Log;

The words replayed in his head as he closed the lid of his laptop. He couldn't say that to her, he had to go and collect her. At least with everyone talking of dead bodies he had a good enough excuse to be a little on edge. Even though it was a cover for how he was really feeling. It wasn't long before he was out of the door, and literally taking the steps through the building three at a time to reach the bottom as quickly as was humanly possible. Though he had to hold onto the railings thanks to his lessened co-ordination.

The door flung open before him, almost as if he hadn't even touched it, and he ran towards the centre of the city, coat floating out behind him. It was quite a distance from his building to the fountain, when he thought about it. Roy wasn't really thinking straight though. His only thoughts were of the fact that he was running to Riza. Realisation hit him squarely in the head about three quarters into his journey, and he slowed to a speed that might have passed for a jog.

Where had this need come from? This ache? He had to remain chilled and calm. If Hawkeye noticed anything different about his actions she would soon pick up on it, and that would be when the questions would start to be asked. He sighed a steadying breath, but before he knew it he had rounded the corner that led into the open space before the fountain. The frown fell from his face the moment he set eye on his First Lieutenant, and he began to walk smoothly to where she stood.

Riza fumed as she stood next to the fountain, still holding a bowl of soup she had brought with her into the City. That man. She should have tied him down to the damn bed to make sure he'd stay there. Though knowing him he would have found a way out somehow.

She was surprised when she finally spotted him. He looked completely healed. Well, except for that eye. Instinct told her to salute, but she reminded herself that this was hardly necessary.

"Sir," Riza said, her eyebrows furrowing grouchily, "I thought I told you to stay in bed."

Riza started to pull the bowl away until she got more answered, but Mustang's informing her of the gap in time was a shock. She blinked and numbly let him take the soup, trying to make sense of what he just said.

"Not... entirely..." she said dumbly. It sort of made sense. It certainly explained why he looked so much better. But...

"...So what should I call you now, sir?" Riza asked, protocol taking over while the rest of her brain tried to sort things out.

Riza looked at Mustang in surprise, but nodded.

"Of course, sir," she said, incredibly curious now, but not about to press for more. Yet.

Suddenly Riza wondered if Havoc was from two years later as well. And Full Metal. ...Come to think of it, she had heard that Full Metal disappeared.

She was finding herself more and more clueless and it was beginning to irritate her.

"Lead the way, sir," Riza said, trying to keep the aggravation out of her tone.

Riza took a moment to look around before raising an eyebrow in surprise at Mustang.

"Why?" she asked, obediently taking a seat. "You're starting to scare me a little, Col-- sir."

Riza listened quietly before getting up and walking over so she was standing directly above Mustang.

"Permission to speak freely, sir?" she said, fully aware that she wasn't in uniform, but not about to let that keep her from being polite.

Riza nodded her head once and then slapped him. Not hard, just enough to make sure she had his attention.

"Snap out of it, Mustang," she said firmly. "You did what you had to do and might have saved all of us because of it. I won't let you brood over it anymore. After all, it's been two years for you."

She paused and her eyes softened slightly.

"Now eat that soup I brought you. Even if it is two years old."

"Good," Riza said, smirking a little. "Next time I'll hit you harder."

She pointedly ignored the fact that her heart fluttered when Mustang's hand went to her shoulder and cocked an eyebrow.

"Depends on what you mean by poison, sir."

"If you've been living on canned meals as the case appears to be, of course you'd think it's good," Riza said, dodging the compliment. "But I'm glad you like it."

Riza glanced around the apartment again.

"I suppose I should start looking for a place to stay, myself," she mused aloud. "It sounds crowded here. Who did you say you were staying with, again?"

[identity profile] hawkeyedsoldier.livejournal.com 2007-06-20 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Uni--" Riza began in surprise, but what Mustang said next might has well have been a punch to the face. She stared at him in silence and suddenly became aware of the possibility that this could be some sort of bizarre dream.

"...What."

[identity profile] hawkeyedsoldier.livejournal.com 2007-06-20 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Riza just blinked at him. This place was ridiculous. Though she supposed the fact that she found it in the bedroom should have tipped her off about that. She focused when Mustang offered her a room.

"...I don't want to cramp your style, sir. Especially if you're already living with two other people. ...And some unicorns."

Riza's eyebrows went up and she had to fight a smile.

"Yes, sir," she said with a salute. "I didn't realize you had missed me that much."

She meant it to sound teasing, but just by watching Mustang, she could tell that there was some truth to it, at least. If anything... she was glad he wanted her enough to speak her language.

[identity profile] hawkeyedsoldier.livejournal.com 2007-06-20 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Riza was both touched and amused to know she'd been missed by him, but she didn't say anything.

"Yes," she replied. "And it was getting harder to keep you from getting up. And--"

She stopped dead, a horrified look on her face.

"Hayade! He didn't come with me! No one knows I'm gone yet!"

[identity profile] hawkeyedsoldier.livejournal.com 2007-06-20 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Riza started to give Mustang a withering look, but stopped. Had he just reached for her? And if he had, why did he stop? Because he didn't want to touch her, or because he wanted to and didn't want her to know he wanted to?

Riza stopped herself before she confused herself any further.

"...Right," she said awkwardly. "Sorry, sir. I'm sure someone will come looking for me and find him."
