Log;
The couple of days has been an experience for the former Hellsing leader that had been certain. To suddenly be alive in strange new world where the dead mingled with the living and bitter enemies were forced to co-exist would be a shock to anyone's system. Luckily Arthur was the adaptable type.

It was kind of frightening at how fast a paced he worked in regards to start the healing process for his family as well as gathering information. However the Vampire Hunter that was staying with Integral was somewhat of a puzzlement. There was something about the couple of transmissions Arthur had read that made him wonder at the connection between the man D and his daughter Integral. What was more curious was that Alucard didn't seem to mind the other man's presence and that brought up question marks in Arthur's mind.

After all Alucard was infamous in his possessiveness over those he held regard for and the regard couldn't get any higher when it came to Integral. Arthur sat within the Cafe waiting patiently for the young man's arrival. This was a mystery that he wanted solved before he went after bigger fish so to speak.

Arthur did not have to wait long. Within moments of his arrival, a tall man with a head of thick, wavy dark hair framing pale, aristocratic features stepped inside. D was dressed in his customary clothing (or at least, what had become customary for him in the last few thousand years), his black cloak and wide-brimmed hat seeming to call the shadows closer to him. It was clear to anyone who had experience with the supernatural that D was not human. He nodded politely to Arthur, features betraying none of the awkwardness he felt at meeting with his long-dead grandfather, who was as yet unaware of their relationship.

"Sir Hellsing," he greeted with a polite nod. "I hope that I have not kept you waiting too long." That the dhampir would offer such social graces to a near stranger would have spoken volumes to anyone who knew him well, but upon first meeting such a thing simply appeared to be the sign of a well-raised young man. D sat, and the shadows cast by his hat brim retreated just enough to give Arthur a glimpse of his ice-blue eyes.

[<3! Thank you for starting.]

"He is here," D said, in his usual monotone, "and doubtless listening in."

Although he was not particularly thirsty (for tea or anything else), he placed an order for politeness's sake. He did not remove his hat, for then it would likely be quite clear to Arthur just who he was, but the hunter had to wonder how much his grandfather had already picked up on. Integral had not spoken of Arthur Hellsing in great detail, but D knew that the former head of Hellsing was no fool.

"It appears that you have been busy since your arrival," D noted mildly. "I trust that your efforts have been productive so far?"

D nodded to the waitress and wrapped one pale, long-fingered hand around the warm teacup. The short claws at the ends of his fingertips were as white as the china. After taking a sip of the brew, he set the tea aside.

Truth was usually the best policy, and in this instance, he felt no need to lie. However, he did not feel the need to disclose any more than Arthur had asked for. "Alucard and I sensed each other upon my arrival. Once we had ascertained that neither one of us was a threat to the other, he offered his assistance. I accepted it, in light of the situation."

The smallest hint of a smile registered in D's usually cold eyes. "I suppose that is one way of putting it. It is not uncommon for me to kindle a vampire's curiosity, I'm afraid."

Did Arthur know? It was difficult to judge, but D had the feeling that the man's suspicions were growing stronger. He would not lie to his grandfather, but he was uncertain how the knowledge that Alucard might one day produce a child with Integra would be received.

He knew. Despite Arthur's carefully controlled behavior, something told D that the elder Hellsing knew exactly who the Vampire Hunter sitting across from his was. D mentally cursed himself, but he would not lie to his family. He had already wronged them more than enough without adding deception to his list of sins.

"At times, it proves rather convenient. Their interest makes them careless."

The dhampir could feel his parasite's humor, even though the creature remained silent and hidden. He ignored it.

"Hunting is a familial obligation ... but I expect you have inferred as much on your own." Resignation colored D's tone as he pushed the now-cold tea away.

The dhampir sighed and leaned back in his chair, arms crossed loosely over his chest. Arthur did not seem pleased, and who could blame him? D did not expect acceptance from his grandfather. He was a halfbreed, accustomed to being shunned and hated.

No, D's concern was not for himself, but for his parents and how Arthur would view them now that he knew their possible future. Still, the hunter doubted that he could have kept the secret from Arthur without refusing to meet the man face-to-face.

The smoke irritated D's senses, but he did not let his discomfort show. Despite his tension, the hunter appeared perfectly relaxed as he watched his grandfather.

"Roughly ten thousand years," D replied calmly. He tilted his head to the side, ever so slightly, in an expression of curiosity. "You're angry, but not with me." The observation was made purely because D wished to know where he now stood in Arthur Hellsing's estimation. It would make future interaction easier.

D shrugged, the movement barely visible beneath the shroud of his cloak. "I am accustomed to certain ... reactions to dhampirs," was the only explanation he offered. He realized, intellectually, that Arthur was not a member of the culture that hated his kind blindly, but old habits and expectations were difficult to break sometimes.

If Arthur was not angry with D, then the next most likely target was Alucard. The hunter would have been worried if he did not know how resilient his father was from firsthand experience.

One practically had to squint to see it, but D actually made a face. His lips twisted ever so slightly with reluctance before he smoothed his features and replied, in as unemotional a voice as he could muster, "Dante Abraham Vlad Dracula Wingates Hellsing." He made certain to pitch his voice so only the two of them (and Left Hand) would hear.

The parasite snickered softly and added, voice somewhat muffled by D's other palm, "You can see why he'd rather just be called 'D'."

D actually sighed. He was not particularly fond of his proper name, especially after all these years, but who was he to deny his grandfather this one indulgence? "If you like," he allowed. After all, D was ten thousand years old. He would like to at least maintain the pretense of adulthood by giving the appearance of having granted permission for his grandfather to use that name.

Left Hand was apparently enjoying this development immensely. D could feel it snickering. He tightened his fist in warning, but the laughter did not stop.

"Is there anything else you would like to know?"

The dhampir nodded in understanding and rose from his seat. He left money on the table for the tea. After a moment's pause, he said softly, "Please don't be too hard on them. They were ... are ... good parents."

Then he was gone, having disappeared almost as effectively as Alucard, despite being incapable of phasing through walls.
