Log: Complete
When; 28th December
Rating; PG-13 (for swearing)
Characters; Kurosaki Ichigo and Kuchiki Rukia
Summary; After finally telling someone that she's in the City, Rukia heads over to see the substitute Shinigami. Fun times to be had.
Log;
With a slight frown, Rukia mounted the steps to apartment 15. Stopping in front of the door, she stared at the metal numbers for a moment before she lifted one leg and kicked the door. Hard. After all, it would be easier to get his attention that way.
He didn't even need to think about who it was, beating on his door. The moment he'd given his room number, he doubted that Rukia would've been away for long. And for that, he had to admit to himself, he was...glad? It was some semblance of normalcy. And after everything that'd happened as of late, it was welcomed. "Door's unlocked."
Hearing the familiar voice, she couldn't help but smile. Same old Ichigo, it sounded like. Grumpy and antisocial as usual. Turning the knob, she stepped inside, slipping off her sandals at the door and stepping around the corner. "Gee, you can't even greet a girl at the door? Guess it was pointless to assume you'd learned any manners in this place, Ichigo."
Listening as the other made her way inside, Ichigo smirked to himself. It seemed that some things hadn't changed. "What, you worried you'll get lost?" Placing his drink down on the table, he glanced up, watching as Rukia made her way inside. "It's been a while." Well, for him at least.
"Feh, of course not." She looked him over, making mental note of the fact that he seemed relatively unharmed in any way. Tired, yes, but unharmed. Well that was good. At least that meant she didn't have to deal with the annoyance of keeping him quiescent while wounds healed. She nodded. "I guess it has, for you."
Three weeks. It'd been three weeks since he'd left home on his self-appointed mission. And now, he was stuck in a completely different world, with people he'd never even heard of before. His enemies and his once-allies seemed to fit into the fray too. "Well, you're stuck here now too." There could be worse people to be stuck there with. "Get used to it."
She frowned. "What do you mean, 'stuck'?" Stuck? Stuck wasn't good. Stuck would imply that they couldn't leave. Which was completely unacceptable.
"You're here till they decide to let you out." Or so he'd been told. "Ask the others if you wanna know more about it." Turning his attention away from the girl, he motioned quickly over to the seats. "Sit down or somethin'."
Surprisingly, she actually did what he told her to. Plopping down on one of the seats, she stared ahead in seeming disbelief. "Wait, 'they'? You mean those deities that Kurotsuchi-fukutaichou was talking about?"
"Something like that." He hadn't really paid much attention to them during his time there. Well, other than complaining about their choices in curses as of late. "They run the show here."
She nodded slightly. "I see. I suppose they're the ones who inflict these 'curses' on everyone, then?"
"Yeah, those too. They pick 'em and the targets. Not everyone is hit by them though." And apparently they weren't all hit with the same things at once anymore. "You'll get used to it soon enough."
"Great. So, what they'll make me think I'm a boy for a day or something? Doesn't sound too unbearable. Embarrassing, but not unbearable" She frowned, faint blush spreading across the bridge of her nose as her stomach growled. Hopefully he hadn't heard that.
If only they were all that easy. "You might not have much of a difference with that, but try things like being turned into a kid and forgetting everything. Or how about disappearing into a place..." He shook his head, continuing as though he hadn't mentioned that. "There's been a load of different things happening. People telling the truth all day. Loosing their sense. Everything. Changing sex is only the beginning."
"Sounds like fun." Voice thick with sarcasm, she sighed, running a hand through black hair. "So I hear there's a truce. Between the Shinigami and Aizen. What do you know about that?"
"Something like that. Fuck knows if it's still in place. S'not like it matters to me anyway." That had been proved to him twice already. "The Shinigami don't start anything against Aizen and his 'kids', and they wont start anything either."
"What do you mean by that?" Now she knew why he seemed to be in such a bad mood. Ichigo hated being unable to act, and a truce of that nature would put him in a position where acting itself could potentially put people he cared about in danger.
"What bit? Why it might not be in place, or what the terms are?" Neither he really knew all that much about. But he'd at least give her the dignity of saying whatever he knew.
