Summary; They meet at Café Juliet and discuss the possibility of sharing a home.
Log;
Kira Sakuya entered the fully restored Café Juliet. It was quite full; the aesthetically appealing room and furniture attracted quite a lot of people, and from the windows, you could see the City's main square. He'd figured it would be a nice enough place to meet up with the little angel he's offered to live with, since there was no way he'd let the poor thing continue to live in the streets, where things like that with the triangle head or simply the more depraved kind of human might be lurking. It was great how you got a lotof things for free in this place, and thanks to that he'd be able toorder a drink for the girl.
He looked around and found he didn't have the luck of finding a free space at the window; instead, there was one free table in the middle ofthe room, so he sat down there. Idly, he lit himself one of the cigarettes he'd gotten hold of yesterday and took the menu from its holder while shooting a furtive glance around the room.
Tiara pushed open the door to the café; she had hurried from where she had been wandering to meet Kira there. She had never been in the café before then so she was surprised by the quiet murmur of the voices in the room and even more surprised by the way their minds seemed to follow suit. It was nicethat the voices didn’t ring out so loudly as they sometimes did.
She looked around the room, having trouble seeing over people since she was so small, but she quickly spotted Kira, identifying him by his aura. She slipped around tables, now self conscious about how she looked. She had done her bestto scrub the dirt off her face with snow before arriving leaving her nose and cheeks pink but nothing could be done about her dress. Shepushed those thoughts aside as she approached Kira.
“Ah, hello.” She said quietly.
The little voice greeting him didn't really surprise him, though he noted the shyness that shone through very clearly. He averted his eyes from the menu and spotted the little girl in front of him; no more than a human of five or six, really, but he had a faint knowledge of auras and hers was strong, and very intelligent eyes adorned her round, pink face. Her dress was torn and dirty though, and he suspected it was the only means of clothing she possessed.
Kira decided he should be polite to the young girl. "Hello yourself. Please, take a seat." And he stood up to drag the chair out from beneath the table so she could sit on it.
Tiara couldn’t help but smile at the kind gesture as she pulled herself up into the chair.“Thank you.” She said looking up at Kira, he really was so much taller than her. She looked around the café again, unused to such an atmosphere. She had visited the cathedral but it was different. This place was welcoming.
She turned her attention back to Kira, unsure of what to say. People in the city had been kind to her before but she had never gotten an offer to live with someone. It was strange, she unnerved most adults, except maybe Lady Alexiel. But somehow she felt she could trust Kira.
Oh my, he already found the kid cute. Now since when had people started getting to him so quickly? Kira let out a quiet sigh, then took his own seat again and faced Tiara. He allowed a small smile to creep upon his features. "Want a drink? You can get one for free here." He laid the menu out in front of her, then remembered the cigarette hanging off a corner of his mouth. Quickly, he took it out and pressed its lit end into the ashtray until it was sufficiently put out, then laid it down and watched the last tendrils of smoke rise into the air. Wouldn't do to pester a child with the smoke. He thought he'd have to finally get rid of the stupid addiction, but he knew it wasn't going to be easy.
Finally, he returned his attention to the girl across the table, looking her in the eyes. He wasn't being especially open, but sincere. He wanted her to know she could trust him, with her life if it must be. He'd never been one to hesitate in risking his own life for someone he deemd worth protecting. That this might be a result of something such as a low sense of self-worth was a matter he didn't like thinking about too often. He shook the thought away and spoke again. "So have you come to a decision regarding my offer?" She'd said yes, in a way, but he wanted to make sure.
Tiara reached out a thin arm to slide the menu close enough to read, carefully looking over the options. She didn’t understand half the names of things. Probably for the best, coffee would be bad for one so small. There was hot chocolate, she’d never tasted chocolate before and was curious. But in the end settled on orange juice. She still remembered the bag she had bought weeks ago…
She had been watching Kira as well, trying to understand him better. His aura was different than what she was used to; she was still working out understanding it. She looked up as he spoke and nodded. “I have thought about it. And I think I’ll accept your offer.” She paused. “If it’s not too much trouble for you, that is…” She was still nervous, she didn’t want Kira to be like the adults from back in heaven.
He gave a small laugh. Oh my, that kid was shy! He'd have to do something about that, he decided. "I wouldn't have made the offer if that was the case, now would I?" And now he gave her one of his more or less rare genuine, full-fledged smiles. But maybe he should elaborate his point a bit. "I'm kind of used to the protecting thing, and I guess... well", he hesitated, searching words he'd never needed before, because he was being so unusually honest, and a small part of him was outraged at that, "I guess it's something I wouldn't want to give up so quickly."
He wasn't smiling now. It was more likely that he was looking rather solemn, in fact. Speaking of this made him realize, once again, what he had lost. Sense and love of his life; and was it disturbing that both of that had been represented by one person?
If things had been going his way, he'd probably have stayed at her side forever. Well. He had no choice but to stray now.
Kira looked at the girl once again and made a decision. Having made the offer to share a flat with her, he would from now on dedicate his energies towards making a damn fine woman out of her, as much as he, being a man, could do that.
A waitress finally came up to their table, a small notepad at theready. He ordered a coke for himself, then asked Tiara what she wanted.
