Log, Complete
When; March 12th. Late Evening.
Rating; PG.
Characters; Jr./Rubedo [
red_dragon_666] & Elena [
lady_turk].
Summary; After recovering a bit from his injury, Jr. thinks a trip to the Durandal's park might be good for all of the girls, and tries not to be too obvious in front of the others about wanting to spend time with Elena. When they're finally alone, some words are exchanged before she finally lets herself fall asleep.
Log;
Elena; The scenery before her and the concept behind it would have normally been enough to take Elena’s breath away, but as this wasn’t exactly a normal situation, the view was lost on the blonde. She was haggard and tired, but Elena still wanted to avoid sleeping. She knew she would have nightmares, and it wasn’t only from all the recent things that had happened to her. But also, it was out of concern for Jr. She’d heard that he was fine and she’d even seen the evidence for herself. And yet, she knew she wouldn’t be completely satisfied until she could actually get her hands on him herself.
Immediately, once they had been lead to the park, Elena had sought out a place where she could be left easily alone. She just really didn’t feel like dealing with too many people, even if they were concerned for her right now. And while getting out of the hold was nice, Elena didn’t know if she could stand dealing with all that care and concern, even in such a nice place. She just wanted to see Jr. right now really. It wouldn’t make everything better, but it would be a great relief at least.
Rubedo: It hadn't been too much of a walk, really, thanks to the transporter, but walking from the hold to that had been enough to make him want to take another nap. It wasn't that it hurt to walk so much as it hurt to do anything that required extra breathing. Holly had helped heal most of it so nobody could test if their hand would fit through, but there was still enough injury left so that lifting his arms was...not recommended. Because ow.
Fortunately, the pain meds he'd taken would kick in soon, and then he wouldn't have to walk like a ninny anymore.
Having to keep his cool while escorting the girls with Mary had been hard. As soon as he'd seen Elena, he had just wanted to collapse in her lap and never leave again, but he wasn't sure what would be acceptable. As the ship's Captain, and this being a mission, he couldn't just start acting romantic in front of the poor girls. And plus, he didn't even know if touching Elena was okay. After what she'd been through...what would she be like?
Once inside the park, he was sure to tell Mary to keep an eye on the girls as he put in the code to block off the entrance. The place would be big enough for them to kick back and relax, enjoy the view, exercise, or just be alone. He had a feeling Elena would be doing the latter, at least.
Mary had told Rubedo that Elena had wanted to see him, but he still wasn't sure. Taking a painful breath, he rubbed at the back of his neck while walking off to locate where Elena had gone. Spotting her sitting on a bench behind one of the large fountains, where it was dark aside from the nanobugs, he smiled a bit.
"Hey."
Elena: Her body immediately tensed up as soon as she heard his voice and Elena had to force her body to relax. She had wanted to see him so badly and now that she was finally able to, she was at a loose at what to do. A part of her was saying that she should just go over to him and embrace him. To make sure that he really was alive and that he was real and not some trick of her mind. Not that she was very trusting of her mind right now, but it wasn’t like she could replace her mind or thoughts. It was just what she had to work with and trust it as best she could at times. Another part of her wanted to throw herself at Jr. and hug and sob and ask him to kill her so that she didn’t have such a thing inside her anymore. So that she’d be able to somehow stop dwelling on what had happened.
But the larger part of her, the part that she listened to in most cases, said that she should keep her control and her calm. That overreacting wouldn’t do either of them any good. That it would only go on and then she’d probably never be able to stop because she would be re-living everything that had happened and then re-living all the things that still gave her nightmares to this day. The things that didn’t need to be said because there were always things that were so much worse so why complain?
So even though she was tired, scared out of her mind, frazzled, worried, and every single one of her emotions was on edge as well as all of her nerves, Elena forced herself to just smile softly and wave a hand. “What took you so long anyway?”
Rubedo: Her response made him laugh, but it was cut short when he realized that laughing only hurt. With a little flinch, he rubbed at his chest gently and walked over to carefully sit on the bench beside her, leaving enough room so that she didn't feel crowded.
"Oh, you know. Battle tactics and an epic encounter with a Sith Lord's light saber. The usual."
Elena: If only she had some materia or a potion, she could have offered it when she saw Jr. wince from a simple laugh. As it was though, all she could do was bit the inside of her lip and shake her head to push aside those kinds of thoughts. She might have hated feeling helpless, but there was no helping it in this case. But… she really, really did hate it.
“Just the usual… right…” Elena said softly. The light saber… Maybe it was the stress. Or the lack of sleep. But right then, Elena didn’t care about holding back anymore. Turning and throwing her arms around Jr., she pulled his smaller body closer to her and choked back a sob. She was out and he was here. She had been hurt and she had things done to her that it was still hard to say, let alone think about. But right now, she was out of there of she could finally make certain for herself that he was alive and in her arms.
Rubedo: Really, he knew it would be better soon. Holly would do the second stage of healing in the morning, and until then he had the pain med for himself. It was already starting to take the edge off, but it still made him gasp a bit as he was yanked close all of a sudden.
