Log;
Today had gone so completely wrong. Hotaru sat on her bed, arms wrapped around the pillow, chin resting in it's cushiony softness. She'd been so relieved when her sight came back that she'd wanted to read everyone's messages on the terminal. BAD idea. Violet eyes glanced at the door. It was locked, but she knew he was probably still on the other side. She frowned, heaving a sigh as she adjusted her skirt yet again. No, it hadn't been bad enough to find out that Archer thought she acted like a 5-yr old, the City had to make it WORSE and when she'd yelled at him that she wished she was HIS age and then she'd show him how much of a child she was, she'd looked down to find that she now WAS his age. Which meant that her hair was too long, her shirt was too tight, and her skirt was too short. The only thing better was that he didn't even SAY anything. Just stared. And so she'd spent the day locked in her room. In a mood.
Archer didn't think Hotaru sounded to happy. The fact that she had locked her door also made him a bit worried. So finally he worked up the courage to knock on her door to find out what was wrong.
She scowled and hunkered down into the pillows. Stupid Archer....why'd he have to go and say that anyway? "Go away..." Unfortunately for her, her remark lacked any of the anger she'd intended to put behind it and just ended up sounding dejected. She bit her lip and glanced down at the storybook she'd been reading. Violet eyes flashed with a slight bit of jealousy at the picture of the happy princess in the arms of her prince. I bet he doesn't think SHE'S just a kid... She sighed, tucking a strand of long black hair back behind her ear. Why couldn't someone love her like that? Then there'd at least be one person who didn't think of her as a child. Maybe Itachi-sama would, but that was probably too much to hope for. She glanced back at the door and sighed. "What do you want?"
"You've been in there all day! Is anything wrong? That's all I want to know." Archer was genuinely worried.
"I'm fine....." Though...she didn't sound fine. In fact, she sounded like she'd lost her best friend.
Archer's voice sounded a little dejected. "Then you're okay? I guess I'll just stand out here then."
She sighed to herself. As much as she wanted to stay mad at him, she missed him. Before Archer had come, she'd been alone all the time, and she really didn't want to go back to that. She slipped off of the bed and padded over to the door. Standing in front of it for a moment, she reached out and turned the latch, letting the door fall open just a bit.
Archer turned his head around the corner. When he caught sight of Hotaru, he gasped. "Wha- what happened to you?"
Her cheeks coloured, and she automatically tugged at the hem of her skirt, which would have only needed to shrink about an inch to be completely indecent. "Dunno...."
"Uhhhhh..." Archer paused for a few moments. He turned around, scratching the back of his head. "Right. So, what's bothering you?"
She frowned at him and punched him in the arm with a scowl. "Don't stare!"
"Sorry, sorry!" He didn't feel the punch at all, but for her sake, he acted like it hurt.
She frowned some more, wrapping her arms around her shoulders self-consciously. Unfortunately, that didn't do anything to help the white sweater that currently looked as though it was painted onto her... "Why does it matter what's bothering me? I'm just a kid.."
"It's quite obvious that you aren't a kid. Even before today, you've been 15 years old. What's really the problem, because it does matter to me, okay?" Archer still had his back turned, not wanting to risk getting punished again.
"Then WHY did you tell her I might as well be one if you don't think I am?" As much as she currently wanted to hurl something at the back of his head, she knew that was going a bit too far. It seemed that Archer, like most men, had the same sort of difficulties taking hints that she'd heard about.
Archer mentally sighed. He knew what she was talking about now. "I never said you were a kid. I just said that sometimes, because you are a bit naive, you tend to think like a 5 year old. Trust me. When I was 16, I had the same problem myself, thinking I could stop the war by myself, with no help at all."
"I know a 16-yr old who saved the world...twice.....at least..until I turned around and destroyed it..."
"I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. Can you find it in yourself to forgive me?"
She sighed. Try as she might, she just couldn't stay mad at him. Stepping forward, she rested her forehead against his shoulderblades, arms slipping around his waist. "It hurts when you say things like that... but....I can't stay mad at you...."
Archer turned around and smiled at her. He gave her a hug back and said, "I won't do it again, alright?"
