Summary; It's making up time for the pair, after an earlier argument sending each ninja off in their own ways.
Log;
Sasuke headed on his way back to the apartment where he was going to talk to Naruto. After his encounter with his brother before the curse happened, he was more worried about the other than he was angry right now, which was probably why he agreed to meet up with Naruto to let him explain about before. Several minutes later, Sasuke found himself standing in front of the apartment door, he reached forward and opened the door to head inside.
The room was silent, save for the slight rustle as Naruto turned to face the opening door. After the time spent away from Sasuke, he'd missed the other, and his expression was proof enough that he wasn't going to hide that fact. The time during the curse hadn't counted in his books. However, the arrival of the Uchiha brought around another problem. He was going to need to explain himself now. "...hey." How much was safe to tell him anyway?
After closing the door behind him, Sasuke looked towards Naruto as he entered the room, "Hey..."
Pushing himself up onto his feet, Naruto closed the gap between them, pausing a few, short feet away. It was only then that nerves took over. Hovering uneasily, he smiled slightly, unsure of what to do next. "Have...you eaten?" Well, it was a start.
Sasuke nodded in response, "Yeah, I did just before I came here"
"...oh." Another shift, and Naruto glanced back toward the sofa. A sigh, and a few seconds of decision-making later, and Naruto was reaching a hand out to Sasuke, tugging gently on his shirt. "C'mon."
Sasuke paused hesitantly as Naruto began to tug on his shirt, but soon followed the other, "..okay, I'm coming"
Heading over to the sofa, Naruto took a seat on one end, his feet folded up onto the seat as he faced Sasuke. "Have you been alright? I mean, with the curse and everything."
Sasuke sat down beside Naruto, looking thoughtful for a moment before he answered the other and turned to face him "Yeah, I'm been fine."
He turned silent once again, his gaze dropping to his lap. Why was this so difficult? They hadn't even started talking yet. "...Sasuke." A deep breath, and he forced himself to speak. "About...before. ...I'm sorry. I'm...really really sorry."
"Naruto..." Sasuke sighed, before shaking his head. For all that did happen, he just couldn't feel angry at the other anymore "It's okay, really..."
It was? His clear confusion was quickly replaced with a smile as he looked up at Sasuke. "...but still, I--" Cutting himself off, he instead reached a hand out toward Sasuke again. This time however, he moved to take a hold of his hand. "...I'm glad you came back."
"Yeah. I was just worried about you. Besides, I'm the one who should be sorry...I shouldn't have said those things to you and--" Sasuke stopped mid-sentence and looked down as Naruto took hold of his hand, and smiled slightly "...Yeah, I know"
"...I know." Despite the fact the two of them had been practically yelling at each other, some part of him still knew the reason behind it all. Having Sasuke remind him of the fact simply made it more prominent just then. "I should've just told you it all." His grip tightened briefly as he glanced away. "I'm gonna fix that though."
"Yeah...you should have" Sasuke looked up towards Naruto "...so what else is there that you didn't tell me?"
"...if I didn't go to see Aizen, I...don't know what he would've done to the others. Normally it'd be the shinigami who take care of him. But they were all cursed too." And the best way to distract the ex-captain had seemed to be a confrontation. Or at least, that'd been how it'd looked back then. "Aizen wants the same thing from me that Akatsuki want." A hand dropped to his stomach, a weak smile appearing on his face. "That's why...it had to be me."
Sasuke listened as Naruto spoke, with each thing the other said, it suddenly began to make sense to him why the Naruto did do what he did.
"...He does too?" He shook his head again, "Idiot. If you mentioned that to me before, I wouldn't have been as angry with you as I was then and it would have made sense to me why you did that"
"And if I'd told you, you'd have been okay with it? You would've just let me go ahead and fight him?" Somehow, he just couldn't see things being as simple as that.
"Sort of..." Sasuke began, "I mean, if you told me I would have known why you did that or would want to, but I wouldn't have wanted you to go ahead and fight him like you did"
"It wouldn't have made a difference then. I mean, you would've known, sure. But I couldn't..." He stopped himself yet again, shaking his head slightly. This wasn't going to result in another argument. Not again. "...I wont keep stuff like that from you again." Or at least, that was the theory.
"I think it would have. I would have a better understanding as to why, and besides, even if I wouldn't have wanted you to go fight him, I'd know you would have anyway, despite what I said" Sasuke sighed, "You'd better not...it only makes me worry when you do, you know"
"...what would you have done though? If I'd told you." He'd already said it himself, even if Sasuke hadn't wanted him to go, Naruto still would've. It was just in his nature to do so, if it meant protecting others. So what would Sasuke have done with the information, seeing as he wouldn't change his mind. "...I didn't mean to worry you."
