Log: Complete (sorta)

When: May 20th, mid-late afternoon
Rating: PG-13 for violence
Characters: Tesla and Darth Bane
Summary: Darth Bane is tired of waiting for the other side to move first, so he takes matters into his own hands.
Log: Leaning against the corner of a building, arms folded, his eyes focused on the random people going about their business, Darth Bane waited patiently for his quarry to arrive. He'd heard from reliable sources that the one called Tesla had taken to patrolling the city and familiarizing himself with it, so he had meditated in the Force, looking for insight as to where he might go next. This was the place he had seen in his vision, and so here was where he'd stood, motionless for the past two hours, waiting. He had taken to supressing his Force abilities in an attempt to hide his power from the City, and so far he had been successful, but this would be the first true test.

He was beginning to wonder if this was perhaps the wrong day for his vision, when out of the corner of his eye he spotted a glimpse of white. A small grin spread across his rough features as he recognized the white uniform of an Arrancar, and the eye-patch marked this one as the one he'd been waiting for. A rush of adrenaline coursed through him at that moment, but he kept still, waiting to see what Tesla would do before he revealed himself.

The city seemed to slow during this time of day and Tesla had begun to take specific note of that point. In fact, he had taken very specific mental notes about the procedures and goings on of the city as a whole since the day after his initial arrival. Judging by the information he had received from his peers, their time spent here much longer than his own, Tesla was given the impression that the best he could do for his master was gather information and serve him as best he could under the circumstances and had set out to do just that.

Back straight as ever, Tesla lifted a dark-gloved hand to shield his eyes from the sun to get a proper reading of the time of day. He estimated about another
hour and a half before he should return to Noitora's vicinity, just to ascertain that the other did not truly require him for anything.

Bane's grin widened somewhat when he realized that Tesla had not noticed him. He pushed against the wall to straighten himself and unfolded his arms, tapping into the Force for the first time today and letting it's dark energy empower him. He stepped out of the shadows of the alley and let the Force energize his body completely, filling the air around him with a darkness that was more felt than seen. People shied away in fear from his approach and cleared the area as Bane slowly made his way toward the Arrancar, making no move to hide himself or his power. In a few moments the street would be clear aside from him and his opponent, assuming Tesla didn't do as the rest of the pedestrians had done.

A change curled slowly in the air behind Tesla, twisting his gut with its clarity and sending warning signals through his mind. It felt strange, almost like reiatsu, but darker and thicker against the air. Tesla lowered his hand to rest on the hilt of his zanpakutou, slowly turning around.

The man this feeling came from was obvious as the few on the street began to melt away from his path. Tesla knew he couldn't move, though. The man was trying to make a statement. Leaving would only make Tesla appear a coward and reflect poorly on all of his peers. His fingers curled, however, tighter on the zanpakutou's hilt before he finally spoke out, voice clear and yet still unaffected, "Do you have a matter of business with me?"

Bane stopped several yards from the Arrancar. "Business?" he said, "I suppose you could call it that." His hand went to the metallic cylinder at his waist and detached it from his belt, though he did not activate it. "You see, your master, Aizen, has declared war on me," he began. "And since he has refused to make the first move as he always does, I have decided to make a pre-emptive strike." He pressed a control on the cylinder, and with a snap-hiss the azure blade of his lightsaber came to life. "And since you are at the bottom tier of his army, I've decided to start with you."

Protests about the truce rested on Tesla's tongue, but what he had seen and heard from the others had made it seem like a farce at best. Now, when faced with an opponent that seemed to practically exude power from every inch of his form, it seemed as if the truce was a distant memory. If Aizen-sama did indeed consider this man his enemy, Tesla would too and if this man was so intent on attacking him, Tesla would make him properly reconsider the strength of those loyal to Aizen-sama.

He drew his zanpakutou forth, letting the cold steel of the elegantly shaped blade catch the sun's light from above. "You will advance no further beyond
myself, then."

Bane threw back his head and laughed, a deep, resounding sound that reverberated off of the walls around them. "You seem so certain," he said in a mirthful tone. His grin faded as he lifted his lightsaber into a guard position. "Let's see what we can do about that." And with that he charged, blade flashing.

Tesla drew in his breath, holding his ground at the charge. He would not be daunted. Resolve was what had decided the conclusion to many of his battles. This would be no different. He lifted his zanpakutou to parry Bane's first strike, with a glistening sheen of steel as the metal circle above his hand guard filled.

"I know my strengths," Tesla replied, beneath his breath, "From there comes my certainty that I will succeed."

"Then consider this a test of your strength," Bane growled, pushing his energy blade away from Tesla's steel, not surprised that the sword was able to parry his attack. Apparently all of the zanpakutou weapons were immune to that particular property of his 'saber. He fell into an attack routine that slowly guided his movements in a left-ward direction, testing Tesla's skill with the blade and his reactions to his attacks, searching for an opening as he went.

The Sith's strangely colored blade sent sparks flickering from Tesla's well-kept zanpakutou as the man launched into a series of attacks with a speed that Tesla could only match with some effort. His brow wrinkled slightly, but he gave little.

His left eye had always been a notable weakness after donning the dark eyepatch that mirrored his master's. And, as with all weaknesses of that sort, it was something he had compensated for in his training. Tesla bit the inside of his lip, "My strength will not fail so easily."

