Log;
Sasuke left his apartment and began walking, not really heading for somewhere in particular, he just felt like it would help to clear his head. He had temporarily moved back into his old apartment after his agruement with Naruto the day before, just to get some space from the other and to get his thoughts together about the whole situtation. He was caught between being angry and worried about the other, but what he actually felt, he wasn't really sure.

It wasn't as though he was looking for his brother. Far from it, in fact. However it seemed that in this City, coming across unexpected persons was a normal thing. Thus it was that crimson eyes whirled, their hypnotic gaze boring into the back of Sasuke's head from Itachi's perched form on top of the streetlight.

Sasuke...

The recent arrival of not one, but two more Uchiha clan members in the City was a source of great irritation to the Akatsuki, as was the presence of this "Suigetsu" character that seemed inclined to interfere. And while Kisame's presence was a welcome distraction, Itachi was one who did not like being irritated.

As Sasuke walking forward, he paused momentarily in his tracks. He could sense his brother was nearby, but after what happened last time they crossed , be didn't really feel like acknowledging his presense right then.

Smirking slightly, Itachi kept his gaze fixed on the back of his brother's head.

"Out late tonight, Sasuke? I would have thought you might know better then that."

Dropping to the ground softly, he simply regarded his brother with a level gaze.

Sasuke rolled his eyes, as his brother spoke before approaching him "Yeah, well, I couldn't get any sleep, not that would be any concern of yours though. What do you want?"

"Remembering the past, I assume. That must haunt you badly, as it does Shisui."

He couldnt resist toying with his brother nearly every chance he got. And this time was no different. Especially considering that something was obviously bothering Sasuke. Yet more ammunition for the older Uchiha to use.

"Hn. It has nothing to do with the past," Sasuke shook his head.

Itachi smirked slightly, one eyebrow raising. "Problems at home, Little Brother? Your pet running around on you? Must be difficult, keeping a leash on that one."

At that Sasuke looked up, scowling at the other "Shut up. There are no problems, everything is just fine"

"Oh really? I would hesitate to think so, given the way you're skulking around here. Little fox ditch you for a new playmate? Afterall, he does have a tendancy to do things without thinking, doesn't he?"

Whether it was true or not, Itachi didn't know. He DID know, from the attention he paid to the network, that things between his brother and the blond shinobi didn't seem to be as kosher as they normally were.

"I told you that was because I couldn't sleep, it has nothing to do with anyone" Sasuke said calmly. Despite how close to the truth his brother's words were, he would not give him the satisfaction of seeing that his words got to him.

"Oh really? I seem to get a different feel from the network. Perhaps I should pay him a visit?" He knew his brother well enough to tell that the calm facade was just that. A facade.

Sasuke froze at his brother's last statement, before his expression changed again to a scowl "Don't you dare...just leave him alone!"

Chuckling slightly at Sasuke's sudden change in attitude, the smirk on the Uchiha's face simply grew.

"Well, if you seem to be loathe to cooperate, perhaps he will be. I really must take the time to visit him."

"I said don't. Leave him out of this" Sasuke clentched his fist, as if trying to contain his anger "Why are you so interested in what I'm doing right now, anyway? Just want do you want?"

"Oh, just keeping up with my family. Especially since there seem to be even more of them showing up lately. Or haven't you noticed?"

"Family, huh? Yeah, of course I noticed" Sasuke looked up at the other, "Hn. Why are you so concerned about family now? It didn't matter to you before, you know, since you killed off everyone"

The smirk turned into a cruel grin. "Because it seems I did a rather shoddy job. A job that perhaps I should rectify yet again.

"Not really, you did kill them, they're just here because the city lets dead people seem alive here" Sasuke paused momentarily, "You should know that, since you're still here and all"

One hand shot out, black-nails curling into dark blue cloth as he lifted Sasuke off of the ground to level red eyes against black. "Indeed. Perhaps you'd like to join us in that understanding?"

The sudden movement as his brother's hand shot out, gripping his clothing to lift him up to eye level, Sasuke sighed, "No. Not particularly. I just find it surprising that it happened, that's all"

Crimson eyes caught the faint flash of irritation in the boy's eyes, realization setting in. So, Sasuke didn't like it that someone else had gotten to his brother before he did, did he?

"Hn. As if something as worthless as you could have even hoped to kill me. You're weak, Sasuke. You lack hatred. In fact, being in this place has only served to make you even weaker. Soft."

