Log;

Juno had just finished up completing a turn on the climbing wall. She needed and enjoyed the workout, and could only hope she would meet him soon. First date in the city. And this was just to meet somebody she'd spoken to on the network. It just seemed if any one had notes on the supernatural world, he might. From what he had said, anyway. He'd been there longer and apparently this stuff was of especial interest to him. With monsters loose in the underground cleaning house might eventually become necessary.
---

Special Agent Fox Mulder was in definite 'on the clock' mode when he left the house.
Never mind his badge meant nothing in this city; in fact meant nothing in the world from whence he'd come anymore, either; it was nobody's business he had left the bureau on the run.
To him this place was a new lease on life, and a chance to begin his career over. There was irrefutable proof of the supernatural here. It was merely up to him to pick things to do investigations on.
The cult had taken up far too much of his time, and seemed to be dying back on their own.
Perhaps Juno's claim of seeing troglydytes would amount to something new and more interesting. She certainly looked interesting, anyway.
He arrived at the gym, and paced. She'd said she'd be outside at...oh. He was fifteen minutes early. Well, here's hoping she was an earlybird, too.
----

She stepped out of the gym. Her climbing pick hung from her belt. She was fresh out of the shower, her hair still soaked .There'd been no place to shower where she camped in the underground. She gave Agent Mulder,a quick look over.

“Your picture does not do you justice.”
---

He glanced down at himself, idly wondering what she'd seen to say that. Was it a good comment, or a bad comment? He smiled sheepishly, and looked her over. His eyes settled a little too long on her chest. She hadn't dried off as well as she could have, as her shirt clung to her. It left little to his imagination, anyway.
"Is that your pickaxe, or are you happy to see me?"

He hefted his own little gymbag. "I brought some things. I thought maybe you could tell me if they'll stop me from falling to a screaming death? The guy in the supply shop seemed a bit too preoccupied to really answer any questions.I think he was in love with a snowboard, the way he kept staring at it."
---

“Let’s see what you've got. I had to kill a few things down there to get out. It’s not a pleasant sight.
I have flashlights, my pick, ropes, adjustable clamps, and two bag lunches.Hope you like salami.”
She took a look at his gear. "How much you weigh?" she paused, rummaging through his gear. "Great a med kit, don't leave home without one.
Flares, batteries, rope is a bit short but should do."
I do not like these safety clamps, those would work for a lesser cave but with some of the dropoffs? They may may not support your weight halfway down. I got spare ones you can use. Leather gloves! Very good. Those will save your tail."
---

Mulder stopped breathing for a moment at the 'let's see what you've got', but then she'd reached for his gymbag and he remembered to start again.
The girl went through his things like a jackal at a carrion dig, accessing them and clearly finding most of his equipment wanting. It was a bit demasculating.

"Salami? uh...no..I'm kind of more of pie man." he joked weakly. The joke fell short, as he should have known it would.
----

"Pie is pretty hard to keep intact when going below ground." She'd caught on to the joke.Agent Mulder was not bad-looking at all. If this was a date she'd go for a second one.
Still, her mind was a bit out there. Losing the girls the way she did still bothered her.
She did not want Agent Mulder to fall to his death.

"The salesman tried to make a foot of my hair the price for a med kit. Since when does hair act as currency?

"I can make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as well if you really fancy something sweet." she stated. "oh, and forgot to add to the list: granola bars and anything small we can carry." She pulled out the healthy snacks.
----

Mulder pretended to try to bite one of the granola bars in her hand.
"I brought some snacks, actually. You just didn't dig far enough past the dirty socks and things I guess."
He chuckled.
"Well. Now that we know my equipment isn't hopelessly amateur, how about we make for the underground? I take it the caves are a long way past all the 'civilized' parts, and even that goes on for a few miles."
He wanted to make sure she was avoiding routes that took her past Immacolata or Xuchilbara's territories. Better safe than sorry.
----

She laughed a moment. "Good, you're not a hopeless amateur after all. We're going to need to be careful. There are likely to be spots of unsure footing, many more drop offs in the areas no one has been to. And of course there may be monsters."
Juno was scared there could be crawlers here as well. If she could arrive, why couldn't they?

----

Mulder sort of winced when he realized she'd been expecting a lost cause. Had his reputation here in the city preceded him? He shouldn't have cared, except he'd been batting zero the whole of his stay here.
His whole life back in his own time had turned out in the end, as a failed career. He was a good agent, and almost always solved the cases he was assigned. BUT, as his interest had turned to extraterrestrials and other unsolved phenomenon his credibility had slipped, dipped, dropped to nil.

Quite the opposite of his problem here. Here there was no need to prove the supernatural; it was all over, commonplace. What had become impossible for him to do now was crack even a single investigation; one human with a gun was nothing against some of these creatures.

If he could just do well with this, at least impress this girl that he was a worthwhile climbing partner he'd feel he'd had one good day, anyway.

If he could find something in the underground about the cult, or about the monsters Juno claimed to have seen, that would be even better.

If the girl ended up liking him, well....that would be best of all.
