Summary; After finding out about a few changes that had occured in his own world, Naruto is in much need of a talk. And who better than his old sensei, Kakashi?
Log;
After Naruto's request, the copy-nin found himself idly walking down the street and into the apartment block where his student and sensei lived. He was genuinely worried about how things were starting to become what they were from his time period, but he had to keep composed for the sake of those who needed him. Kakashi dragged his feet up the stairs to Naruto's apartment, before lightly knocking on the door and awaiting the presence of the boy.
He'd been in luck. The response had come a short time after the departure of his two housemates. Both Sasuke and his father had left, not being constrained to remaining in the apartment as he'd already promised. Barely a few days into it and he was already annoyed with the 'rule'. The lack of others around had also caused another problem. Naruto had become bored. And boredom led to thinking, which had then led to...this. At the sound of the soft knocking, Naruto pushed himself up onto his feet, crossing quickly over to the door. Grin quickly plastered into place, he pulled it open, the familiar chakra being indication enough as to who stood outside. "Kakashi-sensei!"
Kakashi gave the blonde a smile with his eye, curving happily at seeing him. "Yo." He had detected that Naruto probably needed some company, but he would rather him be bored than injured. "Sorry if I kept you waiting. I had to..." Oh excuses now was probably pointless. He knew how much Naruto had grown up. Shrugging sheepishly, the jounin let out a laugh and scratched the back of his head, "Mind if I come in then?"
"It's okay. I was just having some lunch." It wasn't as though they'd set a time to meet, anyway. Stepping back out of the entrance, Naruto nodded his head. He wasn't about to send him away. Especially considering he'd been the one to ask the man to come over in the first place. "Did you want something to eat too?" He motioned toward the few cups of ramen that sat on the table, continuing to cook. The few empty packets that stood alongside were proof that he was already on extra servings. Something he's undoubtedly inherited from his father.
The lazy copy-nin continued to smile at Naruto's offer, stepping inside the apartment. He shut the door behind him and removed his shoes, "Ah, that'd be great." Kakashi replied, scratching his stomach instead of his head this time. Even if it was ramen, and he found it grossly unhealthy, it was food, and he wouldn't deny food if offered to him.
Another grin and Naruto headed into the kitchen, quickly digging out another set of chopsticks. Mere moments later, he was back at the table, retaking his seat at one end. A cold cup of ramen sat in front of him, having been neglected for the past few minutes. The reasoning behind it didn't matter. Not now. Kakashi had turned up, and that meant he had someone he could actually talk to, other than the four walls around them.
Kakashi took his seat opposite the boy and took the pair of chopsticks, breaking them in half. He held his own cup of ramen and blinked half-lidded at Naruto, "So, what did you want to talk to me about?"
Prodding at the noodles in his cup, Naruto remained silent for a few moments. Where was he meant to start? How much did Kakashi already know? ...how much did he want to even say? Sighing to himself, the blond finally glanced back up. "...what're the last things that happened before you came here?" A question of his own to begin with.
"Hm... it was pretty much when you had returned from Jiraiya-sama's training." The silver spoke, stirring his ramen thoughtfully. "Which is why I'm so amazed to see you like this. I never got the chance to see how much you changed."
"...oh." So that meant... "You know, you trained me again. You and Yamato-taichou. That was before I came here." His eyes were back on his ramen again, chopsticks still stirring through the ingredients slowly. "Loads of stuff happened before that though. Akatsuki got Gaara. ...they killed him." A heavy sigh and a shake of his head. "But he was brought back to life."
Kakashi perked up at hearing his kohai, turning his head down to shift his mask a little, "Tenzou?..." He began to stuff the ramen into his mouth without hesitation, "Ghrhahr?" The copy-nin swallowed quickly and pulled his mask back up, coughing, "Ah, Gaara? ...God. Didn't he become the Kazekage?... At least he was revived. But I don't think I've ever heard of a jutsu that brings people back to life."
"Yeah. He took over our team instead of you." He knew he wasn't meant to be saying half the things he was. But the same was true with Sasuke. Maybe it could help change things for the better in Kakashi's time too. "They took Shukaku out of him...which killed him. Chiyo-baa gave him her life."
Now the copy-nin was slightly nervous. Why would he give over his team? Unless something had happened to him... Not that he didn't trust Yamato, but he would risk his life for his students. "Chiyo-baa-sama? It must have been a heck of a battle if she was involved."
"One of the people in Akatsuki was related to her. We went to Suna and she ended up coming too." He frowned, finally giving up on the food. "We fought Itachi. Well, a clone of him. Sakura-chan and Chiyo-baa went to fight Sasori." He paused again for a moment, thinking back over what'd happened. "Sakura-chan and Chiyo-baa killed the real Sasori. Itachi and Deidara were clones. We fought them."