Sasuke just frowned in response to the truth of his brother's words. It was obvious that his brother knew it bothered him that someone else had gotten to kill him before he did. However, that was just part of it, the other reason, well though he would never admit it to the other or think about, especially since his words had some truth in them. "Shut up! I do hate you, but killing you? That's not something I want to do"

Well, if Sasuke had wanted to say something that would shock his older brother, he'd certainly managed it. To his credit, the Akatsuki allowed no emotion to colour his features as he simply stared at his younger brother, crooking one eyebrow.

"Indeed? Surprising. Perhaps I made a mistake in leaving you alive. You certainly weren't worth killing, but now I can't help but feel you are even more worthless alive."

Sasuke shifted slightly in his brother's grip, "Surprising? That's because you're not the one I'm meant to kill. Hn. Is that why you kept me alive then?"

A slight smirk cracked across the elder Uchiha's face.

"I see. Because I am not the Itachi from your time, is that it?"

Leaning close, he whispered in Sasuke's ear. "I would have thought you'd make an exception, given my actions in this City. As for why I allowed you to live? Call it...curiosity. I merely wished to see if one so pathetic and worthless as you could ever hope to become worthy of notice."

Sasuke flinched as his brother leaned closer "You...I hate you for all you've done to me while we're here. Though you've already decided I'm so worthless and pathetic, so I really don't get the reason behind your curiousity. Besides, you keep saying I'm all those thing and not worth noticing, yet here you are talking to me right now..."

"Curiosity, as you put it, is merely one pathway to information. In this case, your apparent wish to not kill me seems to contradict everything you have said in our past encounters. I wonder what has caused that. Perhaps a visit to a certain blue-eyed shinobi is in order, so that I might understand the reasons"

"You should be happy I'm not anymore, I mean since you already have so many other people wanting to do the same" Sasuke said, the tone of his voice soon changing as his brother mentioned Naruto, "You...I told you to leave him out of this!"

"Give me one good reason why I should, Little Brother. After all, it isn't you who is valuable to our organization. It is him. You are nothing more then mere trash." Releasing his hand, he allowed his brother's form to drop to the concrete.

As his brother released his hand, Sasuke looked down, suddenly at a loss for words, not really sure what to say to his brother. "...Even if I did give you a reason, I doubt you would even listen to me"

"Indulge me, Sasuke. You might say something worth listening to, for once." It really did intrigue him, in a way. His little brother had spent so many years hating him, rightfully so, to Itachi's delight, and now....that hatred had somehow dissolved? It didn't make sense, but then that was what the Uchiha found interesting, wasn't it?

Sasuke looked at his brother surprised at the fact he was giving him a chance to tell him. However, he knew the other probably only use the reason against him, even if he said it. "Why? You've never listened to me, so I doubt this will be any different"

One eyebrow raised slightly as Itachi shook his head and clicked his tongue in the same manner as a teacher would to a scolded child. "Indeed. And who was it who spoke up to Father on your behalf when you were a child? And yet you claim I never listen. How disheartening."

"Well, you don't" Sasuke shook his head, " You may have done that, but that wasn't because you were listening to me, you did those things to make it seem like you cared, when you didn't"

Itachi rolled his eyes. "As if you ever had any understanding of my mind, Little Brother."

"Hn. I didn't say I did, not that I'd even want to anyway" Sasuke frowned, "That's just what I think"

"Perhaps. Though if you don't want to know, then why do you always seem so interested in my motives?" Whether Sasuke cared or not didn't really matter, it was just a bit amusing to watch.

Sasuke clentched his fist, "I didn't mean it like that. The only reason I want to know your motives are because of the things you've done, or will do, like...going after Naruto"

"Hn. No matter, then. I'll simply be on my way. Off to "evil plots", as I'm sure you're convinced I create." He wasn't really leaving, just seeing if he could manage to rattle his brother. "Or perhaps I'll pay a visit to little sister. She really needs to be taught a lesson in the company she keeps."

"...Sister?" Sasuke looked at the other skeptically, "What are you talking about?"

"Of course. Although Little Sister would be Big Sister to you, I suppose. Though if you wish to know..." Leaning close, he caught two fingers under Sasuke's chin, lifting the boy up to stare him in the eye. "Information comes at a price."

"Right, and what would that be?" Sasuke fliched again as his brother leaned closer.

"Well, that's for you to decide, Sasuke. What would you consider to be intel of comparable value?" He was going to let Sasuke determine what he wanted to share, see just how badly the boy wanted to know the info Itachi possessed.