"...I'm not sure" Sasuke paused. Honestly, he didn't really know what he would have done, but he just didn't like it when the other kept things from him. Moving slightly, he turned to face Naruto before he spoke again "Yeah. I know you didn't, but still..."
Sighing to himself, Naruto could only smile back at Sasuke. As much as he knew that keeping things from Sasuke was a bad idea, he also knew that telling him everything would possibly end up worse. "...m'sorry it took so long."
"It's okay..." Sasuke smiled slightly, "...so then that's everything, right? Or was there something else?"
"I...don't know. I mean, there's other stuff, but you... I already know you aren't gonna do the same thing, so it doesn't matter anymore." Not to mention that he'd already thought long and hard on the matter a couple of weeks before.
"Well...yeah, I guess it doesn't matter then" Sasuke said, a small tone of uncertainty in his voice, mostly because of what his brother said to him just recently when they encountered each other.
Shifting across the sofa, Naruto closed the gap between the two of them, sitting alongside Sasuke. Keeping his hold on the others hand, he gave a small smile, before looking down to his lap. "...are you okay?"
"I..." Sasuke paused, not sure how to answer Naruto's question, considering the whole reason he wasn't exactly okay right now, involved his brother. "Sort of,...but it's nothing though"
Sasuke's hesitation only served to worry the blond. Looking back up at him, Naruto frowned slightly. "...it's enough to bug you though."
Sasuke sighed, "Yeah, but that doesn't mean it's something you need to worry about though"
"That doesn't make it any better." Squeezing Sasuke's hand for attention, he shook his head. "If it's worrying you, don't you think it's gonna worry me too?" Afterall, it was pretty much the same as they'd just been talking about.
Sasuke felt Naruto squeeze his hand, and he looked up at the other "Well yeah, I know that...it's just something my brother said to me a few days ago that got to me"
His...brother? "Itachi?" He couldn't keep the anger from his voice at the mere fact that Sasuke and Itachi had spoken. Even if Sasuke looked to be perfectly okay now. "A few days ago? Was it during the high school curse thing?" He hoped he was both right and wrong about his assumption. If it was during the curse, at least nothing much would've happened. But if it wasn't... "What did he say?"
"Yeah...though it was before that curse, the day after we got into we got into the argument" Sasuke said, avoiding looking at Naruto, "He...said a lot of things mostly stuff...about you, some things about me. I tried to ignore him and not let it get to me, but I guess that didn't work..."
That long ago and Sasuke hadn't told him anything? Annoyed would be an understatement. But he knew, complaining about the delay would be a mistake. Afterall, he was guilty of the same thing a few times already. "...what did he say?" Or more precisely, what had he said that'd affected him that much?
"I told you he said a lot of things..." Sasuke said, finally looking up, "What do you want to know?"
"I want to know what he said that's getting to you still. I want to know what you can't ignore." He paused, leaning gently against Sasuke's side. "I want to know if there's any way to help."
"Well most of the stuff he's said about me, I'm sure you've already heard him say it before" Sasuke thought about it for a moment before he spoke, "I told him that I wasn't going to go after him...he said he should have killed me, and then he kept going on about mentioning going after you"
"...oh." He couldn't help but be surprised at Sasuke's admission. He wasn't going to be going after Itachi anymore, despite everything that'd already happened. Naruto found himself unsure as to whether to be happy or worried about that fact. "...we'll be okay. He isn't going to touch any of us." Not again.
"You know he was surprised at that too, about the fact I didn't want to. Though that's because he's been wanting me to, I don't want to do that just because he says so, even if it makes him right about me..." Sasuke shook his head, "Yeah, I hope so. I just wish sometimes that I could at least do something though..."
"Itachi doesn't know anything. He doesn't know you. Not now. So you being able to make your own decisions about things, doesn't make him right about anything." Smiling slightly, his thoughts moved on to the idea of trying to do something. Short of either facing Itachi when the time came, or turning tail and running, there wasn't much of a choice. "We'll think of something."
"Yeah, I guess you're right" Sasuke said, though he wasn't too convinced of that. He moved slightly to put his arms around Naruto, "Yeah, hopefully we will..."
Nestling himself comfortably against Sasuke, Naruto grinned lazily. It felt like forever since he'd been able to just sit with Sasuke, without the aid of a curse. It was something he refused to miss out on again by messing things up. "...as long as we work together, nothing's gonna happen."
"Yeah, it better not..." Sasuke sighed softly, "I don't want anything to happen to you again"
It went without saying that Naruto felt the exact same way. He refused to let anything happen to Sasuke. Not again. Not after everything that'd already happened in the months they'd been there. The only trouble was, that idea in itself would most likely be the downfall in the other side of their idea. If it meant protecting Sasuke, he had no clue what he'd be willing to do.