"Well..both, I guess." She was surprised, for one, that Aizen and the Arrancar had agreed to something like this, but she supposed she couldn't put much past Aizen.
"Something to do with Matsumoto. She made some kind of truce with the guy. Neither of them are allowed to attack the other. But that might be out of it now. They've been having their own little fights on and off for a while now."
Rukia nodded, ignoring her stomach's renewed protest at the fact that she hadn't put anything IN it for about 2 days. She was not going to embarrass herself in front of Ichigo. Not so much because she cared (which she did), but because she knew he'd probably never let her forget it. And then she'd have to plant his face in the ground.
A small smirk appeared in response, before he was pushing himself up onto his feet. Had he been in any kind of normal mood, he'd currently be laughing at the small Shinigami. As it was, he was instead heading into the kitchen in search of something for the other to eat.
She watched as he brushed past her, trying to figure out exactly what he was doing. He wasn't laughing at her, so he probably hadn't heard her noisy stomach. So that was at least one good thing.
It didn't take all that long before he was heading back out, the remains from his earlier lunch having been dished out into a bowl. Heading back out, he shoved the food in front of Rukia's face, not wanting to make a big deal out of it.
Violet eyes widened as her face turned red. So he had noticed. But, for whatever reason, he seemed to not want to make a big fuss about it. Muttering a 'thank you', she took the bowl and the offered chopsticks and dug in, trying to keep it from being obvious that she hadn't eaten for days. And failing. Miserably.
An eyebrow rose in response to her eating habits, but he left it at that. For now, he was simply...glad...that there was someone else around that he felt comfortable with. And of course, the fact they weren't a child helped greatly too.
She narrowed her eyes at him, completely unaware that she had rice stuck to her face. "What?"
Looking over in confusion, Ichigo shrugged. "What d'ya mean, what?" An almost smirk. "How longs it been since you last ate?"
Rukia paused, staring down into the bowl and trying to hide the flush that crept up her face. "No...not long. That is...I think about.....3 days..? Maybe..?"
Okay, now he hadn't expected that answer. A day, two at most. But three?! "Idiot. Why didn't you go get anything? Can't take care of yourself or something?"
She glared at him. "With WHAT?!" She fingered the material of her hakama. "You know, these things don't really come with pockets. There's also that little issue of asking the Menos to stop charging a cero at me long enough to check and see if I grabbed my wallet." His notion that she couldn't take care of herself stung. After all, it wasn't as though she knew anything about this place. Maybe they had an entirely different currency system, for all she knew.
"You think I had anything when I came here either?" Though how he'd appeared in his body was anyone’s guess. "There's people all over who keep tryin' to help the new arrivals. If you hadn't been so busy hiding, you would've found one of 'em."
A scowl and gritted teeth were the only warning he got before her fist connected with his jaw. "Well FINE! Then if you're so all-knowing, where were YOU?!" She turned back to the bowl, refusing to look at him. She didn't want to admit that she hadn't known what to do, what to think in this place. That she'd sought him out by trying to follow his reiatsu, not because she was being stubborn, but because she knew she could trust him. No, she couldn't tell him that. It would just make her seem like some sort of weakling that couldn't take care of herself.
His eyes widened for the brief moment before her fist connected with him. A hand moved automatically to his chin, jaw opening a few times before he was glaring at the other. "Which fucking time?!" Okay, it wasn't a smart idea for him to be both pissed off and answering questions about his recent disappearing acts. "The time where I was half-dead in the forest? The time I went off to the desert? Or the time I was in my own fucked up mind?!"
She spun around, eyes angry and...something else. She almost looked...hurt? "How the hell should I know?! I was hiding under a fucking bridge because I didn't know where the fuck I WAS!"
And this was why the people at school couldn't understand how he and Rukia could consider themselves friends. "You're the one who asked the god dammed question. At least know what you're asking!" Arguing seemed to be a pastime for them.
