Summary: Shopping for clothes and cake.

Gar, truth be told, knew very little about shopping. He knew even less about shopping for women's clothing, so he thought it best if he simply act as an escort of sorts. He'd told Cassandra that he would take her shopping, after all, no matter how useless he was at it.
The main street for shopping was crowded, as usual, when they rounded the corner to the main road of the 'market' area. The best he could go was gesture vaguely at the shops all around them, "Alright. Free range, I guess. Take your pick."

Cass wasn't exactly good at shopping either. As a child she'd stolen some clothes after running away from Cain, but she'd never been too concerned with making them match, really. She ambled along with Beast Boy, looking around at the shops around them, fascinated by the large variety of consumer goods in the market. She glanced at the green boy beside her, and sighed at what she saw. Beast Boy practically screamed 'I don't know what I'm doing!', and since they both don't know what they're doing... well, she'd just have to pick her own stuff out. Scanning the shops, she decided that she rather disliked the bright clothes on display. She was relieved when she finally spotted something black. Wearing black makes her feel like she's still in her Batgirl suit, and wearing the suit makes her feel safe, as ironic as that sounds. Tapping Beast Boy's arm, she pointed at it. "That."

There weren't recognizable name-brands in the City, really. What she had pointed out was a store that Gar immediately thought of as a love child between Hot Topic and some sort of store that catered specifically to ninjas. He supposed that it was all well and good, because Cass was sort-of like a ninja, so it was suited. "Awesome," and so they set out. He looked both ways and crossed the street, flinching slightly at the volume of the chime when they entered the store, looking around warily. "Um, well... Have at it, I guess."

Cassandra wasn't too used to being in a store and all that, but she still looked around the racks picking out whatever she thought wouldn't get in the way of her lifestyle. She winced at a particularily lacy dress, and shook her head at it. Nope, definitely not anything with lace. She couldn't really think of any reason why anyone would wear it out either since it was practically see-through. That, or something with chains and buckles. Everthing seemed impractical. Riffling through another rack, she finally found some plain tank tops, a pair of pants, and heck, underwear. Deciding that she's taken enough already, she returned to where Beast Boy was waiting. He was decidedly easy to find. After all, green does show up quite well against black.

Gar had merely settled up by the front counter, engaging the clerk in a bit of small talk. He grinned when the Batgirl returned from the bowls of the store, greeting her with a nearly-relieved, "Ready?"
Payment was never really an issue in the City. Everything went by the most uneven barters ever. So, when Beast Boy opened up his wallet and pulled out a small cluster of ticket-stubs, the clerk just shrugged and held out his hand expectantly. He even tucked the payment away into the teller machine and bagged the items. Taking them up, Gar started for the door with another smile, "How about lunch, huh?"

She stared blankly at the clerk, wondering why he was actually accepting the pieces of paper. She didn't know what it was exactly, but she was pretty sure money doesn't look like that despite her minimal contact with aspects of normal everyday life. This place is certainly strange. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, of course. Her eyes lit up when Beast Boy mentioned lunch. She's always hungry (probably because of how active she is.) - and the few days she was by herself in the City without food, no less, only made her more aware of her constant hunger. "Okay," she replied, a hint of enthusiasm in her voice.

Now that he had mentioned it, the smells of food practically assaulted him as he stepped back out onto the street. There was a snack-stand nearby, a hotdog cart, and more restaurants than he could likely distinguish. Again, he looked to her for at least somewhat of a final decision, "Any preferance?"

She shook her head, but remembering her conversation with the strange man who insisted on taking her out for food, she piped up. "Cake?" She was fond of sweet things like chocolate and all that... stuff Babs usually wouldn't let her have. Once or twice Tim slipped her a few chocolate bars, but that was about it. She wouldn't ask him for them even if she was desperate for chocolate, though. He's too depressing to try to talk to. Even moreso than Batman. That, and he had a huge stick up his birdie butt.

"Uh," he considered it for a moment. Cake wasn't exactly a lunch item, really. Still, it was her day out, and, well, cake didn't sound that bad at all, even if it was a bit odd. "Well, okay."
He stilled for a moment, features changing in the most minute of ways. He inhaled deeply, then sniffed absently, and grinned when he finally exhaled. "I think there's a bakery a bit down the block," tossing her shopping casually to be carried over one shoulder, he playfully offered her his arm, "Shall we?"

