When; Jan 25, evening
Rating; PG for talk of begetting heirs
Characters; Alucard [
thekingofpain] and D [
favored_son]
Summary; Still in a rather generous and cheerful mood, D brings breakfast to his father and has a nice little chat with him about girls and the future. Meanwhile, Left Hand begs Alucard for mercy.
Log;
It was extremely unusual for D to be openly content, let alone cheerful. He would have found it disconcerting, except he couldn't. He'd been in a wonderful mood all day. The dhampir actually hummed an old song from the Frontier as he moved down the hall to his father's room and knocked lightly on the door.
"Enter," Alucard called. He had felt D moving about the apartment, had felt D's . . rather odd mood. Perhaps the boy had ingested some human Prozac and it had taken an effect. No matter, he waited for the boy to enter.
"Good evening, Father," D greeted brightly as he pushed the door open. With his free hand, he balanced a tray bearing a wine bottle and glass. "How are you today?"
"Surprised at your sudden change of mood. . and verbosity," Alucard replied, reclining further in his chair, crossing his leg from knee to ankle. "What has brought on such a change. .?"
"It would appear to be the curse of the day," D informed him as he set the tray down. "I brought Mother breakfast this morning. It only seemed fair I do the same for you."
"Oh? You bring it out of fairness and not of want to bring it?" Alucard asked, arching a brow but making no move to touch the tray. He knew the boy had ever favored his mother, but enjoyed teasing him anyway.
D rolled his eyes and removed the seal from the bottle. "You know that's not what I meant. I wouldn't have gone to the trouble if I didn't want to."
The elder vampire laughed, one side of his mouth pulling up into a smirk, "Such a good boy. Come, have a drink with your father now that you are in this good a mood. Perhaps you should find a lady friend."
Rather than argue the point of drinking blood, D settled comfortably in a chair and smiled indulgently. "I've found more lady friends than you think. I simply haven't pursued relationships with them. The timing wasn't right."
"Oh? And when will the timing be right, my boy? You are thousands of years old and need to keep the Hellsing line going. ." Alucard replied, slightly amused at D's predicament, wondering if he really would drink the blood.
"Probably never," D admitted, apparently unconcerned. "I can't trust myself. I'm certain my parasite would have a field day if I tried, though."
"Your parasite would have a field day if you turned off the Mr. Positive act," Left Hand grumbled. D's chipper mood had been funny for the first thirty seconds, but after being stuck with him all day, the parasite was starting to feel ill.
"Hush, Mister Jiggles, let D enjoy his good mood," Alucard replied indulgently. Then added, "Why can't you trust yourself, D? You are a strong boy, your mother's son. If you wished to be with a nice, big breasted human girl whom you loved, I know you would do well in not eating her."
The creature in D's hand mumbled something intelligible, but then fell silent as directed. It was all well and good for Alucard to be amused by their predicament. He wasn't attached to D's nervous system.
"You shouldn't push, Father," D said mildly. "It's not just that I'm a dhampir. Hunters rarely have families, and for good reason. Since I fully intend to be a Hunter until the day I die, I doubt I will father children." Almost as an afterthought, he added, "The blood is getting cold."
"Of course," Alucard replied, then took a sip. "I do not mind it cold. Though my favorite is warmed and with those little marshmallows in it. But I digress. Even if you are not set to raise it, you must father a child. There must be Hellsing in the world."
D shrugged. "Then perhaps you should encourage Mother to have at least one human child. I don't think I'd mind. Of course, it would be hard for that branch of the family to carry on the mission after the Nobles wipe all knowledge of how to destroy a vampire from the human mind, but I'm sure there are ways around that."
"I would never allow a vampire to harm a Hellsing child. Though it would not be fully human," Alucard replied with a fanged smirk. There was no way he would have another person touch his master. That, and, he had always wanted a girl child as well.
"Then you should be helping me kill them in my time," his son rebuked him lightly. Then the dhampir grinned. "I can't even begin to imagine how badly that would confuse the competition. They all think you're dead. Of course, I know better." He snorted. "A stake through the heart indeed ... "
"That would only kill the weakest of the full vampires," Alucard replied, then leaned forward, reaching out to stroke D's hair. "I will change the future. I will not leave you alone, my son."
"I would like that." It did not require a curse to rouse that sentiment in D, only to get him to voice it. "But you still aren't getting grandchildren through me."
"Then I would ever treat you as a boy." The vampire chuckled. "You shall have a sister. She will be the one to have grandchildren." He rather liked that idea. Now it was a matter of convincing Integral of it.
"I'm ten thousand years old, Father. I can take care of myself."
"No he can't," Left Hand interjected immediately. "Look, Dracula, or Alucard, or whatever you want me to call you ... Mr. Sunshine here is getting painfully annoying. The endorphins are starting to give me a headache. Can I move in with you until the curse passes?"
Alucard's upper lip curled back in amusement, "Yes, I would put that mouth of yours to a very good use." Then chuckled, "Can you not subsist in your own form for a bit?" the vampire asked.
Then turned back to D, "You can take care of yourself, but you should not have to."
"I don't want to!" Left Hand complained. "It's cold out there ... Not that you'd be much better, since you're dead."
Ignoring his partner's pleas, D actually took a moment to help himself to some blood before answering his father. "I like being a hunter. Really, my life's not so bad. I have a family that wants me, I'm stronger than other dhampirs, and I get paid extremely well for what I do."
"Would you like a sweater?" And with a gesture like sleight of hand, held up a smallish sweater in the size of the parasite. Emblazoned across the front was "mister jiggles."
The vampire inclined his head, "But aren't you lonely, my son?"
Left Hand withdrew, muttering about vampires and the questionable sanity of D's entire family. He'd just tolerate the endorphins until midnight came around.
"What makes you think I'm lonely?" D asked. "I have my partner and my horses. I'm never actually alone."
"You aren't getting laid, boy? Why shouldn't you be?" Alucard replied, then leaned back in his chair. "Are you? A horse is not much company, after all."
Another shrug from D. "People practically throw themselves at me, but I'm not really interested. There's more to life than sex, Father."
"And what about companionship?" the vampire pressed. He knew that there was more to partnership than sex, after all, and was attempting to prove that to Integral.
D smiled indulgently and reached across the table to give his father's shoulder an affectionate squeeze. "It's nice that you want me to settle down with someone beautiful, Father. I really do appreciate that, but even with this curse in effect, you aren't going to change my mind."
"Then you shall have me to bother you. I am a lot of work when on your side. And you must put out an effort to keep me in check. It is your duty as a Hellsing," Alucard replied, half smiling to the squeeze.
"Sorry," the hunter replied, "but I won't be renewing the seals. It's just too awkward. You're my father. I can't have you running around calling me 'Master'."
"Then do not renew my seals, but keep on your toes," The vampire replied. "And understand that sometimes locking me away is good for my mind. Sort of like hitting the reset button."
"When I get back to my time, I'll see about locking you in a nice castle cellar if I can find you," D assured him. He stood and stretched. "I think I'm going for a ride. It's such a pleasant night, and the horse hasn't been out much. I really should give the poor animal a name after all he's done for me."
Alucard inclined his head, "You could name it Mister Jiggles." He was rather fond of that name for some reason.
"I think not. The parasite would get confused."
"Very true. Good evening, D," the vampire replied, inclining his head.
"Good evening, Father. Enjoy the rest of your breakfast." And with that, D actually breezed out of the room (there was no other word to describe his exit), humming a song under his breath.