She gritted her teeth and bit back another retort. No, now was not a good time. Not when she was already feeling overwhelmed by everything, and was exhausted, stressed, and now he was yelling at her. Great. The ONLY thing that could make this any worse would be if she was....oh great. She felt the tears well up over her bottom lids. Perfect. NOW everything was just perfect.
He blinked, all the anger deflating from him at the very moment he spotted those tears. Sighing to himself, he looked away as he spoke. "Look, you're here now. You're welcome to stay. And we've got food. So quit acting like a spoilt brat and get used to it."
She nodded, still looking away. She hated this. Hated seeming so weak in front of him. Just like that time before, when he'd rescued her in Seireitei. When she'd been about to die, there he was. But...even though he'd been there when she needed him, that didn't mean that she wanted to seem like she ALWAYS needed him to bail her out of things. "Thank you..."
The problem was that her thoughts and his were completely different on this occasion. Whereas events such a her rescue had been about protecting her, this wasn't anything like that. She just wasn't from a place where she had to take care of herself in this way. He knew about general living, and she knew about Soul Society; living in Rukongai and Seireitei. They were completely different things. So as much as he complained about it, he couldn't honestly blame her for not knowing certain things. Of course, he would never be saying that aloud.
She spared a glance over at him from the corner of her eye as she continued to eat. He had that look on his face, the one that he got when he disagreed with her. "What?"
"Forget it." He wasn't going to explain himself, especially if that meant giving her fuel to turn against him at some point. "Just finish eating and you can go find your friends or something. They'll probably want to see you once they know you're here."
Rukia flinched slightly. He really didn't want her here. She sighed mentally, staring down into the bowl. Maybe she should have just taken that one girl up on her offer of a room. But....she'd wanted to find him. She knew he probably thought she had nothing better to do then irritate him, but she couldn't help but wish that they could just have a normal conversation. Without the arguing, without the fighting and the insults. It would be...nice. Finishing the last of the food, she set the bowl down and stood up, facing the door. "You really want me out of your hair that badly, then...."
Okay, she'd lost him now. "Huh? What d'ya..." And then it clicked. She thought he was trying to get rid of her. "You really are an idiot." He'd lost count of how many times he'd had to call her that now. "The Shinigami out here are gonna want to see you. I don't need them inviting themselves over to do that." And now he just had to hope she understood what he was trying to say.
She smiled slightly, though she didn't turn around. "I..I know they will. I...wanted to see you first..." Swallowing past the pink that crept up to her cheeks, she put on a smile and turned around. "I mean, we've spent so much time together, and since the last time I saw you was during a fight, so I wanted to make sure you were alright first." Whether he believed her or not, the words sounded incredibly fake to her. But maybe that was just because she hadn't really meant to admit that she'd wanted to see him first. WHY she'd wanted to, well that wasn't something to dwell on right now. Either way, it had just slipped out.
"...right?" And even more confusion. She'd already spoken to him, so she knew perfectly well that he was fine. Or at least, well enough to respond. Surely there were more important things to take care of first while she was here. "Well, now you know, so...?"
She smiled, nodding. "Yeah, I guess you're right." Stepping over to him, she stopped a few inches away, and simply leaned forward, resting her forehead against his chest for a brief second. "Just...humour me sometimes, ok?" She stepped back and smiled. "I think I'm gonna take a nap before I go see the others. I uh....kinda sorta haven't hardly slept since I got here, either."
Blinking down at her, Ichigo could only nod his head in response. He'd...do something. What though, he wasn't sure. But that didn't matter just yet, did it? "The rooms are through there." He pointed toward the two bedrooms...and promptly realised there was going to be a problem on the days that Nell decided to stay over. "Go get some sleep then."
": She nodded and headed down the hallway. Glancing from one room to the next, she finally just shrugged and plopped down. On his bed.
Watching after her, he frowned as he noticed that she chose his room. Had it been under any other circumstances, she would've found herself being thrown out of there right now. But as it was, he would just let her rest. Later on he could sort out things as simple as sleeping arrangements. ...he was going to have to talk to Nell about it too. "Great."
She was asleep almost instantly, snuggling up to his pillow with a contented sigh and a small smile on her face.