"Promise?" She liked this. Liked just being held this way. And it was nice that he didn't have to bend down so far to hug her, like he normally had to.
"I promise."
She stepped back, face slightly red. "Ne.....do I...do I look...ok like this?" She wasn't exactly sure what to think of her current form. She assumed it had to be a curse, and it was rather awful to feel as though she was about to be showing more then she wanted to, but she'd studied herself in the mirror and couldn't help but wonder what everyone else thought of it. I guess this is how I'll look when I'm REALLY Archer's age?
Archer laughed nervously. He had dealt with enough Tsundere types in his day, so he had to be cautious. "You look quite beautiful. Umm...although you look very nice this way, I think you look just as good any other day."
"You...you really think so? Do you...do you think that.. that Itachi-sama would like me this way?" She knew Itachi was a touchy subject, but despite that, it was Archer's opinion that mattered the most to her.
"I think so. I really do. But you know I really don't want to answer that other question."
She sighed, dropping her head. "I wish you'd give Itachi-sama a chance...he's NOT a bad person. Not at all like that woman said he was..."
"He's already had his chance with me and he's failed. No man with pure intentions would want to do as much as he did with you in such a short amount of time." Archer stopped for a second and mumbled to himself. "It's not like I want another guy around you anyways."
The blood rose to her head in a rush as her eyes widened. "A...A..Archer...." Shaking her head, she frowned. "Don't say things like that about him. He didn't DO anything! He just took me out to dinner. It wasn't even a proper date, because I didn't even get a goodnight kiss!" Obviously, she was a tad bit sore about that little fact. Well, not exactly sore. But a date was supposed to end with a kiss. And she couldn't help but feel as though her first real date had ended wrong.
Archer crossed his arms across his chest. "He already did far to much in my opinion."
She sighed and glanced up at him, frowning slightly. "So I guess that means you're not gonna let me ask for my kiss."
"I won't let him! Never. He has to be at least 9 years older than you. That's enough to get someone arrested where I'm from. No, he isn't kissing you."
Well. THAT was to be expected. Unfortunately, she'd had a rough day. And she'd been rather looking forward to the thought that, with her being older, Itachi just might be amenable to the idea of kissing her. And now Archer was getting in the way. She glared at him. "Who says YOU get to decide who I kiss? It's not fair...." She sat down on her bed, sulking. "I don't even KNOW what a kiss feels like...."
Archer looked at her with one eyebrow higher than the other. He didn't speak, but he was sure his opinion on the matter was quite obviously expressed through his expression.
She studied him, mentally seething slightly. "Why are you looking at me like that? Don't girls in your world wonder what it feels like to be kissed?" Sighing, she pulled her knees up to her chest. "Not like anyone would want to kiss me, anyway..." She glanced back at the picture in the book, slightly sad smile on her face. "But it sure looks like it would be nice.."
Archer walked over and sat down beside her. He put his arm around her shoulder and said, "I'm sure there are plenty of guys out there that will kiss you. It's seems special because you've never done it, but I can tell you it really isn't."
She looked confused for a moment. "It isn't? But...but I thought your first kiss is supposed to be magical. Poppa...used to tell me that when I was little.." Violet eyes fixed on his grey ones. "Wasn't yours special?"
"It was special then. But then later I realized that it wasn't that much. It didn't mean as much as I thought it would."
"But why? Wasn't she a special person to you?" She snuggled up to him with a sigh, resting her head on his shoulder.
"I was pretty sure I was in love with her. But it didn't work out. She had to...go back home. It's just not as special as it sounds." Archer sighed. Explaining the past was always hard.
"That's sad. I...don't think I've ever been in love. There was this boy once...a boy in school that I liked. I was 13. He...he said that he liked me too, and told me to meet him after school. But...when I got there, he was there with another girl. He said he'd just told me that to see if I'd actually believe that he'd love someone like me.." She bit her lip at the painful memories. "Does love hurt?"
"Love only hurts when the one you love betrays you." Archer put his hand on her head and ruffled her hair. "I won't let anyone do that to you though, okay?"
"But...how can you keep that from happening?" She didn't quite understand. How would he know if someone she loved was going to betray her until after it happened?
"I don't know, but I won't let anyone hurt you."