"I see..." Kakashi also frowned at hearing this information. Somehow he wished he hadn't turned up in the city, to live those crucial moments. It felt like he had been asleep for months, and time has just gone... "I suppose you know about the Mangekyou Sharingan then?"
"Yours? Yeah. You used it against Deidara." The memory of the fight brought an almost bitter smile to his face, before it was wiped away. "That was why Yamato-taichou had to take over. When we got back...you were in really bad shape 'cause of it."
The jounin had to think for a moment, wondering if things had started to go bad for his own eyesight, like he knew it had for Itachi. "Sorry if I made you worried." he chuckled a little, dipping the chopsticks into his cup and pushing it to the centre of the table, "I hope I survived, at least."
"'course you did!" If he hadn't... "You got better while we were away. And when we got back, you started training me again." Which was one of the few things he was happy to talk about. It didn't involve anyone else being injured. Any other meetings. Anyone other than the three of them. ...or thousand and three.
A sentimental smile formed on Kakashi's un-shown lips, his eye staring at the table, "Maa, sounds like we did a good job then. I mean, just look at you now." He smiled up at his student, "Being here has it's bad side, but at least you have your father back, right? And you have Sasuke again..."
"Always do!" Even if it sometimes involved making a few mistakes along the way. Whatever it took, they always seemed to make it through to the end. A nervous laugh and Naruto nodded his head in agreement. "I know. I'm glad I got to meet him, even if it meant having to come here to do it. And I missed having Sasuke around, before." The trouble was that none of the three of them were from the same time.
The copy-nin chuckled at the praise and cupped his hands together over the table, "I'm glad you did too. He's an amazing person." Kakashi grinned slyly, "I always had a hunch there was unmentionable feelings roaming around somewhere. If Sasuke ever went back, perhaps he can change what's happened."
"Now I know about him, you know I'm gonna bug you about him when we get back." The happy grin that was forming was soon replaced by one of embarrassment as a slight blush appeared. "N-no. It wasn't like that before." Back home, things had been very different. "Sasuke already said he doesn't want to go to the snake-bastard anymore. He's...he's gonna let us help him instead."
Another small laugh emerged from the copy-nin's throat, "Heheh. Feel free to! You know the only reason I never spoke of him was because no one asked." Once he had finished speaking, Kakashi fell silent, nodding slowly at hearing what Naruto had to say. "I'm glad that he's decided on doing that. It's going to make things easier for us."
"I didn't know he trained you. Not till dad told me." A pause, and his voice grew a little quieter. "He mentioned your other team-mates too." Though he'd also said that it was down to Kakashi as to how much he told them. "Things are gonna be okay in his time. I'm sure of it."
"I suppose I just felt the past belonged in the past, and you kids looked to have a great future ahead of you. There was no need to bother you with my old team..." At Naruto mentioning them, he could only smile in remembrance, but shook his head to rid the subject, "I'm sure too. We have to stick by each other, that's the main thing."
"But not anymore, right? I can't wait till the others find out about it all." Namely when he got back to Konoha and could tell Sakura about it. "We'll be okay. But Sasuke's the only on who'll be going back to that time. It'd all depend on him." At this, he finally looked back up to Kakashi again. "...that's why I want dad to go back with him."
"That's true..." Kakashi leaned back in his seat and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "... I didn't think it would be possible to send people who are already dead." he replied calmly.
"I know. But this place...it does weird things. And one of them is that it can bring people back from the dead. Dad promised that we'd look for a way to bring back him, Hinata and Hotaru." Deals with the deities had already proved to be no use. But there were other ways. There had to be. And Naruto refused to believe otherwise.
"Hmm..." It didn't seem too farfetched, considering all the curses and such that happen in the city. There must be a day, or an opportunity where people already passed could be brought back. "Maa, I'll help in any way I can. Having sensei back would be..." Amazing sounded a little weird, coming from someone like Kakashi.
"...yeah." He couldn't begin to imagine how different things would've been if Arashi had been around, even those few years ago. Would half of the things that'd happened, still take place? Akatsuki. Orochimaru. Sasuke. How much would things have changed? "We'll find a way."
Would Arashi have been put back into power? ...Would they have even met Tsunade and Jiraiya again? "Things would be so different... But yes, we will."
He turned silent again, thinking to himself. Bringing Arashi back to life had been one of his top priorities since he'd heard about the city resurrecting people. However, there were a few problems he knew were going to happen along the way. Namely a certain group who his father had been quick to risk his life against. It was the nature of the city. Or more precisely, its inhabitants living so close to each other. "I already asked the deity things, but dad said we couldn't pay what they wanted."