The tension in Tesla's brow did not go unnoticed by the Sith and he kept up the pace, keeping his strikes quick and unpredictable but ultimately non-lethal. "Of course it won't, we are just getting started you and I," he said. He focused his energy and applied a little pressure to Tesla's mind in an attempt to put him slightly off-balance as well as to see how strong a mind he had as he continued his attack, guiding him toward one of the walls lining the street.

Tesla frowned slightly, not offering a response as he concentrated on the fight. Bane was fast and it was becoming quickly apparent that, in a contest of endurance, the other could outlast Tesla. It didn't help that his head had begun to hurt, a sharp sudden aching that made him grit his teeth.

He had to create some measure of distance between them. Tesla balled his free hand into a fist, gathering his reiatsu. A cero was out of the question with such a timeframe, but a bala would provide him with enough of a distraction.

The bala wasn't something Bane had experienced in his duels with these Reiatsu users, and as such he only had a split second of warning from the Force before the projectile slammed into his gut, knocking the wind out of him momentarily. He staggered back, coughing once and wiping his mouth with his free hand. "Clever Arrancar," he said, coughing one more time before regaining his composure. He reversed his grip on his lightsaber and brought the hilt up to face level, placing his palm on the back of the grip and angling the blade downward across his body as he began to slowly circle Tesla, immersing himself in the Force and waiting for the next move.

Tesla smiled slightly at the small compliment, but the advantage would be brief if he was not careful. Tesla took a step back, holding his own zanpakutou guardedly as he matched Bane's pace with soft steps of his own. He began to gather the reiatsu in his free hand once more. This time, Bane would be prepared, but it wouldn't hurt to have to another ready for the next attack.

Bane could feel as well as see the energy building up in Tesla's hand, but he wasn't about to let the Arrancar try that little trick again. He tensed his legs and channeled the Force into an enhanced leap forward, closing the distance between them with lightning speed and aiming a quick saber cut at his Reiatsu-charged hand.

Tesla jerked back, the blade searing through his uniform to leave an open gash in his hierro-enforced skin and sending a sharp pain along his arm. The gathered reiatsu dispersed almost as it had come to him and Tesla stumbled further back, his zanpakutou held defensively, if shakily in front of him.

Bane was delighted to discover that, despite the Arrancar's incredibly strong blade, its skin and flesh reacted to a lightsaber much the same way human flesh did, and he did nothing to hid the smile that spread across his face. He waded in again, his lightsaber flashing in a dizzying flurry of strikes as he increased the pressure on the Arrancar's mind.

Tesla felt his breath begin to hasten at Darth Bane's pace. He was losing and the cold fear of what that might mean slowly began to wear away his resolve. Tesla felt his feet weaken beneath him as he continued to stumble backwards, his zanpakutou deflecting the strikes as best he could.

He was getting sloppier, though, and the pain of his arm was starting to become more intense despite the dull of adrenaline.

For the first time since he'd encountered Aizen and his minions, Bane felt an emotion from this one he'd thought them incapable of feeling, fear. It was an exquisite feeling, one that Bane was quick to take advantage of. Drinking in the power of that fear, he surged with unnatural strength and aimed a powerful blow at the Arrancar's blade, in an attempt to knock it aside and put him off-balance.

The zanpakutou clashed against Bane's saber in another brief shower of sparks as Tesla fought to keep from falling back at the renewed attack, but Bane's strength was greater than even Tesla expected. The gilded hilt slipped free from his hand and Tesla backwards onto the ground, grasping for it once again.

With a surge of the Force Bane hurled the Arrancar's blade several yards down the street, then he stepped forward and stood at his side, lightsaber blade aimed at his throat. "Your fear betrays you Arrancar," he said. "I had thought Aizen's dark minions were immune to such emotions, I was led to believe that hate and anger were all that you were capable of." He smiled, a feral smile devoid of warmth. "It would seem I was wrong." He brought the tip of the lightsaber's blade just close enough to Tesla's throat to sear the skin. "Do you yield?"

Tesla held very still, fighting the urge to swallow as the bright blade that had managed to best him pressed almost to close to his neck. He closed his eye, not wishing to admit to his defeat, but knowing that death meant something far worse in this city.

He opened his eye, looking away from the Sith lord as he wrapped a gloved hand over his injured arm, "I yield."

Bane shook his head and lowered his weapon. "You disappoint me Arrancar," he said He reached out a hand and wrapped Tesla's neck in the Force, squeezing as the intangible power lifted the man so that his feet dangled several inches off of the ground. "Had you refused to yield I would have granted you a clean death, but now," he said, a feral grin spreading across his face, "now I'm going to have some fun with you before I kill you."

OOC Note: Millenium folks, feel free to post at the end if you like.

Finding a fight for someone who was everywhere and nowhere was easy, staying through the whole even holding a device to transmit information was harder. But Schrödinger found a good hole (many perhaps? Was he even there to start with) and performed his task immensely amused by the battle.

Slaughter, actually, the Arrancar was in disadvantage since the beginning. He hoped the Major and Doc were enjoying the sight as he did. Giving up wasn't classy, but what monsters did all the time. It was boring to watch someone cowardly who didn't fight against the odds.

"But they all bleed the same."