"For me to decide? Can't you ever give me a straight answer?!" Sasuke glared at his brother, "I don't know what would be considered the same value as that. For all I know, you could just be making this up"

"And why would I do that?" With a shrug, he turned and picked up his discarded hat, placing it back on his head. "Though I must say, she's far more useful to us then you would ever have been, little brother. And blind devotion is even easier to manipulate then blind hatred."

"Hn. You know perfectly well why I hate you. Though, like I'd want to be someone you just use like that." Sasuke frowned "Oh and as for this person you're calling your sister. The only person that I could guess that you're talking about is that girl who you lied to and told that I killed our clan instead of you, since she thought so highly of you..."

Itachi smirked, shaking his head. "I think you might find that she doesnt see it the same way as you do. Unlike you, she never held any illusions that I am a "nice man". However, that's the way innocence is. So easy to twist and corrupt if you know the right tools."

"So I'm right?" Sasuke paused, "Hn. Like I care. I noticed that when she met me a few months ago..."

"Of course you don't care. Why would you? Afterall, the one who cares about her, who wants to take her with him, is your little bedroom-toy." He was really just playing with Sasuke now, just trying to find anything to say or do to cause even the smallest degree of mental trauma. Because truthfully, being dead was getting boring.

"Well if he wants to do that, that's fine with me, but it is none of my concern. And will you stop calling him that" Sasuke said, slightly irritated.

Itachi shrugged, feigning amused disinterest. "Of course it isn't your concern. Though I somehow can't help but wonder how hurt he might be to find out you care so little about what happens to someone he calls friend. But no matter. It isn't as though I care. In fact, I can't help but think the idea sounds rather appealing."

"Just shut up" Sasuke said, he tried to hold it back, but the anger was still clear in his voice, "If you don't care then why are you still going on about it?"

"Because you obviously care about it a great deal. Or rather, you care a great deal about truths which you don't wish to hear." Unlike Sasuke, Itachi had the easy way of maintaining an air of perfect calm about him, regardless of whether he was shoving a kunai through warm entrails, twisting a psyche with the Mangekyo, or simply having a bit of amusement by getting inside his brother's head.

Sasuke shook his head, "No...what makes you think that?"

"Hn." He smirked, one hand flashing out to hook underneath Sasuke's chin and haul the boy up onto his tiptoes. "You're so transparent, Little Brother."

From when his brother did that, Sasuke immediately attempted to push his brother away, "Okay, fine go ahead and think that I'm transparent or whatever, just stop that"

"Stop doing what, Sasuke?" Keeping his expression neutral, he didn't release his grip on Sasuke's chin, pulling the boy further off his feet.

"I mean stop what you're doing now,...let me go" Sasuke said, angrily, as he tried to push Itachi away again.

Itachi simply stared at Sasuke for a moment before releasing his grip and letting the boy drop. This was growing boring. Turning away from Sasuke, he paused to glance over his shoulder. "Perhaps it's time I turn my attention towards more...intersting pursuits then this. Little sister is, after all a very good pupil."

As Itachi finally released his grip on him, Sasuke looked up towards the other "Fine, whatever. Just go and leave me alone for once"

Itachi studied his brother for a moment before one hand grasped the fabric of Sasuke's collar and hauled him up into the air to crush lips against Sasuke's. There wasnt any real feeling behind it, or any good reason. Just the knowledge that such an act would be traumatic to his brother.

The sudden movement surprised Sasuke, as he felt his brother's lips against his own, he cringed and shuddered in disgust at the act. He pulled away so that Itachi was no longer kissing him; he was speechless at first, the words just barely managing to speak coherently at first "That...y-you bastard. What the hell did you do that for?"

A cruel smirk as he dropped Sasuke again. "No particular reason, Little Brother. I simply decided to." Leaving Sasuke to ponder this, he slid the straw hat back onto his head and turned away, heading off down the street.

Sasuke looked at his brother, partly confused as the other just started to walk away as he was dropped to the ground. "What?! There had to be a reason, you can't just do thatjust because you decide to all of a sudden"

Itachi paused, glancing back over his shoulder at his brother once again and shook his head. "No. There doesn't have to be one. That's your own reasoning, Little Brother. I have all the reasoning that I need." Whether he actually had reasoning beyond "I felt like it and it bothers you" was anyone's guess. Either way, Itachi was going to keep that reasoning to himself. Turning his attention back to the street in front of him, he continued off into the bustle of people.
