Summary; Isshin stops by to see Ichigo, but gets Shinji instead.
Isshin whistled to himself as he made his way to his son's apartment. He knew that Ichigo wasn't there at the moment, it was nearly impossible to miss his son's reiatsu. The man had a feeling that Nell would be wherever Ichigo was, so that left either Rukia-chan or Shinji to talk to. Isshin would be satisfied with either; he was intensely curious about meeting a vaizard but he also loved talking with his dear Rukia-chan.
As he walked, he wondered just how long he should keep this charade up. Part of him was afraid that once Ichigo knew what he was, his son would be angry at him, not so much for keeping the secret but for failing to protect Masaki. Still... he couldn't lie to his son forever, but he wasn't sure if it was time for Ichigo to hear the trust. That would have to come later.
For now, Isshin wanted to have a fun little chat with one of his son's roommates. He was a little bored and that was usually fun AND informative. Especially when they helped him think of ways to embarrass his son. Some people may think that would be cruel but any good father knew that embarrassing your son (never your daughters, daughters were a special case) helped build character.
"Helloooooo~!" Isshin called out as he knocked on the door to Ichigo's apartment. "Ichigo, your loving father has stopped by for a visit!!! Open up so that we can have special father-son bonding time together, as is only befitting men and position of our age! Do not shirk from your father's love!!!"

Closing the door of the fridge with a kick, Shinji turned towards the living room, eyeing the apartment's door warily. He could already feel the reiatsu approaching from the other side, though he wasn't sure of it's owner. Making the effort to figure it was saved by the loud voice that accompanied the knocking. Huh. Maybe he'd find a way to occupy his time after all.
Grin on his face, Shinji crossed the room and grabbed the doorknob, arms spreading as he pulled it open.
"Dad! Welcome home~~~! I missed ya'!"

"Shinji-kun~!" he said, wiping a tear from his eyes. "It brings me great joy to know that my son has taken a friend in need under his roof! Just from talking to you on the journals I can tell you're the best of people!"

Stepping back he allowed Isshin to enter the room, closing the door behind him. So this was the famous Isshin Kurosaki, eh? It was interesting finally meeting someone he'd heard so much about. Keen eyes maintained a smiling expression while he concentrated to focus on the older man's spiritual energy. It was true~ definitely captain material. Muscles twitching, Shinji had to work to contain his glee-- this was the man Ichigo had gotten it all from. Somehow, someday, sparring with him would be an option.
"Ichigo's been just swell puttin' me up with a place to stay. Makes me feel right at home!" Shinji perched himself on the couch, choosing to sit on the arm rather than the cushion its self. "Unfortunately, he's not home now...but I'm sure you already knew that~♥"

"Haha, perhaps I did Shinji-kun!" Isshin declared. "He's not as good as some people about masking who he is."
The man thought it was only fair that since Shinji let Isshin know he was aware of the man's abilities, Isshin returned the favor. He trusted the young man not to let on who he was.
"And were does my wonderful son sleep?" Isshin asked. "It would be a horrible shame to not take full advantage of everyone's absence. I am sure you were somewhat of a prankster during your days at the Academy! Let us not waste anymore time new son of mine!"

"Down the hall, Dad!," was the enthusiastic reply as he slid from his seat, swallowing the last bits of fruit. "Lemme' show ya' tha' way."
Free hand in his pocket, the other keeping a lazy grip on his lunch, Shinji lead the older man in the direction of his son's room. He came to a stop outside the door, leaving Isshin to do the honors.
"After you~!"

He knew that the act was horribly juvenile, but Isshin couldn't help himself. He was juvenile. If you didn't let yourself let loose a little bit and have some fun you'd end up... well, like his son. Wound up so tight you were about to snap at any second.
Before he started though, there was something he needed to do first.
"Attack of the loving father!" he shouted suddenly, springing through the air as he aimed a kick at the -hopefully- unsuspecting Shinji.

When it came down to it, who wanted to be normal, anyway? Normal was boring. Strange was fun. It was a simple equation. Shinji found a little part of himself almost envying Ichigo for being the recipient of such extreme displays of affection...almost.
Quick reflexes helped Shinji parry the attack, thin arms coming up to block the foot aimed at his face. The force of momentum sent his body stumbling back. Ichigo's flooring didn't seem to do much for traction, his foot catching the tail end of a discarded t-shirt.
"You treat all your kids like this?," Shinji asked, chuckling from his position on the floor. "It's a wonder they don't--"
His eyes widened slightly as he caught sight of his empty hands. "Damn! I lost my apple, too?"
no subject
"Hah, I only treat my sons this way," Isshin said. "My darling daughters are a very different matter!"
Isshin looked down and saw the expression on Shinji's face at the loss of the apple. Judging from the boys physique, he desperately needed that apple as well.
"Tch, if it was so important you should have thought of that before you dropped it," Isshin suggested. "Or held on to it and just took the blow. Now stop loitering around, there is work to be done!"

Still, it was hard to stay in a bad mood with Isshin's infectious attitude. Ichigo'd probably find the apple later and take care of it. Along with the pony, it was just another gift one friend to another.
Shinji walked over to the bed, grasping the bedsheets to pull them back. "Don't call it work~ it ya' do that, it takes the fun outta it!"
no subject
"But if it's fun for us, then it becomes cruel to Ichigo," Isshin explained. "We are doing this for his own good really, as a loving family we must help Ichigo loosen up!"
While his justification might be in jest, that didn't make it any less true that Ichigo needed to relax some. It wasn't healthy, physically or mentally, to be that tense and high strung all the time. Sooner or later, he would snap.
"So how do you keep from getting all weird after doing what you do for so long?" Isshin asked. "Especially without the resources of our former occupation?"

Shinji stepped back from the mattress, eyes scanning the room for another 'artistic' outlet. Apparently Ichigo was just as shitty as any normal teenage boy when it came to keepin' his room clean. Needless to say overturnin' his drawers on the ground was out.
"Dad," the vaizard sang out, partially from the excitement of a newly formed idea and partially to change the subject. "Don't ya' think Ichi needs a lesson in hygiene?" He took a step towards a door to his right.
Certainly the bathroom wasn't sacred ground..