She nodded slightly. With a smile, she glanced up at him. "Ne, I know ONE person you don't have to worry about."
"Really? And who would that be?" Archer asked.
With a grin, she flung her arms around his waist. "Archer! You won't hurt me, right?"
Archer smiled brightly and hugged her back. "Never. I care too much about you."
She pulled back after a few minutes and reached under her pillow, pulling out a paper-wrapped parcel. "Ne, Archer....I got your Christmas present...do you want it?"
"Of course!" Archer said excitedly.
With a smile, she handed the brown package to him. Inside was a scarf, made of red yarn and edged in black and grey fringe. It had a black stripe running lengthwise down the center with grey designs on it that were strangely similar to the ones on the front of his shirt.
Archer put on the scarf. With a smile he said, "I don't think I'll ever take it off."
"You really like it? I...I made it myself.."
"That makes it all the much better. Thank you very much."
She smiled, happy that her hard work had been worthwhile. The scarf looked good on him. In fact, it actually looked like it belonged there. "You're gonna wear it in the summer too? But you'll get too hot."
"I won't. Trust me. I, uhhh, also have something for you." Archer reached into his pocket and brought out a metal case.
"Really? Ok. Should I close my eyes?"
"You can if you want."
"Ok." She closed her eyes, waiting for him to tell her when she could open them.
Archer grabbed her hand and took the present out of the case. It was a gold ring, which he put on her finger. "I wasn't completely sure what to make you because all I really know is weapons. So I made you a ring out of the gold from the sword Excalibur."
She was speechless. It was such a simple ring, yet it seemed prettier to her then anything that could have had stones or engravings or anything else on it. She held up her right hand, studying the thin band of gold, tears in her eyes. "A..Archer....it's beautiful..."
"Anything for you." Archer didn't know what else to do, so he gave her another hug.
She hugged him back, snuggling into his arms. Pulling back slightly, she leaned up and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thank you..."
Archer put a hand on his cheek and smiled. Even if Hotaru looked older, he could still hide his emotions well enough. "You know, Glinda has a present for you too. Perhaps you should get it from her."
"She does? I guess I should, then." Getting to her feet, she tugged on the skirt again with a frown. "I feel indecent..."
Archer stood up. "Maybe I should leave the room so you can fix yourself up?"
She nodded. "Ok...I just hope I have something that won't be too short..."
Archer waved and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
She rummaged around in her closet, looking for a longer skirt. Finding a black one with dark red trim on it, she pulled it on, satisfied that although it hung a good few inches shorter then it had before, it was nowhere near as indecent as the other one. Thankfully, her waist had remained much the same size. Shirts were another problem. So she settled on a stretchy tanktop that, though tight, at least wasn't showing anything. And it wasn't as bad when she threw on a white buttondown with black ribbon trim opened over the top of it. She combed fingers through slightly tangled black hair, frowning as it snarled around her hand. THAT was why she'd kept it short. Pulling out a brush, she combed it out and deftly wove it into a single thick braid. Finding her oversized black snow boots, she stuck her feet into them before stepping out of her door. "Archer, does this look ok?"
"You look perfect. You ready to go?"
She nodded, walking over to him and slipping her hand through his elbow. She giggled a bit. "We look almost like we're on a date, Archer."
Archer laughed. "Maybe, maybe."
"We could pretend it's a date." She giggled and poked him in the ribs. "Even though you probably have a prettier spirit-girlfriend."
"I don't know what you're talking about. The only pretty girl I know is right beside me."
"You're silly, Archer." Grabbing her cloak, she slung the heavy black wool around her shoulders, Uchiha crest settling over her heart as she fastened the clasp in the front. "Aren't you going to get cold?"
"Nope. I have your scarf to keep me warm." Archer played with the end of it to emphasize his point. "Love and care can be a very warm thing."
She nodded, fingering the emblem on the cloak. "Yeah...I still need to thank Itachi-sama for the cloak." Without even looking at his expression, she sighed and rolled her eyes. "And yes, I know you think it's a bad idea. Would it make you feel better if I said you could come along?"
"I'd feel a little better, yes. Now, shall we get going?"
"Ok!" She took his arm again, letting him lead the way.