Tiara couldn’t help but stare as Kira smiled so genuinely, even without reading his aura she could tell that it was a true smile in every sense. As he explained Tiara listened, paying attention to everything. She wanted to learn whatever she could about Kira. His wanting to protect her was a surprise, she remembered that he had told her he was a spirit of a sword. That would make sense then that he would want to protect things…
She watched as his expression changed to a serious one and the little angel didn’t dare speak. She didn’t want to interrupt whatever chain of thought was running through Kira’s mind. Instead she watched his aura as it fluctuated.
When the waitress approached and asked for their orders, she quietly ordered the orange juice and then looked back to Kira. “I guess I should thank you then.” Her smile was quite earnest as she spoke. “You’re being so nice to me, not many adults are like that.”
Okay, so orange juice, by now, made him think of Rosiel. He shoved that thought somewhere into a dusty corner of his mind VERY quickly. But he also had to think about how Rosiel seemed intent on hurting the girl... Tiara. He didn't know the reason for that, but then Rosiel generally liked being mean to people, if only to show that he could.
He took his time to answer. "Adults sometimes are less apt at seeing the truth than children." He thought of Setsuna as he said that. Setsuna, who was growing out of childhood by human standards, but had along way to go toward mental adulthood. Setsuna, whose purity outshone most other things in the life Nanatsusaya had lent from Kira Sakuya.
And Tiara was much the same in that last aspect, really.
They made Kira feel a bit dirty, and a bit envious. But most of all they appealed to his protective streak, and that was why he was here.
"So, when we are done here, shall we have a look at the apartment buildings? Or would you like to live somewhere else? There are people living in the cathedral, after all, though that's the one place I'd really like to avoid, if you catch my drift."
Tiara nodded in agreement with Kira’s statement. “Adults were afraid of me because I knew their secrets when they thought of them around me. Those more powerful than me were safe, but they were still scared.” It still seem ridiculous to her, the way the adults had reacted to her power. She banished those thoughts from her mind though, she didn’t want them to taint such a good time for her.
“An apartment sounds nice. I don’t think I would be very welcome in the cathedral.” She said as the waitress came, setting their drinks before them. For a moment the normally serious look to her face vanished entirely, replaced with a child like glee at the orange juice. She may have been more mature than most her size but she was still a little girl at heart.
Now who could help a smile creeping on their face at the sight of such glee in a child's face, anyway? Kira was entirely helpless against the attack of cute, that much was sure. "I hope the juice's good." He himself sipped on his coke, which tasted as coke should taste. He had a slight weakness for the stuff, as Sakuya had loved it.
"Well, I hear there are other more extravagant places to live, but an appartment should do. We'll be sure to have a bathroom there, something you, pardon me saying this, really should make an acquaintance with." He gave her a grin as a sign that he didn't mean it to be hurtful. "I bet it's something you'll like. We shall get you new clothes, too."
Tiara took a sip of the orange juice happily, enjoying the sweet tang of it. Before she had come to the city she had never tasted an orange, let alone orange juice but she loved the taste. She pulled away from the straw and smiled warmly. “Yes, it’s very good.” The small girl blushed as Kira pointed out her need of a bath, she was well aware of her current state of dirtiness.
“Yes, a bath would be nice.” She said honestly, now picking at the edges of her tattered dress absently as she took another sip of her juice. She knew Kira meant no harm with his comments, mostly because she knew truly and honestly, she needed a bath more than anything. And truthfully, she was sick of being so dirty.
He only watched silently as she sipped her juice and made a very joyful impression. Briefly, he reflected on just what he was getting himself into. Part of him insisted it just knew this wasn't going to go well. After all, he was practically manoevering himself into a fatherly role, and really, Kira Sakuya and fathers? Of course, up to now he'd only been on the other end of such a relationship, but still he wasn't sure whether such closeness was something he'd be comfortable with. Of course, they wouldn't need to be very close, could be nothing but roommates, but he feared he might just get too attached to the girl all by himself, because he was malleable like that.
That was just one part of him, however, and a person is such a complex thing that there may be completely contradicting currents of thought within them at any given time.
Thus another part of him insisted that it would go well, and furthermore, that now he knew the little girl and the circumstances, he couldn't very well leave her alone. A third part spoke up, wondering whether he would save all the poor little children in the world if he could. The answer was definite: no, he wouldn't, because he wasn't that generous. There were only always a few select he would allow himself to care for. This girl just happened to be one of those.
So he watched her drink her juice and got back to the matters at hand. "So, shall we go look for an apartment right after we finish our drinks? As far as I know, the aparment buildings are situated, hmm, clockwise around the carousel." The wording and hesitation were quite intentional; he wanted to signalize that he had gotten a notion of that area's suspiciousness.
Tiara nodded, setting down her juice glass again as she listened to Kira ask about apartments. She had thought it odd that the builds were like the numbers of a clock. Maybe the buildings themselves represented the countdown everyone spoke of?
Tiara didn't know for sure, but it was definitely an odd arrangement. "Looking for an apartment sounds good." She agreed with a nod. "What building should we choose?"
Kira took a gulp of his coke, then spoke again. "I don't care. How about we look at them and you decide which one you'd like to live in?" And smiled at her once again. Deep down, he was still a little unsure about this decision, but it did feel kind of right. Besides, he was used to being responsible for other people's well-being, after all. He finished his drink in another gulp and waited for Tiara to finish hers.