Cass was a bit confused when he offered her his arm, but he did look like he was expecting something. She tilted her head slightly, before recognition flitted across her features. She remembered seeing Dick doing the same to Babs at one of Bruce's fancy parties, and Babs took his arm even though she was in her wheelchair. She imitated Babs with a nervous half-smile, slipping her arm around his. She didn't know how to explain it, but it sure felt awkward, being all... what's the word for it? Lady-like? Cass didn't mind it though. It was nice to be treated like a normal girl instead of a 'caped crusader' sometimes.

With that little bit settled, he started down the street, following the bakery smell with a growing hunger. The shop itself was small, almost frilly-looking, but suitably loaded with sweets, enough to counteract any distake he might have for the decorating sytle.
They were set up almost like a doughnut shop, complete with juice and milk in a cooler and small, cafe tables. "Wow," he remarked to it as he entered, getting a good look around. A good variety of cake was sold by the slice, aside from a whole other variety of pastries. He reevaluated the fact that he was having cake for lunch, and only grinned again, greeting the store clerk with a hello and, "I'll take a slice of this yellow cake here." Chocolate icing included, of course, and it looked extremely promising. He looked expectantly to Cass, "Your go."

Cass let go of Beast Boy when they arrived at the bakery, practically plastering herself to the display with the cakes. She scanned over the baked goods; there was strawberry, green tea, lemon... chocolate! She couldn't read the label beside the cake, but it was the darkest coloured and the one that looks like it has the most chocolate in it. She pointed at it eagerly, and if she was any better at English she would've asked for the whole cake instead of just a slice.

Low and behold, cake was served over the counter, complete with forks. Gar grabbed himself up a grape juice, payed with monopoly money, and went to find a seat. He picked up a healthy bite, and audibly 'mm'ed. It was good cake.
Despite the fact that Cass was pleasant company, which was something that he hadn't had for a while, her silence was still a bit unnerving for someone as chatty as himself. He lamely attempted conversation with, "How's yours?"

"Good," she replied simply before continuing to wolf down her cake. It wasn't only good... it was excellent. Finishing her own cake, she eyed Gar's cake greedily. She licked her lips, then tensed in shock, eyes focusing on something behind Beast Boy. "Tim..."

He watched her eat for a moment, consuming only a couple more bites while she ate with enough speed to actually surprise her. If she didn't look so intense, he would've warned her that she was going to make herself sick.
Needless to say, he was distracted enough to fall for her trick, though he didn't realize it. At the mention of their mutual friend's name, he turned sharply in his seat. Could it be that Tim hadn't actually left? Or, had he come back? "Hm," but there was no sign of him, and Gar frowned, thinking that he'd missed him, or just wasn't looking in the right spot. "I don't... Where?" He turned back to question her, and only then learned the nature of her dubious plot. "Hey."

Busted. Cass would've been fast enough to be undetected if she hadn't gone back for another bite. The cake was certainly good though, if not as good as the one she just finished, but, well, it was still cake. She froze when Beast Boy turned with a "Hey," but she grinned and took yet another bite. "It's good."

He nodded slowly, then cracked a smile, then laughed, turning to face her completely. "You could've asked, you know." Still, that had been admirably slick of her. With a remaining smirk, he pushed his plate into the middle of the table, "I'm an excellent sharer." He took up his fork again, scooping a good-sized bite from what was left of it.

She chuckled, scooping small bits from his cake. She didn't want to finish his cake though... it'd be rude. Cass would personally hate it if someone finished her cake. Figuring she's had enough, she sat back and watched Beast Boy eat the rest of the cake. To be honest, she was having much more fun now than when she "dated" Superboy, and he showed her a whole lot of things... like a cloud castle (as strange as that was). Their relationship ended shortly after, mostly because of Batman. He hated "aliens" and Cass just had a way of getting involved with them... not that Beast Boy was an alien, but well, he's green.

"Right," he nodded, "I understand your tactics, Batgirl." He finished off his cake with a rather satisfied look, "Next time, I won't fall so easily." His fork fell with a small 'clink' onto his plate, and he took a moment to finish off his grape juice.
Looking back out onto the market street, Gar shrugged lightly, taking up the shopping bag again. "Anything else you need?"

Cass shook her head, pushing her chair back and standing up. A muffled "Nnn" escaped her lips when she stretched her arms for a moment, dropping them with a contented sigh and a smile. She observed him for a second or two before sneaking an arm around his. "Let's go."

He was only slightly taken aback by the gesture, but got over it quickly. It was almost unexpected that such a quiet girl would make a somewhat forward move like that, but he certainly wouldn't complain. She was awfully nice for a bat-kid, really. Tightening the grip with a slight smile, he nodded his agreement, "Alrighty."
