[RP Log] Iruka and Obito

When; Yesterday? Day before? Recently.
Rating; G
Characters; Iruka [[livejournal.com profile] surf_and_turf] and Obito [[livejournal.com profile] im_notdead]
Summary; Obito makes Iruka ramen and they talk things out. I suck at summaries, whut.
Log;

To say that Iruka was nervous would be an understatement, though he kept trying to talk himself out of it. He was 25 years old, he shouldn't be afraid of someone half his age. Though, that someone was his lover's best friend, and who held a lot of power over said relationship. He wanted Obito's approval, quite badly, and not because of the hiatus on the physical side of his relationship, but because Obito meant so much to Kakashi.

Entering the kitchen, Iruka sat down at the table and offered Obito a smile. As a show of trust, he clamped down on any desire he had to freak out about Obito's methods for making ramen. But really, boiling water wasn't that difficult, was it? "So," he said, trying to figure out how to start the conversation. "You like ramen, Obito?"

Scratching his head and wondering just exactly how much time had passed since he set the water to boil, and where he'd set down his flavor packet, Obito nodded as he dropped to his knees to search the floor. "Well, yeah. Who doesn't?" He laughed to himself, smiling to the floor as he found his packet of flavor. He'd never really made ramen by himself before, how exciting! It almost distracted him from how he'd told Iruka that he'd tell him a lot about Kakashi.

Bringing that up in his own mind, however, brought it right back to him, and he tensed up whilst dumping the flavoring into the water - was he supposed to put the noodles in first? "You like Kakashi, Iruka?", he muttered quietly into the steam, and then backed out because it hurt a little. "Why?"

Deciding it would be best to just not watch while Obito made the ramen, and eat up every bite, no matter what it tasted like, Iruka just nodded. "Yeah, I suppose you're right. I always liked the stuff, but with Naruto...he brought eating ramen to an art form." And caused quite a dent in Iruka's wallet in the process, though he didn't really mind - too much.

Startled by Obito's question, Iruka's gaze fixed on the scarred wooden tabletop while he gathered his thoughts. "Ah, yes...I do. Though, I suppose you can say that it wasn't always the case? He is the jounin sensei of some of my ex-students, and, well...we didn't always see eye to eye." That was the understatement of the century, really, but he didn't want to make things sound too bad, as he didn't know what Obito would think.

Obito scratched at his head again, idly wondering if there were bugs in that garden he'd been laying in earlier that day, and tilted his head back as he applied his eye drops -- it didn't matter using them on his left eye, he couldnt see anything out of it anyway, but it was.. It was a habit. "Still really weird to think about Kakashi as a sensei to anyone, but, he really was by the book when we were kids. Or, uh, he was a kid. I'm still a kid."

Gosh, why did home-made ramen take so long? It didn't take this long at the shops, did it? "Always on time, maybe even before time sometimes. I don't really know 'cause I was, uh, late at least a few times." He smiled to Iruka, then directed his attention back to his ramen and pouted at it. "Then how come you guys got together? You don't seem right for each other."

On time? Early? Kakashi? The idea was so foreign to Iruka that he chuckled softly. "Well, there's one big difference between the Kakashi you knew and how he is now. I think if he was on time to anything, there would be collective heart failure throughout the entire village from the surprise of it. I'm not sure how by the book he is now as opposed to before, but he does put a lot of emphasis on teamwork. In fact, team 7 was the first genin team he ever passed."

Iruka froze, smile stuck in place on his face as he tried to control his reaction. Obito wasn't deliberately setting out to hurt him or anything, he just had to remind himself of that. Yeah. "Well...I suppose you're right. We don't. Kakashi is known as the famous Copy Ninja, whereas I'm just a teacher at the academy. And we're both men, which is probably pretty odd too, considering his choice of reading material. But...despite our differences, we learned to accept each other for what we were. We became...friends. And then more."

"Copy ninja? What do you mean by that? -I mean I think I understand the, uh, the 'more' part.. Dont think I need to hear anymore about that, either. It'd be really weird to listen to my best friend's boyfriend talk about that, then," Obito said nervously, deciding that the ramen was good and done. It looked a little crunchy, sure, but.. But he was sure that some ramen could be! Dumping the pot messily into two different bowls, he reluctantly sat himself next to Iruka and slid a bowl over to him.

