Log;
Gin had thought the curse would get better towards the end of the day. He was sorely mistaken. Things had only gotten worse for him. He had spent the entire day just laying with Rangiku, afraid that if he let her go he’d lose her forever.
He opened his eyes, sweat beaded across his forehead, waking from another nightmare where all he could see was Ran in pain, in so much pain. He slowly stood up, not wanting to wake her, and walked over to his drawer of shirts. Taking a quick glance over his shoulder to make sure she was still asleep, he pulled out the little box and looked inside, staring intently at the ring. He had proposed to her spontaneously, unable to control his emotions. But he hadn’t presented her with a ring or anything; just let the words slip out.
The curse had clearly gotten the better of him. He left the small box open and placed it in front of her on the nightstand. He had planned on not rushing her, letting her sort out her emotions, but he didn’t know how much more of it he could take. Silently he pulled on a coat and grabbed his zampakuto, leaving her curled up on his bed for the night. He walked out onto the roof, waking himself with the cold night air. After a few minutes, he jumped off the roof and dashed off towards the Underground. He needed something to keep his mind off of her for a while, and fighting seemed like the only thing that would do it.
After passing all the clubs and shops, he found the area Ran had told him about previously, where the stronger monsters were. His blade out, he started to explore, looking for any sign of something to kill. Down the path a ways, he heard a high-pitched scream. He increased his pace, sprinting down the path, finding 2 disgusting creatures hunched over an unarmed girl.
Without a word, he pulled out his blade and extended it, stabbing cleanly through the first beast. The second roared in anger, upset at the loss of his partner, and turned to face his new opponent. Sheathing his blade, Gin shunpod forward, his knee connecting with the monster’s chin. All of his anger from the past week slowly seeped out of him as he barraged the creature with nonstop punches and kicks, until finally the beast fell over, defeated. Gin shook his hands, wiping the blood off his now raw knuckles. He shook the girl with his foot, and waited for her to wake up.
The last thing Motoko remembered was heading into the Underground; somewhere she could disappear forever and not be a burden on her friends anymore. She remembered being attacked from behind, and reaching for her sword, only to remember that she swore off the sword again. Cursing under her breath, she tried to counter-attack, but in her poor emotional state she was easily taken down. She had screamed and then there was nothing.
Her eyes opened to the blurry shape of a tall man standing over her. He had a curious look on his face, and he vaguely resembled Kitsune. Her eyes still not focused, she sat up, propping herself on her arms. “Thank you,” she mumbled, grateful that her life had been saved.
“I ain’t the type to just leave someone alone like that. What’s a girl like you doin’ down here anyway?” He bent down and offered his hand, smiling comfortingly at her.
“Running away.” She took his hand and pulled herself up, propping herself on his shoulder to stop from falling over from dizziness. “I failed my friends and my duties, I have no right to live my own life anymore.” Slowly she stood on her own feet, brushing off her clothing, looking out into the darkness.
Gin was about to respond when he felt a weight lifted off his shoulders. He quickly noticed that he was not struggling to push images of Ran dying out of his head, as the images were gone. Looking at the girl, he wondered if her problems too revolved around the curse.
And they were indeed. Motoko remembered back to the fight where she finally defeated her sister. Her life was to go how she chose. She was a sword master, and a law student at a prestigious college. “I…I seem to have made a mistake.” She spun slowly, trying to find a landmark indicating where she was. “But I seem to have gotten lost.”
Gin, not wanting to leave her down to be attacked again, nodded back towards the exit. “C’mon, I’ll take ya’. Don’t want you getting’ attacked again.”
She nodded. While normally she could have easily dealt with them herself, she had already been injured, and was unarmed. “I can give you a place to sleep then, you shouldn’t be wandering around too long at night. You might catch a cold.”
The motherly instincts of the girl in front of her reminded him so much of Ran. He chuckled briefly and smiled at her. “You’re right, I’ll do that then.” They slowly headed back towards the surface, both silent, caught up in their own thoughts. Reflecting on the previous week was painful, but some of the emotions Gin had felt had been so good. He had left the apartment to get his mind off of the girl for a while, and found himself thinking about her more. Hopefully a good nights rest would help him clear his head.
