The moment the door closed after Isane, Rangiku sunk back down onto the couch, heedless of her newly healed injuries. She was still in disbelief of what Isane had told her, even though she knew it couldn't be false. Her head drooped to rest in her upheld hands, shaking a little from side to side. Honestly, she was happy, but she didn't know what to say to anyone about it... especially Gin.

Off was right, and he didn't want to pry but it pained him to see her hurting so much. He watch her expression, watched her unable to catch his eye. After sitting in silence for a few moments, waking himself up and gathering his thoughts, he asked "did Isane have any ideas?"

She finally looked at him. "Yeah, but it's just speculation. She went ahead and checked everything while she was here... just to make sure..." Her voice trailed off as she looked back down, this time at their joined hands.

"'s better than nothin', at least then we have an idea." He squeezed her hand as she stared down, as if he wouldn't let go as long as she wanted. But she seemed rather resistant to talk. "So what'd she say? She find anythin'?"

She nodded slowly, emotions swinging between two opposites. ".... that we don't need meddlesome angels to have a child." Fear mingled with the startled happiness she'd been feeling since Isane had told her.

Gin was dumbfounded, caught completely off guard. The thought of them having a child was not the most important thing on his mind right now, but it was certainly not unwelcome news. He turned and placed his free hand on her stomach, staring, not knowing what to think. "Really?" he asked, no other words forming in his mind.

The fear won out with his reaction, but she tried to keep it from getting out of control like she had the night before. ".... 'm sorry... this isn't what you wanted to hear, is it?" She pulled her hand from his and dropped it to rest in her lap with its twin.

He left his hand on her stomach for a second longer before dropping it down on top of hers, leaning over and kissing her on the cheek, wrapping his arm around her waist and holding her close. Leaning his head against hers, he pulled his mouth back and whispered, "are you kiddin'? We're gonna be...parents."

"Yeah... we are. You're not... upset?" She was finally looking at him, eyes steady.

Lifting one of her hands with his, he pressed hers lightly against her stomach. He stared back at her, into her eyes, gaze unfaltering. "Ran...o' course I ain't upset."

Her eyes caught his and there was no way she could look away from them. The smile that had been so rarely seen the last few days finally showed itself as she leaned up, brushing a kiss against his lips. ".... I was worried."

She'd been worried a lot recently, but that didn't matter, not now. She was happy, and...and they were really going to be parents. He caught her lips for a second, and then leaned his forehead against hers, dropping his eyes to stare down at their hands, at where their future baby now resided, and lightly rubbed it using her own hand.

Her gaze followed his, down to where their hands rested low on her belly. The smile grew a little more as she felt the fabric of her robe against her hand as Gin rubbed it there. "I thought she was joking when she told me..."

"Good news is hard t' believe sometimes." He noticed her smile out of the corner of his eye. Good. Whatever was wrong...was a little better, at least for now. "So...how's it feel, knowin' you're goin' t' be a mother?"

She closed her eyes with a soft sigh. "I guess it really hasn't sunk in yet. Scared.... and nervous and happy... a little of everything, really."

He chuckled and stared around the room. "Y' know, we might have t' ask Cobray t' add another room on."

The smile fell away when Cobray was mentioned, her fight with Ingram fresh on her mind. "... nah. We got enough room. Besides.... 'm not sure he'll be willing."

Well that was short-lived. Something was definitely wrong, if just mentioning Cobray's name was upsetting her. He didn't have time to be happy for their child, not when she was like this. "Ran...what else did Isane say? She have any clue why you're breakin' down?"

She loosened her hand from his and twined her arms around his neck. "Some... Momo told me something was going on with someone in the city and it ended up with their all their emotions being shunted out to different people in the city... sounds like I got a share of fear from her." She shook her head and sighed.

He frowned, not liking this side of her, but it made a lot of sense. Fear...she was normally stronger than this, but now nothing could slip past her. "I'll look into it for ya'. I'll get one o' them t' come fix it." He brought a hand to her head and pet her consolingly.

With another sigh, she leaned forward enough to rest her forehead against his shoulder. "No... I can do it. I can't let this rule me..."

"If what you're sayin' is true, this ain't normal fear. I know how stron' you are." He held her gently against him, stroking his hand through her flowing hair.

His touch soothed the odd anxiety that had been growing in her over the last few days. She turned her head enough to allow her to nuzzle at the side of his neck before pressing a kiss there.

"Maybe... soon, this'll all be gone and done with... "

Rather than saying anything else and risking triggering whatever was wrong, her held her closer in response, planting a kiss on her forehead and leaning his head against hers.
