Log;

Chris waited alone at the center of a clearing, head bowed, hair unkempt and covering her face. Her armor, once a gleaming silver, was curiously pitch black. Like ebony. The True Rune on her right hand, underneath layers of cloth and armor, whispered softly to her, slowly, like trickling water, but she shut it out. She had no time for that, no patience.

She was waiting for something else now, something far more worthy of her patience.

Stepping carefully around the fallen branches and uprisen roots that comprised the forest floor, the slight girl with obsidian hair made her way through the foliage towards the person who had called her. Violet eyes scanned carefully for any signs of danger, for although she remained innocent and still naive about many things, the events with Itachi-sama had taught her something about her own safety. Which was also the precise reason why she couldn't help but wish she'd thought to wake Archer. But..he'd looked so peaceful that she hadn't been able to bring herself to disturb his rest. I guess...I could always call him.. Glancing at the markings on her hand, she contemplated the spells before shaking her head vehemently. No, she couldn't do that, wouldn't do that. Doing that would mean using up one of those spells. And that was something she wasn't willing to do. Finally reaching a small clearing, she spied the silver-haired woman leaning against the tree. "Are you....the one who needed help?"

At the sound of the child's voice, Chris slowly lifted her head up to gaze at her visitor with her eyes, turned red by the tainted shard. She smiled gently, mimicking her older self, and nodded. "Mmm. Yes," she said quietly. "I...desperately need help."

Something in the back of her mind went off, like warning bells chiming softly, but she paid it little heed. Someone needed help, help that only she could give. And so she edged closer, kneeling down beside the figure in the black armour, violet eyes filled with concern. "What's wrong?"

Chris looked away and allowed herself to slide down. Her armor made chinking sounds and despite their weight, she felt no discomfort. Tears formed in her eyes -- water, she controlled it. Something like tears was easy for the rune, and though it grumbled it complied and told her it had patience. And those tears rolled down her cheeks, not salty, not real, but who was there to tell?

She said nothing. Let the tears speak for themselves.

Words weren't necessary for Hotaru. The pain was evident in the red eyes that looked tear-rimmed up at her. Their colour might have been worrisome to some people, but to Hotaru, who had spent time with the scarlet-eyed Akatsuki, the shade was merely another colour. With a gentle smile, Hotaru simply draped her arms around the older woman in a soft hug. "It's alright....where does it hurt?"

"My body... my heart--" Chris paused and closed her eyes. "I am lonely, child. Will you... join me?" When she opened her eyes, she stared right into the girl's purple ones. "I cannot wait... any longer for any one who will... love me. An eternity is too long."

She started to pull away, eyes narrowing slightly. This was...not what she'd expected. But then, as red eyes met hers, her resistance began to fade. Eyes like winter violets relaxed, their expression glazing over slightly. "Someone who....will love you?"

Chris smiled, gently once more, though something far more sinister lurked within her eyes. From a distance, the sound of a single crow cawing could be heard. "Yes, child. I can no longer age--but I cannot wait.... you can be mine and mine alone, my family, my friend, my love. You will grow old and die... mine. You want to be with me, don't you?"

A small face nodded slowly, the motion stiff and measured like that of a doll or a puppet. "With you....be with you. Just you...just me..."

Chris reached out, pulling down the girl for a tight hug. She ran her hand through the child's hair, like a mother to her daughter. "Yes, child... your heart will be..." Crows appeared overhead, circling them, and as she finished her sentence, they swooped down, covering them fully. "...mine."

When the crows were done, they flew away, taking Hotaru's heart with them; a small, red crystal.

As the crows vanished into a whirl of soot-hued feathers, Hotaru pulled back from the hug, expression blank and empty. She glanced around her, as though unaware of her surroundings, standing up stiffly in a robotic manner.

Smiling proudly, Chris knelt down on one knee and took Hotaru's hand in hers. "Child, I thank you for your heart." She pressed a gentle kiss on it and then stood. She pressed another kiss on her forhead. "Return, child. Their patience must wear thin too... tell them nothing of this. We are together, but only in secret."

Hotaru nodded softly before turning and heading back through the forest like a lifeless doll.
