Summary; Isane now has the means to repair his ear, so Kaku comes over for that express purpose. And for shoring up his own secret agenda, of course.
Log;
Isane fretted. She did this quite frequently, of course, but it seemed to be becoming a habit when concerning a certain man whose name just happened to be Kaku. She held the man, Ingram's, gift in her hands. Biofoam, he called it. Able to regenerate lost tissue. And she'd tested it on herself first, of course, cutting a small scratch onto her arm and applying the medicine, only to watch in awe as it had repaired itself, as if watching the natural process in fast forward. But... Kaku had scared her, earlier. Talking about how dangerous, how very dangerous it had been that she'd told anyone about his situation. And... Had it really been? ... The shinigami didn't know.
Kaku came to Isane's door, knocking softly. He was rather pleased that he would be getting his ear back; but what pleased him all the more were Isane's reactions earlier. He was putting her right where he wanted; just a little longer, and everything would be perfect. First, however, he needed his ear. He knocked again; a bit louder than before.
Her grip had tightened a bit on the small jar at the sound. One of these days she'd stop being so nervous. Or maybe it was just him, even she wasn't sure. Placing the container on the table as she went, the vice hurried to the door, hakama swishing about her long legs as she quickly turned the handle. "Kaku." She tried not to seem too edgy. ... He'd been a little intimidating moments before.
Show time. Kaku gave the woman a warm smile as she open the door; his blue eyes twinkling with gratitude. "Isane, I really can't thank you enough, you know..." he said, "For everything. And... About what I said earlier... Just keep things discreet and under wraps, everything will be perfectly fine..."
Isane's conviction wavered. It always did around that smile. She tried to smile back, but it was still nervous, slightly afraid. Not necessarily of him, but of what he'd said. "A- alright, just come on in, okay?" She closed the door behind him, motioning to the cot he'd occupied earlier, when he'd been sleeping off his injuries.
Kaku entered, heading to the cot. He just continued to smile at her. "This means a lot to me, you know... You've done so much for me. I know it's your job, but... you didn't have to..." He suddenly grimaced, "After I was terrible, lying to you before... You could have easily gotten your retribution by refusing to help me... Or even, refuse to help find someone to grow back my ear... But you didn't..." He looked to her, smiling, eyes warm. "You're everything I want to be, Isane."
"... I couldn't..." Isane busied herself with the container of the medication, though there was absolutely nothing to busy herself with. She was just embarrassed by the praise. "... I couldn't leave anybody, that wouldn't be... very nice..." Her shoulders had hunched over again, a habit of hers when she felt awkward. "I'm nothing to aspire too..."
Kaku reached out, taking Isane's hand gently in his own, giving her an earnest look. "To a wretch like me, you are. You represent everything pure and amazing to me... You represent what it really means to be perfect..."
"... Y-you're not a wretch..." Isane mumbled, turning her face away to hide her blush. She would be so upset, so angry, and then he would go and do things like this... made her feel... making her feel... special. "And I'm ce- certainly not perfect." But she didn't draw away, though her eyes had closed.
Kaku stroked her hand, bringing it to his face to nuzzle it lightly. "You've done more for me that anybody else in my life ever has... You saved my life, Isane. I'd easily have died without your care. To me... you're... You're just incredible."
“I-“ She was becoming increasingly more uncomfortable, trying to focus on her other hand, the one holding the jaw of biofoam. She almost shuddered at the touch, such things completely alien and strange to her, having never been in a relationship of such a nature before. Of course, she could remember almosts. Things that could have happened, but hadn’t. She’d always been duty-bound, too busy with other things to even think about entering into something like this, and now? So quickly, it seemed, was it too quickly… “… I should… fix your ear now…” Isane finally mumbled, trying to change the topic, unsure of his praise and how to receive it.
"I'm sorry..." Kaku murmured, letting go of her hand. "I... I'm probably making you uncomfortable, with my affection and all... " He said, giving her a bit of a sheepish smile. "Yes, please, do fix my ear... Sorry... again..."
“It’s…” Isane wrung her hands together for a moment, trying to settle her nerves. “It’s fine, it’s just...” She abandoned that thought, instead focusing on the task at hand. She opened the jar, staring down at the small amount of what appeared to be, by all appearances, foam. With a small shrug, she gloved one hand, scooping the foam onto two fingers and motioning for Kaku to remove his usual hat, and the bandage over where his ear had once been.
Kaku removed his cap, followed by the bandage. "So... what is this that you're using on me?" he asked, trying to break whatever awkward silence was forming. "And you're positive it will give me a new ear?"
“It’s called Biofoam.” Talking about medications and healing made her much more comfortable, and Isane slipped into the role of healer with the ease brought on by years and years, more years than Kaku had been alive, of practice. “From what I understand, it regenerates tissue. I made sure to test it, since it’s technology from a world not my own.” She waited though, until he gave the go ahead to proceed.
"Not from my world either..." Kaku said. "At least, I don't think it is... I've never heard of it..." Kaku let himself relax as Isane applied the bizarre foam to the area his ear was once located. "...it's not going to kill me, is it? I mean... I'm not from your world either..."
Isane removed her glove when she finished, waiting for the foam to begin it’s work. It had taken a few minutes for her to see any effect on her cut, so she was sure the same would hold true here. “… It shouldn’t…” Isane murmured. “Shinigami used to be human… medications affect us the same way when we go to the Human World, so…” She hadn’t thought of that…
"My human world is different from your human world though... There are no Shinigami where I'm from," Kaku explained. He was suddenly feeling a little nervous; his mind at play. What if this... foam... didn't work? What if it had a negative effect and made things worse? Lucci wouldn't like that one bit. "...I should be okay. You're right... " He said, flashing her a smile. "After all, you used your... power... or whatever... to heal me and I was fine."
