Log:
He came down the street wearing sneakers with no socks and untied laces, which was about the best anyone could ask of him in terms of footwear. The young detective had his hands in his pockets and once he saw Light he drew out two items: handcuffs and a small jar of ripe cherries.

Stuffing his hands into his pockets, his eyes narrowed slightly as he eyed the detective warily, making sure that he kept a good distance away from him. "What are you planning, Ryuzaki?"
no subject
L paused a few paces away and chewed on his thumbnail thoughtfully before walking over to the balustrade on the landing of a nearby building. "I'm sure they won't mind me borrowing this for one moment."
He crouched by the bars and with a clinking sound handcuffed himself to the balustrade. Without turning to face his companion he held up his free hand.
"Now open the jar and hand me a cherry."

Giving L a completely disbelieving look, Light took a step forward. "Ryuzaki--" Such a thing was completely in his nature, but to test something like this on himself... it was so patentedly L that Light can't help but protest. Or, at least some form of it, because he himself wanted to see the results as well.
Though, on hindsight, he supposed he should have brought something to knock Ryuzaki out with if he got out of hand - or worse, loose - when the effects start to kick in.
Dying once was bad enough, thank you very much.
"It's too dangerous. Who knows what other unforeseen effects it might have on you?"

"From what I've heard curses in the City are merely temporary. However, this one in particular may be responsible for the deaths in Xanadu."
He shuffled his feet.
"If the killings are due to something so simple as a supposed curse then I need to know. Otherwise, they are the results of Man. I won't believe anything I hear until I've tried it for myself. If I become too violent, Light-kun has my permission to knock me out. I know how your punches are."
He pinched his fingertips together.
"Now, a cherry, please."

Watching him carefully, not too disturbed by his unreadable expression - L almost always looked like this, and he felt a strange kind of familiarity that he immediately pushed away - Light simply plucked out a cherry from the jar and handed it to him, the sickening scent of the fruit almost making him wrinkle his nose in distaste.
"Good point." Observing him curiously, Light took a few careful steps back, safely out of range should L decide to lash out.

For a moment it seemed that nothing was happening then L visibly perked and smiled at his companion.
"Ah, we should visit the park!"
no subject
Eyeing him suspiciously, seeing the change in the other man, Light simply asked as he leaned back against the wall of the porch. "Why?"
Was it affecting him? Chances were that it most probably would be, and that his sudden perkiness was one instance of him faking it. L was a very good pretender, after all.

"The bodies are at the tree. I need to discover the causes of their deaths."
no subject
He sat down opposite him, observing his companion carefully. "How are you feeling?"
no subject
"I'm feeling like I want to go to the tree, Yagami-kun" he said, casting his dark gaze towards Light.
"I feel that I must."
no subject
"I'm not releasing you, L." Light met his gaze squarely, noting the strange darkness within them. So, it was definitely affecting him, after all. "You're staying here."
no subject
"RELEASE ME!"

Still straddling his legs as he looped the tie around the railing, securely strapping him in place, Light glared down angrily at his companion, almost snarling. L was definitely under it's effects, all right, and it was almost frightening.
Almost.
"Control yourself, detective."
no subject
He writhed a bit and hissed fevered words that stemmed both from the curse and from his memories. "Builds your dreams of dead thoughts. Comes crying laughing singing back to life, takes what you steal, and pulls the skins from your dead bones shrieking...Woe to he who defies the tree..."
no subject
Hands moving to shake the other's bony shoulders, Light snapped. Handling a crazed L was not fun, and he was beginning to wish for the completely grating, frustrating one back - because at least that was the one he recognized. "Listen to yourself, Ryuzaki!"
no subject
"Xanadu...We must...Heeheehehe! Light-kun!"
When he lifted his elbow and peaked up at his friend, his eyes were wide. Silently, he was asking Light to strike him down.
no subject
But then again, that was L. This one...
This one was not L.
His eyes softened almost imperceptibly when he saw the other's wide, wide eyes. For a long moment, Light couldn't look away. L was there, L was inside somewhere, drowning in the curse. His rival, the most loathed enemy...
...The closest thing to a friend Yagami Light would ever have.
It was a strange sort of relationship that they shared, that either one would destroy the other if the chance so much as presented itself, and yet, a deeper, more intangible sort of understanding bound the two of them to each other in ways that neither one would probably ever begin to fathom.
And it was with this understanding, this awareness of what his friend wanted him to do that Light pulled his fist back and gave him a solid punch.

Really, even after the whole dying and being knocked unconscious thing, the detective still managed to be a major pain in his ass.