The sharp little twinge that had brought about was quickly overshadowed by an odd mixture of relief and concern when he realized she was on the verge of crying. Quickly, he lifted both arms to wrap around her, drawing a leg up onto the bench to help give him a bit of leverage for the embrace.
It was so nice to touch her again. She was warm, and whole, and he was going to make sure she stayed that way. They would get rid of that thing inside of her, and it wouldn't be with Alexiel's method. Then maybe...Elena could heal. He didn't even want to try and imagine what she had been going through emotionally.
"...Elena?"
Elena: It was embarrassing and it was silly, but with her arms around Jr. like this and with his arms around her, and it not just some dream or thought in her head to keep her subdued, Elena felt a great amount of relief just wash over her. It was like she felt she could finally get a little rest. She was still scared of sleeping and the dreams that would come, but at least now she wasn’t as tense as she had been.
“… I’m sorry…” Elena stated softly, voice barely above a whisper. Her voice shook and wavered and she couldn’t help but squeeze a little tighter. Though if that was more for herself or for Jr.’s sake, she couldn’t say. And what she was sorry for, she didn’t know. There was all so much that needed to be said, but how to start? An apology was all that she could force out, still trying to hold onto some of her control.
Rubedo: The pain in his chest was something different now. It wasn't the injury, but his sorrow. How could she be the one to apologize? He had been the one to let this happen. He shouldn't have been at the library so long that day. He could have just grabbed the books and returned to the Durandal, but no. He'd been stupid.
"Don't... Don't apologize. Please don't." He shut his eyes and rested his head against hers, fingers combing through her hair in what he hoped was a soothing gesture. He knew that Elena was a woman who never wanted to be a victim, but she had been, and there was no getting around that. At the very least, he hoped this damage was reparable.
The only thing he could really be grateful for, aside from Elena still being alive, was that this hadn't happened to anyone else he cared for. Other women had been traumatized, and he felt for them, but if this had also happened to Mary, Sakura, or MOMO...just the thought made him grit his teeth. At one point or another, he's gotten all the women in his life in some kind of trouble.
"Just try to think of good things. That you're alive, that you're on the Durandal, and that I love you..."
Elena: Letting another sob escape, Elena felt her breath catch. Good things? It was a nice thought to think of good things, but it was hard and she was never all that optimistic to begin with. But… If she wasn’t imagining it… Had she really heard what she’d thought she’d heard? It was painful to say, but Elena’s first reaction wasn’t to be happy, but to be surprised and shocked. It was a bittersweet feeling that made her heart clench and caused her to shake her head slightly.
She didn’t respond immediately, taking comfort in the small things that she made herself focus on one at a time. She could still hear her heartbeat. There were gentle fingers in her hair that she knew cared a great deal for her. There was no one else around to see such an embarrassing sight. And… She was loved?
“I didn’t think I’d ever hear anyone say that to me,” the blonde whispered, swallowing thickly. She felt her throat clench and her breath hitch again, but the blonde slowly made herself speak, if hesitantly and barely above a whisper. “I know Sandalphon said it and I believed it, do believe it still a little, but I… I didn’t… I could never think anyone else… Rubedo…”
She wasn’t going to cry. She wasn’t going to cry damnit! But Elena didn’t know how much longer she could hold back her tears.
Rubedo: Saying that hadn't been as tough as he'd originally thought, but it was a little easier when caught up in the moment.
"Try not to believe it... I mean... Not him. It. He's just...a bastard who took advantage of all of you..." He could tell her mind was still fragmented, and that wasn't just the shock. It was that stupid thing inside her that needed to be eradicated.
He spoke quietly while leaning to nuzzle her hair. "Everyone else here, though, cares for you... And yeah, I love you. So I guess you're kinda stuck with me."
Elena: “Everyone else…” Nuzzling softly into the comforting hold, Elena felt a small smile make it’s way onto her face. She wasn’t okay, but she was better. For the time being. She knew she was still frazzled and on the verge of crying, but she didn’t feel so scared or frantic anymore. “I don’t love everyone else though. Just one.”
“But I can think of worst things to be stuck with…” Elena sighed. Maybe it would be okay to sleep, just for a little bit. Letting out another soft sigh, she closed her eyes and gave one last squeeze before finally letting her exhaustion overcome her.
Rubedo: Her words made Rubedo's cheeks flush a bit, and he just responded with a tighter hug. That was when he noticed that she had suddenly relaxed...a lot. "Elena," he whispered softly, straining to get a look at her face.
Oh, she had fallen asleep. Immediately shutting his trap, he shifted back around the bench, careful for his injury and so he didn't wake her, he situated himself so that she could lean to rest on his shoulder and he could sit back somewhat comfortably.
After reaching to tuck back some of her hair, he kissed the top of her head and sighed. His thoughts...they were so hard to shut up. But even if he had been passed out for a day and a half, he hadn't gotten any real rest during that time. The agitation he'd felt had ebbed a bit now that Elena was beside him and resting, and he wondered if she had gotten any sleep since returning to the Durandal.
Finding her hand with his, he let their fingers twine, resting between them as he shut his eyes and allowed himself to drift off in a light doze, lulled to sleep by the sound of her breathing and the trickle of the fountain behind them.