Kakashi was weird now, then. A teacher, who must be late, who has only passed one team and only because of teamwork? "Kakashi was mean when he was a kid. He called me a crybaby, you know. ..Y'know he was like that 'cause of his dad, right? I didn't. Your Yondaime had to tell me that, but back then, he was just my sensei." Obito sighed, thinking of all the weird things that had happened to his team, before biting into his crunchy ramen. --Ramen shouldn't be crunchy, he decided.

"Well, his sharingan - I mean, your sharingan - let him copy a thousand moves, or so they say. He's one of the strongest ninjas in all of Konoha. Thanks to you," Iruka finished softly, blushing at Obito's interpretation of his words. "I-I didn't mean it like that! Honestly!" He then picked up his bowl of ramen and some chopsticks and took a large bite, crunching loudly, though his face didn't reflect his surprise. He just chewed and swallowed and ate some more, listening to Obito speak.

Kakashi, mean? Well, he supposed he could see that. An image of a young Kakashi glaring at someone going 'you're ugly!' popped into Iruka's head, and he waved it away with a gesture of his chopsticks, before picking up another mouthful, only barely hesitating before popping it into his mouth and chewing once more. "His dad...I've heard of what happened to Sakumo-san, but Kakashi...he doesn't really talk about things. Not voluntarily, at least."

Obito squinted one eye at Iruka as the older - younger? - man waved something away with his chopsticks. What a weird guy! Kakashi obviously deserved someone as weird as him, Obito sighed regretfully. "Kakashi really got into the stupid ninja code and everything after his dad died. He was really strict! He wouldn't take any of my excuses at all or anything for when I was late, even if they were real! And most of the time they were, honest!" Obito whined into his crunchy noodles, shuddering as he swallowed. They were so bitter. Noodles shouldn't be bitter! This was so gross! How could Iruka eat this stuff!

"..Heh! But hey, I'm a hero or something now, right? 'cause me and Kakashi are like brothers since we share the sharingan, right! That's so cool! But I bet I would've been better." He puffed out his chest, a smug look on his face as he pointed the chopsticks at Iruka and winked, grin spreading across his face. "I guess I taught him to appreciate people! --I guess I might be the reason you two are together, so y'should thank me!"

It really was odd to think of Kakashi as such a stickler for the rules. Though, even now he did adhere quite strictly to his own version of the rules, though they were rather subjective. Pushing away his bowl, he looked at Obito seriously. "You're the reason why Kakashi is the way he is today, Obito. And despite the confusing changes, and despite some of his...unique faults, that's something to be proud of. He is a shinobi to be admired, and you had a hand in that. I don't think Kakashi would be the man he is today without you."

Smiling softly, Iruka nodded and reached across the table, placing a hand lightly on Obito's shoulder. "Thank you, Obito." He didn't say anything more, merely letting the tone in his voice and the look in his eyes say what he didn't want to put into words. Thank you, for all you've done for Kakashi. Thank you, for accepting us. For accepting me.

Hunching over and grabbing at the seat of his chair, Obito grinned wider, eyes closed tight as he tried not to cry. It was really hard, too, since he was being praised for changing a guy just by giving his life for him. How weird is that! "You're a pretty nice guy, even if you are a little weird!" Obito's looks softened, and he smiled sadly into his bowl of crunchy ramen; it was like some kind've metaphor for life. That it couldn't always be soft and go down your throat easy, it had to be tough and hard to swallow. "..so y'don't have to thank me. Be good for Kakashi is all. I can't always look out for him and show him the right way to do things, after all! ..and hey.. Y'gotta go against the rules sometime, don't you? I guess he learned that from me, and went with a guy 'cause hes just not one to go by that thing.."

Obito rubbed at his nose in thought, and looked back at Iruka. "Just stop being so loud!"

Iruka laughed and rubbed the back of his head. He could deal with Obito thinking he was a bit weird - he wouldn't be the first, as he had heard the whispers from his students - as long as he didn't hate him. "I'll definitely try my hardest, okay?" It was funny how much Obito reminded him of Naruto. He was brash and unconventional, and had strong feelings about the importance of friendship.

"...!!!" Just as he was going to attempt another bite of the crunchy ramen, Iruka choked, his face turning bright red. Oh dear, he was actually happy that he and Obito were getting along now? Maybe he spoke too soon...
