Log: Complete

When; 31st December (early AM)
Rating; PG
Characters; Uzumaki Naruto and Kyuubi
Summary; Enough is enough. Finally plucking up the courage to take up his fathers suggestion, it's time for Naruto to have a little talk with a certain lodger of his.
Log;

So this was it. He‘d agreed to try and find his own settlement with Kyuubi, and now was the time he’d chosen. Things couldn’t go on the way they were headed. Not any longer. The talk with his father, the meeting with Aizen; both had helped reiterate the fact that he had to find some way to level the field. And for him, that meant a much needed, long overdue talk with his captive.

"There are people after us, after you."

Feet crunching through the blanket of snow, Naruto continued on his path deeper into the forest. As much as people had considered the area dangerous, the forest had become a place for him to spend time alone, free from the problems of the city. Sure, the ticking still reached him, but…

A hand dropped to his stomach, a weak smile appearing on his face.

…he wasn’t alone. The ticking wasn’t as loud as it could’ve been.

"Aizen might’ve stopped for now, but Akatsuki is still here. Itachi is here."

He was repeating facts that he already knew. And he was clearly not happy with that. His hand gripped at his shirt tightly, his feet taking him on a shaky path toward the base of the nearest tree to him. Sliding down into a seat, he rested his back against the trunk, his knees being pulled up to rest his arms on. Looking ahead at the frozen scenery, blue eyes blinked, once, twice, and the scenery had changed.

"Weren’t you the one who decided they didn’t need my power anymore?" The amusement in the echoing voice was clear. Making his way further through the shadows, giant metallic bars soon loomed into view.

"And now you deem it fit to take those words back." A statement as opposed to a question. They both already knew the answer to that.

Continuing forward, Naruto moved closer to the familiar gates, pausing a few short meters away. Already, he could feel the creatures chakra seeping out, its tendrils pulling at the edges of his mind.

A scowl was his first response. Both he and Kyuubi knew exactly what the situation was. "You shouldn’t have made the deal then." Which didn’t help matters at all. He already knew how much of a mistake it’d been to agree to Itachi’s terms. The man now had a constant way of tracking him. Not only that, but he was now stuck, unable to help when others were put in danger courtesy of Akatsuki.

But it’d been worth it…hadn’t it?

"And you’re not even sure anymore." This time, there was a laugh, cold and loud that reverberated through the cavern.

"I know what I’ve done, and I know what I have to do!" His voice was low, expression proving his seriousness at the situation. "And that’s why I know you’re going to agree to this." His eyes narrowed as he took another step closer to the bars, staring inside.

A pair of red glowing orbs stared back, growing corporeal before him. The only response to Naruto’s words was a rumbling growl that seemed to make the entire room shake. Kyuubi wasn’t happy at his supposed order.

"You’re either going to agree to it, or you’re going to be stuck here." A smirk. "Alone." The growling stopped immediately, the atmosphere growing thicker as the kitsune regarded its hosts words.

"If you tried something like that, what makes you think I wont just take over and do as I wish?"

The answer was simple; "They wouldn’t let you exist." If things degraded that badly, then he knew he could rely on the others to stop the demon from rampaging. Even if that meant having to kill the both of them.

"And you believe that I’ll just let them destroy me?" Another laugh, amused at the mere notion of others being able to stop him. "Your father…" The word was spat out with an obvious hatred. "…is no longer alive. There is nothing he can do to stop me. No trade he can make this time."

A glare, this time from narrowed blue eyes. "He’s not the only one who’d try to stop you. I wouldn’t let you, and I doubt that any of my friends would let you hurt someone." A smirk of his own slowly emerged. "There are people here who can do things we’ve never seen before." A warning as to what else could possibly await him.

"There is nothing, in this world or our own, that can extinguish me completely." It may’ve seemed overconfidence on the demons part, but thus far, he’d existed for a millennia and had only recently found a hurdle. "You are in no position to oppose me. If I decide on it, you shall cease to exist. YOU will be the one stuck behind here."

A frown. What did he mean by that? As long as the seal was in place, Kyuubi was trapped. "But the seal has been weakened. It wouldn’t take much for me to break through, if I so wished it." Once again, it seemed to be Kyuubi who was in control.

“Then I’ll get dad to put a stronger seal in place.” Surely he knew a way to do that. He had to. The trouble was, he already knew what Kyuubi was going to say.

“Do you think I’d give you the time?” And thus a new problem became apparent.

“You know as well as I do that the others wont let you get away with it.” Kyuubi’s gaze refocused, this time giving the blond a chance to finish. He was surprised? Intrigued? Amused? It could’ve been any of the three. But it was enough to keep Kyuubi quiet for the time being, its full attention on Naruto. “But if we do things my way, then no one is going to be coming after you.” Other than Akatsuki of course. But that was a given.

The two turned silent, simply staring at the other. It relied on this one moment. If Kyuubi agreed, then they could finally concentrate on working together. If not, then Naruto would be calling a favour from his father to replace a certain earlier seal. The first meant they’d have the power to fight. The second, the time in between then and Akatsuki finding out.

"…very well." The Kyuubi shot forward, its muzzle a few inches from the inside of the gate. "Remove the seal."

Naruto didn’t budge.

"I said, remove the seal!"

And still, nothing.

"These are my terms." The loud clang of Kyuubi hitting into the bars in effort to escape was enough to make the blond start. But he remained where he was, feet firmly planted on the ground.

"The deal is, you only help as I tell you to. Other than that, you stay here." He paused, his gaze softening a little at the frustration that came rolling out through the bars. "We may’ve been forced into this, but we’re a team." A hand reached out toward the bars, his palm held to the beast through the gaps. "If we work together, we live. If not…" The rest didn’t need to be voiced as the two returned their gaze to each other.

Bringing his muzzle back to the bars once again, Kyuubi brushed the palm of Naruto’s hand lightly. An unspoken agreement to the terms. As long as Kyuubi did as was needed, Naruto would do the same. They were a team, and it was about time they acted as one.
