Summary; Hisagi is forced asked to go drinking. And they do.
Log;

Hisagi sits, and fiddles. He doesn’t like being idol. Not that this place isn’t a busy one, the City. It’s full of activity. Captains are appearing, disappearing, losing their memories, regaining them.

He wonders if they can keep it together.

By the looks of it, they can’t.

That’s okay. He’ll deal with it the best he can.

Hisagi sits, and fiddles, and messes around with the television. Such a strange little box. He checks the computer, too, it’s a good way to keep tabs on people.

Hisagi sits. He doesn’t have much to do tonight.

Kiyone had had it.

She'd had it with everyone going out for drinks and not inviting her. She hadn't the slightest idea why no one ever extended an offer to her to go get drunk, especially when her sister seemed to be the main one doing so, lately. It was the same thing, time after time- Isane would come home drunker than Kiyone ever thought was possible, all the while leaving her little sister in the apartment, all alone and... worst of all, sober.

It wasn't the slightest bit fair, Kiyone thought, though the more she dwelled on the idea, the more she began to realize how unfair it was to others who were uninvited, like... Hisagi. He hadn't been there very long, but Kiyone couldn't remember a single instance in which the vice-captain had been asked to go out by any of the others.

It was a travesty, she told herself as she knocked on the door the apartment she vaguely remembered as belonging to both Hisagi and Hinamori. She figured if she was lucky, she could get them both to go out with her. The more the merrier, wasn't that how the human saying went? Time to test it out.

Kiyone shifted her weight from foot to foot as she waited for Hisagi to open the door. Ever impatient, she raised her hand to knock again just as the door began to crack open. She lowered her hand and pushed quickly by the other shinigami and took a quick look around the apartment. She stifled a 'so this is where you live,' and smiled at Hisagi, saying only, "I hope you're ready!"

The third-seat stared at him for a moment. Just because she didn't have quite the reputation Rangiku had for knocking back a few drinks didn't mean she wasn't known at all for it. She was tempted to tell him, in all seriousness, that they were going to sit with Nemu for a lecture on the importance of washing one's hands. But knowing Hisagi, he would take it in all serious, and so Kiyone refrained from making the joke.

Instead she smiled more broadly and announced that she was taking him out drinking, and there were no ifs, ands, or buts that could get him out if it.

Kiyone's expression lost a bit of enthusiasm at Hisagi's question. Which bar would they go to? She had never been to any of the bars in the City; she mostly drank from her stash, which Isane and Ikkaku had been so kind as to drain dry.

But from what she had seen on the network, there were plenty of bars all over a City, and if they just went out and walk around, they were sure to come across one sooner or later.

"Why, the first one we come to, of course!" She reached out and pulled on the other shinigami's arm. "C'mon! Let's go!"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Kiyone released his arm long enough to allow him to retrieve his blade. It made sense that at least one of them should be well armed. She had her zanpakutou, but nothing more, still under the deities thumb for her trade.

When he'd secured his blade, she again tugged on his arm, pulling the other shinigami towards the door. "Come on," she whined. "Think of all the drinks we haven't drunk, yet! We'd better get them before everyone else does!"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Kiyone followed through on her intention to pick the first bar they came to. She all but dragged Hisagi in a dark bar, whose name she wasn't too sure of, the neon lights outside dim and almost unreadable. The name of a bar didn't matter anyways, so long as it had a good amount of great sake.

She chose their seats, perching on top of a stool in front of a long counter and patting the stool next to her.

"I hope you're ready, Hisagi, because we're not going home for awhile!"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
The third-seat dismissed the menu with a shake of her head. "We don't need that," she told Hisagi, leaning over the counter and waving her arm enthusiasically.

"Hey! Bring us some sake, and lots of it!" Kiyone called rather loudly to the man behind the bar, adding, almost as and afterthought, "Thanks!" She settled back on her stool and turned to the other shinigami with a grin. "Is sake alright with you?"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope!" she answered, scanning the room. She didn't recognize any of the other patrons and was glad to be in Hisagi's company. It wouldn't do to be the only female in a bar all alone with no one she knew.