“… Um…” Isane was actually worried now, but her fears were assuaged when she noticed the foam begin hardening, that had happened before. “Ah- There it goes.” She smiled, not a nervous one. She always liked seeing her patients, no matter who or what relation, getting better, even as her fears swirled about her own head, fears of making mistakes. Of losing patients to death, true death.
"Is it supposed to tingle a bit?" Kaku asked, looking to her. "It feels tingly... "
She almost laughed, he sounded so… funny. “Yeah, it’s supposed to tingle.” Isane sat back on her heels, crouched on the floor beside the cot he was sitting on. “It hardens, tingles, and then when the foam starts crumbling off it’s all done.”
Kaku nodded. "Oh. Okay... So, I'll be able to hear fine, and... It should transform when I do, right? This is very new to me, this whole regeneration concept... Sorry if I seem a bit... panicked about it..." he said, another sheepish smile. "Being a one eared giraffe isn't any fun..."
“Your hearing should be completely fine, and it should, in all likelihood, carry over when you turn into a giraffe, yes.” Isane tried to reassure him, though she stayed vague, considering she wasn’t quite sure herself, and didn’t want to make any promises. “Gonna be okay?” When it came to medicines she was the calm one, he nervous. Reversed from when the topic was affections of any sort.
Kaku nodded. "I'll be okay... " He said. "Is... is it done yet? It's not tingling anymore..."
Isane nodded, switching from the floor to standing in front of the man, leaning down to investigate. The foam had hardened, not in a shapeless blob, but in the shape of an ear. She tapped gently, feeling it crumble under her fingers, and tapped a few more times, flakes of the strange medicine falling away to reveal an ear, identical in all ways to the one he’d lost. Rubbing her thumb over the new ear, Isane smiled. “Feel that?” Had to make sure it was working.
Kaku nodded, wiggling his ears a little. "Hey, I can wiggle it too!" he said, cheerfully. "Thank you, Isane, again... I want to transform right now!... But, I might break the floor..." he murmured.
Isane smiled, drawing back now that her job was done. Close… was dangerous. “You could go outside?” She suggested, motioning to the door and the sliding glass that led out to the balcony. “You probably should test it, after all.”
"Think the balcony could support me?" he asked, wiggling his ears again; so thankful to have two of them again. "You've seen me as a giraffe, I'm horribly obese."
“… Okay, maybe we should go outside.” Isane conceded, idly running her fingers through her shortly cropped hair. “Just in case.”
Kaku stretched out a bit, heading for the glass door to the balcony. "Out sounds good," he said, opening it up. He turned to look at her, "Don't worry, you can stay in here... and, I'm not gonna transform on it. I'm gonna jump!" he said, grinning.
“Jump?” Isane followed him out to the balcony, looking down. It was quite a ways. “You’re human, though.” She asked, wondering exactly how he planned to do that.
Kaku stepped up onto the railing of the balcony, squatting down and putting his hands on the rail. "Human, yes," he said, as he slowly raise himself into a hand-stand on the rail. "I am indeed a human," he said, looking at the now upside-down Isane. "But, even humans can go beyond their expectations," he grinned, as he took one hand off the rail, maintaining perfectly balanced. "With a bit of training, even a human can do extraordinary things." With that, he used one arm to thrust himself upwards, letting himself fall face-first. He flipped himself around and... He felt like showing off. He used geppou, jumping upwards. Using nothing but the air to propel himself up; he was always a fan of this ability. He jumped above Isane's balcony, to the apartment above her's, gripping the rail for a moment before flipping off it; falling quickly to the ground. He landed, unharmed, on his feet.
Isane blinked. A human?! Doing things like that? Oh, but the humans in her world couldn’t do anything like that! She found herself leaning over the railing, beaded pieces of hair hanging in her face as she tried to make sure the man was still alright. Well… he seemed fine. He was healthy enough to show off, anyway. The shinigami smiled slightly, and with a shrug and almost a laugh, swung one leg over the railing. “You’re not the only one would can fall correctly, you know.” It was a playful tone, and she simply slid the rest of the way off, using her reiatsu to solidify under her, making it almost appear as if she were walking, not falling down to land beside him. Shinigami had tricks as well.
Kaku playfully stuck his tongue out, which rapidly grew out, turning black. His neck extended, as well as his legs as his body turned quickly into a giraffe. He leaned his head down, his tongue flicking against her cheek. "Turn into a giraffe! I dare you!"
Her awkwardness forgotten, (the giraffe distracted her attention far too much), Isane laughed, batting away his tongue gently. “Okay, okay, I can’t do that!” She smiled, reaching up on tiptoe to reach his ear, scratching. “You’ve got both.”
"I do?" Kaku asked, wiggling them both.” I do! How wonderful. Thank you again, Isane!" he said, his snout nuzzling into her a bit.
“You’re welcome…” Isane answered, unable to resist the fact that, well… he was a giraffe, and that was really, really, adorable. “It was my pleasure.”
"I should be returning home," He said, "Jyabura's probably calmed down and all by now, and I have my ear.... I'll see you again soon, Isane, alright?" Kaku's tongue came out, giving her another lick.
“Alright.” Isane smiled once more, nodding. But as she saw him off her smile slipped. … She had the sudden feeling of dread, but didn’t know why. Her hands curled into fists of the black fabric of her uniform and she turned her back, looking back up at the balcony.
… Was something wrong here?
