Summary; Soifon stops by Unohana's apartment for tea and a chat.
Log;
Soifon had slowly made her way to the other captain's residence. She was grateful that the help was offered, but she was still nervous. She had brought a bag of tea she found in the temple, thinking it would be polite to offer something for the other woman's hospitality. Sheepishly she knocked on the door, staring at the ground.
Unohana opened the door and stepped back, allowing Soifon enough room to enter. "Good afternoon, Soifon-taichou," she said, closing the door behind her. "I've put the tea out on the balcony. I thought it would be nice to talk outside."
Soifon bowed respectfully and held out the bag for Unohana. "I thank you for seeing me today, Unohana-taichou." She followed behind the other woman, eyes rarely leaving the floor, clearly lost in thought. She hadn't been able to think about much else all day.
"My door is always open if you need to talk, Soifon-taichou." Unohana inclined her head took the proffered tea. She extended her arm to the door that led to the balcony, allowing Soifon to go first.
Soifon carefully sat down, not wanting any damage to come to the kimono she had been placed in that day. She sat and looked out the balcony, hands placed in her lap, as she waited for the other woman to join her.
The healer knelt across from the other shinigami, the tea tray between them. She poured them both steaming cups of tea, ensuring Soifon had hers before taking a drink from her own. "So what did you wish to talk about?"
For some reason, the other captain's presence was relaxing, and Soifon felt that she could be completely open about her problem. She took a sip of the tea to calm her nerves a bit more, and then answered, "I fear I may be having relationship problems."
Unohana lay the porcelain cup on the floor in front of her. "There seems to be a lot of that going around, I'm afraid. I'm here to listen, Soifon-taichou, and if I can, help."
Soifon nodded. "Shortly after arriving here, I...I confessed to Yoruichi. And we have been dating since. She expressed that...that she was worried she'd hurt me. And she was worried about getting into a serious relationship because of it. She also explained that her and Urahara-san have had a history together. And...he is here now."
"Are you worried that Urahara-san’s arrival will complicate things between yourself and Shihouin-san?" Unohana asked, refilling her cup of tea.
"Yes...I am worried about that. And I know it must be troubling her, but I don't know if it's my business to address it." She shifted nervously in her seat, taking another sip of the tea.
"I think..." Unohana paused for a moment. "I think you have a right to know if Urahara-san's presence will affect your relationship. If she still has feelings for him, then it may. And if she does, you can not ask her to choose, but you should know."
Soifon nodded again, Unohana's words striking her as very rational, even if they weren't what she wanted to hear. "I...I understand." She tried to breathe, to tell herself everything would be okay. But she couldn't take it. Tears in her eyes, she scooted around next to the other captain and leaned against her shoulder, hoping she wouldn't mind.
"I'm sorry, Soifon-taichou." The healer wrapped a comforting arm around Soifon. "As much as it may be troubling to Shihouin-san, I know this is difficult for you as well. I wish there was something I could do for you, but for now I suppose my tea and listening is all I can do."
Most shinigami knew Soifon for her hardened exterior, the reputation the captain of the special forces should have. And here she was breaking down on the shoulder of a fellow officer. None of that mattered to her. Slowly her tears began to run down her face uncontrolled. Between a couple muffled sobs, she mumbled, "Thank you, Unohana-taichou."
Unohana retrieved a napkin from the tea tray and handed it to the other shinigami. "It will be alright, Soifon-taichou," she said, hoping it would be. As a healer, it was always difficult to see another person in pain, whether physical or emotional. "Things will work themselves out."
Soifon took the napkin and wiped her eyes, slowly regaining control over herself. Once she felt she was fine again, she reached out and took the cup of tea again, leaning off of the shoulder long enough to drink the soothing liquid, then leaned back down, finding comfort in Unohana's embrace. "I hope so."
"There now, Soifon-taichou. Everything will be alright," Unohana said, smiling softly, trying to reassure the other captain. "Just talk to her."
Soifon couldn't help but smile back. "I will. I will talk to her." She finished off the cup of tea and stood, bowing low before the other woman. "Thank you very much for your time, Unohana-taichou."
Unohana stood and returned the bow. She gathered up the tray and stepped back inside. "You are welcome to come back anytime, Soifon-taichou."
Soifon followed her inside and then paused at the door for a second. Looking back, she smiled again, feeling as if a great weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She was still worried, but at the same time she felt that everything would turn out alright in the end. Talking to Unohana had turned out to be an excellent idea. With another low bow she left and quietly closed the door behind her.