"Ah- Look! Here comes the sake!" Kiyone swung her legs happily beneath the counter as the bartender lay two small dishes of the rice wine in from of them. She picked up her own and held it up. "Here's to... Here's to what, Hisagi?"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Kiyone made sure to drain her dish before turning to question Hisagi. "What do you mean 'to getting out of here'? We've only had one drink!" She again waved at the bartender, signaling for another round.

"I think it's more like... To getting away from Isane for a night!"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
"You've only had to suffer her for vice-captain meetings. Try living with her. Especially when she won't let you out of the apartment!" Kiyone threw back the next round of sake, and no sooner had the bartender turned away than she called to him for another.

"Ah- Maybe you should just leave the bottle!" she told him as he left to retrieve more alcohol. Kiyone smiled at Hisagi. She didn't plan to leave until she couldn't see straight.

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Nonono," she corrected him, already beginning to slur her words. "She doesn't want me to leave because she doesn't want me to go see Masaki. That's why it's so hard to live with her."

She patted him on the shoulder as he instructed the man behind the bar. "You're a good man, Hisagi. I knew it was right to bring you with me."

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Kiyone hit the bar with an open hand. "There is nothing wrong with Masaki being human. I mean, sure I could be exiled for being with him, but- I say it doesn't count if we're not home, right?" She downed a little more sake and leaned over the bar.

"Why are you worried, Hisagi?"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Kiyone grew quiet, running her finger along the rim of her sake dish. "I know... I know what risks I'm taking." She refilled her dish and emptied it, and then filled it again.

"But," she said, raising the sake to her lips, "maybe the risk is worth the consequence?" She shook her head. "Or something like that."

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Another round!" Kiyone agreed. She threw her arms up in the air and started to lose her balance, catching herself on the bar just before she could slip off of the stool.

"I usually don't start falling until later," she assured the other shinigami. "But I guess now's as good a time as any!"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Kiyone patted him again on the shoulder. "Good man, Hisagi, but I caught myself."

She pushed the sake around on the bar in front of her and said wisely, "The reason Isane doesn't like me being with Masaki is because she's jealous. That's what it is!" she said, empasizing her point by slamming her fist on the bar. It wasn't likely that she'd remember anything she or Hisagi said later, but it was hard to get a drunk Kiyone to deviate from a topic once she'd set her mind on it.

"She's jealous that I have somebody to love and she doesn't, since Kira left."

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't sound so surprised, jeez, Hisagi." Kiyone covered her mouth to stifle a laugh. "Everyone knew. Well, I knew. I'm actually surprised she even- No, I'm not surprised she liked him, just that they were... whatever they were. She's intimidated by men shorter than she is, did you know? Which... is almost every man we know. That's why she's so awkward around you. That, and the fact that me, Yumichika, and Ikkaku teased her for a looooong time about liking you."

Kiyone, in addition to not letting something go, had a tendency to not know when to stop talking when drunk.

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Kiyone mistook his words as meaning his last round of sake was unecessary. "Nonsense, Hisagi! Sake is never unneeded!" She did him what she felt was a favour and poured him some more sake. "Go on, drink up!"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
"My turn for what? I've been drinking the whole time!" She threw up another arm and began to slide off her seat. It was usually about this time that she could stay upright.

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Nooo... You only have to pay for half, Hisagi," Kiyone assured him. "It's only fair, since you're drinking half of the sake, right?"

Her face lit up as the bartender did as Hisagi asked, looking none too pleased about the collection of empty bottles beginning to form in front of them. She swiveled on her stool to face the other shinigami. "Now. Since I've told you all about my problems, you get to tell me about yours."

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, come on, Hisagi! That's not fair at all! I told you about my problems, and now you have to tell me about yours. Or else," she said, slipping down from her stool (purposely, this time), "I'm going to leave you here with the entire bill."

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, fine." Kiyone allowed Hisagi to right her on the stool, slightly diappointed. "But I'll bet after a few months in the City, you'll have just as much non-regular stuff as I do. And then Isane will be telling you how irresponsible you are, and it gets really, really old after awhile, but-" she said, emphasizing the last word with a dramatic flourish of a raised sake dish, "As long as there's plenty of sake, Isane can talk all she wants!"

[identity profile] better-third.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what you think, Hisagi, but you just wait. Fall in love with a human and see what she says."

She counted the empty bottles on the bar. One, two, three... two. "Have we had enough, yet?"
