Hoktuo used to moderate to some degree. Looking at it for a moment he was fairly surprised by the time displayed. Had he wandered that long? Perhaps they'd spoken for a good while...

"It... appears to be one in the morning, provided I adjusted to the proper time." He stated after a few moments. The darkness around him hadn't been of much notice while he was walking about.

"Oh. You think Hokuto is even awake at this time?" And Kamui was totally going to go to sleep on Subaru now, another sleepy spell hitting him. He got those a lot; it seemed, seeing as he never slept well. At least not since this Subaru had left him. "I mean, I know she stays up late when she's into a project, but I... she might be asleep this time." Which was certainly good for him: less noise and pouncing that way.

Subaru speculated, knowing that while Hokuto could stay up late with the best of them, it was not likely that she'd be sitting up quite this late. He would have wished to greet her upon his arrival, however it did not seem that was going to work out. If she was asleep he would not disturb her. It would have to wait until the morrow. "You have a point. She may have gone to bed already."

"Mn." Kamui nodded, sighing for a moment, even though he was totally not disappointed with the idea of Hokuto being asleep. "Well, maybe... we should go to bed, and then you can see her in the morning." Another yawn, the smaller boy sinking by the moment. "If that's okay with you, of course. If you're not tired, then I won't force you to bed or anything..."

"It likely wouldn't be a good idea to stay up too late. From what I understand these curses are coming in bulk, and it'd be better to be ready to face that well-rested." Although it'd be unusual to not be by himself for the first time in a long while. Subaru could tell that Kamui was weary and based on what Tatsumi-san had told him it was best to get some decent sleep. Curses had always been taxing.

"Yeah. But we're just lucky they haven't been too bad lately. You missed the one where lots of people were..." a shiver that had nothing to do with the chilly air, "um, decaying. It was gross." With a shake of his head, trying to clear the creepy images from it, he gently tugged Subaru's hand, smiling softly at him. "Shall we go? Before I fall over and go to sleep here?" Which, he knew, wouldn't be the best of plans. Hypothermia and all.

Subaru couldn't avoid making a bit of a face at the idea of people decaying, regardless of the fact that his job more or less had left him exposed to such things more times than were easy to recount. Tugged along however he started walking, taking a moment to look around before he thought he knew where he was going. Hopefully Kamui had a better idea in case he was mistaken. "Best not to sleep on the pavement, I'd imagine."

"My thoughts exactly," he practically yawned out, now dragging Subaru back to building four. He was lucky, really, that he'd gotten somewhat accustomed to the city; used to going from friend's house to friend's house to stay, everyone located in different parts. Still, it was a pain in the ass to walk anywhere, seeing as there always was a crowd, no matter what the hour. "Damn it, if I wasn't half asleep, I'd so fly us back to your place." Course, they were almost there anyway, but... next time.

"I wouldn't want to trouble you..." While Subaru was aware that Kamui could fly he didn't want to be an unnecessary burden in any future instances. He seemed to have caused far more than enough trouble for others already. It was fortunate that it seemed the other boy was well aware of direction. Things like that he would definitely have to re-learn to be sure he didn't inconvenience anyone. As they were coming near a building it would seem tired or no it wouldn't have been a necessary measure to fly.

"Mmm... it wouldn't be any trouble," he insisted with shake of his head, the both of them entering the building and approaching the Sumeragi twins' apartment. It was a very good thing that Kamui had retained the keys, his keychain now rather... full. He did tend to jump from place to place, even though now... he would be more than happy to settle in with the twins again. If they'd allow him, of course. "I do want to take you flying sometime, you know. I've strengthened my wings enough."

As soon as the door opened, he dragged Subaru to the bedroom, making sure not to be loud as to wake Hokuto. Though... she DID tend to sleep like a rock, so he had no idea why he was being so paranoid. Whatever. He simply flopped onto the bed, quickly making himself at home and curling up. Oh, how he'd missed this...

Following along it was apparent to Subaru how tired Kamui was. Reflecting upon the fact that the other boy had expressed that sleeping by himself seldom lent to a restful night he could only wonder if anything had been done about it. He would hope that the other hadn't been having sleep troubles for as long as he'd been gone. Doubtful that his absence could have such a strong impact, surely. And he would rather it not since that would've merely added to the list of things that had caused unease for the people he knew.

Determining that he'd skip on pajamas for the evening he shrugged out of his jacket and set it aside, surprised that while the room had made some transitions it wasn't terribly different. The way things were in the city he'd expected it would be far more foreign. It was something of a relief, something that hadn't changed a great deal, settling on the bed himself once he was done with his survey of the room. So many things were different.

Kamui smiled to himself when he felt the bed dip, signaling that Subaru had settled down as well. Maybe now... he could sleep. Sure, he'd been doing it a lot lately, but none of it was restful. He, honestly, hadn't gotten more than a few hours worth of restful sleep since Subaru had been gone.

Now, though... he couldn't hold back asleep, whispering a yawny, "good night, Subaru," before he closed his eyes, quickly drifting into a dead sleep. A dead, peaceful sleep, for once.

Subaru was surprised that the other boy had drifted off so quickly, but he had seemed very tired. Likely he shouldn't have been up as late as he was. If that had been on his behalf, it was something he'd have to make up for later. Keeping Kamui up late when he was weary wasn't something he'd have wished to do.

From what little he did know things hadn't gone well for the other boy. Without details at least that much had been apparent to him, and he'd wished he'd been around to do something about it. Anything at all. For a few moments he simply thought about what might've changed had he been present, but the past was nothing he could effect. Putting his arms around Kamui he held the other boy close, wishing he'd been able to protect him as he'd claimed he would. "I'm sorry."
