Summary: Dracula is not amused by the abrupt rerouting of his journey to England.
Log:

When the Demeter came to rest at Whitby, there was not a living soul above or below deck. Dracula had seen to that detail with ruthless efficiency. No one would know how he had come into England. No one would know that the men who had brought him had seen a monster. Perhaps, in another era, the living would have believed the fantastic tale woven in the ship's log, but the world was changing, and England's officials were inclined to approach mysteries in a pragmatic and scientific fashion. They were fools ... but their foolishness suited his endeavors.

Still, there was one more difficulty to overcome before he entered England. All members of the ship's crew had been accounted for in the log. No passengers had been listed. A survivor in the form of a man would be remarked upon and detained, but Dracula had no intention of coming ashore on two legs. Unhindered by the violence of the ship's final drive to shore, he moved above deck. He had taken the form of a large, black wolf. In the chaos of the storm, he would easily be mistaken for a dumb brute if he was seen.

The Demeter shuddered as she ran aground. Dracula leapt from the bow. His claws found purchase in the slick sand, but he skidded to a halt not two strides onto the beach and spun around.

There was no wrecked ship in his wake. The sea was calm, free of fog and gale and frothing waves. Dracula ground his teeth together in consternation as he slowly swung about. Everything was different. There was no village, no cliff, no churchyard. It was as though, in the instant he had left the deck of the Demeter, the world he had meant to enter had been swept away and replaced by another.

A card whistled through the air and sliced the Captain's glove slightly.

"He said down, Captain," Tublicain said.

The Captain grimaced and lowered his hand.
