Log; complete
When; Jan 6
Rating; G, most likely
Characters; Grimmjow [
6thsword] & Hinamori [
hajikemomo]
Summary; Tired, tense, but with the tiniest hope, Grimmjow waits for Hinamori atop Building 5's roof.
Log;
The moment Hinamori agreed to meet him, Grimmjow was out of his apartment and flash-stepping towards the fifth building, landing heavily on the rooftop. It was cold and blanketed with snow, perhaps unfitting for such a meeting, but the foremost requirement on his mind was privacy and this was the best place he could think of, not to mention that it was here that he first told her he'd protect her.
Sighing, with his breath misting on the chilly winter air, Grimmjow brushed a heap of snow off the roof ledge and sat down to wait. His hands found his pants pockets, and for a moment he wondered why the weight of his zanpakutou was missing. He'd left it in his room. But that was most definitely a good thing, because he was there not for violence of any kind. This was an emotional confrontation. It would either restore or shatter him.

Glancing over at him, she smiled nervously, timidly. Even though she was the one with something to say, she still waited on Grimmjow to make the first move.

He wasn't sure what he was supposed to do or say, exactly, so he stood and approached her. He was trying very hard to calm him nerves, but the expression on his face belied his conflicted emotions: eagerness to hear what he wanted her to say and fear -- yes, fear -- that he'd never hear them.
"Momo," he said quietly in greeting. He raised his arms halfway, wanting to hug her, to touch her, but unsure if she would mind.

"I should say no. I should turn around right now and leave." But. Although she'd denied it several times over, although she'd tried hard to ignore it, there was no use resisting. There was something. A sense of vulnerability from the Espada that was all her doing and yet she hadn't raised a hand against him.
It was both moving and scary, and she hesitated once more.
But Hinamori forced herself to move forward, to ignore the small doubt at the back of her mind, to wrap her arms around him and hide her face. "But I can't. I won't."

"Thank you," he murmured into the top of her head. He rarely ever said those words.
But he was still waiting. He would not be fully reassured until she said exactly what he wanted her to say.

It sounded silly, and she returned to hiding her face before finally murmuring, "I love you."

"You have no idea how glad I am to hear that," he said. He held her back a little with one hand, the other lifting her chin so he could look into her face. "You know I love you, too."

Oddly, it wasn't as cold against her skin as she'd thought it would be, and she smiled softly as her other hand claimed the one he held under her chin.

Her touch was warm, and he revelled in it. The fear in her eyes that he remembered from a few days earlier, when he'd had an unplanned dinner with her, was completely gone.
"If I kissed you now," he asked, leaning in closer, "would you pull away?"

She bit back more laughter, instead smiling shyly again. Honestly, she hadn't dragged herself out here to listen to stupid questions from someone who had told her repeatedly he'd do what he wanted anyway. So Hinamori shrugged ever so slightly before pulling the Espada closer, leaving the smallest of distances between them before murmuring her answer.
"No, I don't think so."

Grimmjow would decide later that everything up to that point had been worth the effort. The amusement and fury and depression, even that damned day when he'd had a heart, was worth enduring for the finality in that kiss. He'd won at last. They both had.
