Characters: Elendira the Crimsonnail [
suitcaseofnails] and Gray the Ninelives [
nine_livesofwar]
Summery: Elendira is working on the ariship and Ninelives gives him a hand.
Building an airship was dirty work. Elendira had left the fashion behind for this job, his clothing non-script, brown and having as many pockets as possible to fit all the tools he needed. Hair pulled back and hands covered in heavy gloves, the transvestite sat on the ground his head buried inside the guts of a gear box ignoring the swarming people working on the outline of the ship.
"You know," he said, voice muffled. "I'm surprised that no one has bothered us yet." He crawled out of the box and stood up. "We're not that inconspicuous."
It'd taken some time due to rather odd circumstances, but Ninelives had eventually made his way to the location Elendira had given him. Easily towering over the workers bustling about, his empty eyes scanned about for his superior. This would be far easier if Elendira had been wearing his normal attire, he tended to blend in with the crowd otherwise.
"Elendira-sama?" Ninelives' voice boomed over the commotion. "We've arrived."
Looking up, Elendira smiled and rubbed his nose, leaving the gear box and walking over to the giant Gun. He dodged past a couple of people carrying a huge gear and slid around a few others hard at work and came to a stop in front of Ninelives.
"Ah good, Ninelives. I bet the crowds were being rather annoying even for you." He nodded at the construction around them "Well? What do you think of these fangirls’ eagerness to please?"
Crouching to bring himself down to a similar level as Elendira, the titan glanced around, the Nine-Lives admittedly impressed with the work that was being done. The ship was far more completed than he'd expected it to be.
"It is... interesting, but beneficial." He answered, nodding his head slightly.
"I've had to go behind a couple to redo what they were trying to screw up – something about getting back at me for Livio of all people." He rolled his eyes and huffed, a stray blond hair sticking to the grease smeared across his nose. "So. I am going to need your assistance concerning positioning some of the large framework. I can't trust these ninnies to hold it steady enough while I screw the bolts into place."
"We can make sure they do their work, Elendira-sama." His head cocked slightly to one side as he rose back up to his full height, turning to the hulking frame of the ship. "Understood. Where shall we begin?"
He nodded at a huge arched piece of metal standing crookedly along the side of several smaller pieces. It looked like someone took a giant rib cage and pulled it apart, leaving the pieces arranged for anything flying to view. "We can start with that." Elendira picked up a large power drill and a heavy canvas bag and headed for it. "I need the brace held steady while I attach the ribs."
"Understood." Ninelives' large stride easily carried him over to the framework first, the giant Gun Ho Gun shooing the other workers away once he was in place. Kneeling down, he took hold of both the brace and the first rib of the frame, holding both steady for Elendira.
Ninelives being there made this task a whole lot easier than Elendira had anticipated. He ran up the brace and hooked his legs around it in order to get the right angle for bolting both pieces together. Elendira trusted the giant Gun to hold it steady unlike the ninnies he had been dealing with all day long. Finishing with a shriek of metal grinding against metal, he looked up and nodded for the second rib to be put into position.
And so it was, Ninelives adjusting his position, hefting the rib up into place. Even if the massive pieces of metal were larger than the Gun, he moved them and held them into place with relative ease. While it was a more menial task for him to preform, he could not complain. It was a welcomed change from sitting outside of Knives' home acting as a guard.
It was a welcomed change. Elendira wasn’t sure he liked the human pet Knives was keeping and he knew he hated being inactive for long periods of time. Being away from the girl and getting something accomplished – even if that something would not work out like he had planned – was far better than being idle. He didn’t even want to know how Ninelives was handling it with the dwellings being far too small to accommodate his bulk.
The last rib was fixed into place and Elendira swung the heavy tool over his shoulders and slid down the one rib to the ground. "Nine, check to see if you can squeeze under the frame, okay?"
Ninelives was handling it poorly. Having to remain outside meant he was at the mercy of the weather, even if it rarely changed, and it was aggravating after a while. The passers-by that would stop and stare at him were getting quite tiresome as well. Were he not under orders to protect the home where Knives was currently residing, he would've turned them all into bloody smears on the pavement.
Getting back to his feet now that the work was done, he looked up at the top of the frame, finding it cleared his head by only a few feet, but it was clearance all the same.
Of course this was only part of the underbelly of the ship Elendira was going to build. There were still several more layers that would go over the frame so by the time it was finished, he hoped that Ninelives would have enough room to move freely without needing to separate. He backed away to get a better idea of how much more space would be needed and took out a roll of paper and made notations on the margins of the blueprint.
"Thank you, Nine. I wasn’t too far off judging the distances needed as I had thought I was. We can work on it some more unless you have grown bored with the task." He paused in his scribbling to look up at the impassive face of the giant. "I do have a lot of help right now if you want to go exploring."
Carefully making his way out of the lower frame work, the Nine listened as their superior spoke. They had entertained the idea of exploring the city from time to time, but they'd always decided against it. The giant that was Gray the Ninelives without question could not fit into any normal building within the city, and the Nine-Lives were wary of leaving the living suit to do their own exploring; they felt they'd experience the same prejudice here as they had back on their home planet.
"...We will remain here to assist you, Elendira-sama."
"If you are sure then." Elendira tucked both pencil and paper back into one of his many pockets and blew a kiss at the giant. Since he looked every inch a hired wrench man and nothing like his usual feminine fashion plate, the move was enough to make a couple people pause and give him odd looks. He snorted and tossed his head, heading for the next brace and rib set. "So, I think if we finish the frame and set to two together we can build everything on the inside out. Oh, and I have arranged a large space just for you Nine-lives."
"...Thank you, Elendira-sama." That was very unexpected. Even back at Knives' former residence, the space he was granted was little more than a large storage area. As he followed after Elendira, nine voices could be heard speaking rapidly from within the giant as the Nine conversed amonst themselves. They were very surprised by the almost insignificant gesture of kindness they'd been shown.
He smiled and shifted the tool as he walked. Insignificant it may seem, but Elendira liked to think that if the Nine-lives weren't all cramped in a forgotten space, they would feel a bit better in this strange City. He stopped at the next brace and craned his neck to look up at the giant. "Same as before, Nine. And then we'll attach both ends together and fuse it together."
He only gave a nod of compliance as he knelt down again, taking hold of the brace and the rib section, getting them into position. While the task was monotonous and put a strain even on the massive body Ninelives' possessed, the Nine had much less issue with it now, after what Elendira had told him. It seemed that even the souls of those wronged and locked away could be lightened even somewhat by kindness shown from a comrade.
