Log; Completed
When; 7-18, night
Rating; R for blood, violence and language
Characters; Walter Sullivan
beyond_the_room, Anita Blake
browning_baby and Richard Zeeman
teh_alpha_male a little later on.
Summary; You should always pay attention when walking at night.
Log;
There were cicadas singing in the dark night air as Anita paced along one of the mostly hidden paths in the forest. The Browning was at her side, as usual, but there were also a pair of wicked looking knives strapped along each thigh. She looked armed to the teeth, which was always a good thing for taking a late night walk in the woods. After all, there were all kinds of monsters that roamed among the trees.
She wasn't paying real attention to the path under her feet, since she'd run it several times as a wolf and knew it very well. Her mind was occupied with the visions she'd seen in the fountain earlier; the three of them hurt, Richard and Jean-Claude close to death with her power the only thing keeping them close enough to have the chance to recover, the Mother of all Darkness...
So much happened in the few minutes she'd spent staring into the clear water. She was still trying to process it all into something she could understand.

"Hello again," Walter said, appearing behind her, "I've found you once more."
no subject
"Look, as fun as last time was, I ain't gonna be shot again. Fuck off."
no subject
"It's no use. I...just can't feel anything..." he said, a vacant smile on his face. He immediately swung a fist at her head.
"There is no escape this time. I've had enough waiting. I have a schedule to keep."

"Stop jumping around, stupid dog," he said, grabbing for her again, "It's annoying."

"You've already done that, before," he said, charging her and creating a sledgehammer in his left hand, "It won't work!"
He swung the heavy hammer in low arc, aiming for her legs.

Both knives flashed in the dim light around them as she slashed at him, trying to get her legs back under her before he could take advantage of her position.
no subject
"Useless! Ha ha ha ha!" he said, his eyes lighting up with reaction to her distress, "Stupid, stupid whore!"
He raised the hammer again and swung at her left leg.

She didn't scream, but the pain was obivous by the flinch and the sudden desperate scramble as she tried to get away.
no subject
He took another swing at her, trying to strike anything he could in her scramble.
"I'll kill you!"
no subject
She'd never stop fighting.
"What the fuck is your problem! I didn't do anything to you! God, go AWAY!"
A surge of strength raced through her, allowing her to push him back with a hard shove.
"BACK OFF!"

"It's easier to stop fighting. What's the point of even living?" he said, more to himself than her, "I can't even do this to myself."
He began to take pot shots at the prone woman.

He continued to fire at her, slowly advancing as he did.

"As long as I'm feeling something, it's all good. Shit, if you wanna hurt me, you're gonna have to fuckin' try harder."
no subject
"As...you...wish!"
He brought her back and threw her violently forward, headfirst into a large tree. He followed her there, moving faster than before. His lifted her falling form with a kick to the chin.

There was no way she could speak now; not with the way her jaw was moving.

"You stupid bitch! Is this what you wanted?!" he laughed, lifting her higher and slamming her onto the ground. He yanked her up by one of her broken legs and hurled her several yards through the forest, to collide with another tree. Several strange fruits were shaken loose by the impact, falling around her.

Richard was glad he had decided to go running that night. What he had seen in the fountain played with his mind and he needed to clear his head. He had noticed a forest outside the City proper earlier and decided it looked like a good place to run. Then he heard the gunshot. Then he could smell the blood. Then he could smell Anita. So he had come running just in time to see her flung like a rag doll.
"You've got all of three seconds to leave," he warned. "I really want to hurt you, but I'd rather avoid it if possible."
no subject
She wanted to warn him, but she couldn't get the bones of her jaw to work well enough, nor could she shake off the fuzz crowding her brain from the repeated hits to the head. Instead, she pulled herself to a sitting position and flopped back against the tree she'd been thrown against.

"Another stupid dog-man. I'll kill you, stupid-dog man. You and her, I'll kill you both! I'll KILL YOU!"
He launched himself at Richard, swinging the sledgehammer at his head.

In a blur of superhuman speed, Richard sidestepped the charing attack. Years of super natural battles and pack fights had given his already enhanced reflexes an edge. His leg twitches, eager to deliver a kick to the man's back, but he let the urge pass.
"No killing tonight," Richard said. "Just go now."
no subject
"I'm afraid it's not your decision," he said, "I guess I'll bury you together."
He fired several times at the man.

He watched the finger close about the trigger and made the decision not to try and dodge the bullets. Richard wasn't quite fast enough to dodge them all anyways. So if he was going to get hit, might as well make it look good.
The bullets slammed into his body and caused him to stumble back a few steps. Just because he could survive being shot didn't mean it didn't hurt like hell.
"That... the best you got?" he asked, straightening himself and looking the man in the eyes. Blood streamed from the wounds but already they were healing themselves. Richard had recovered from a lot worse injuries than that.
"I'm telling you, get out of here," he said again, hoping that being able to take several gunshot wounds and remain standing would convince the man to go elsewhere. "No one is getting buried tonight."

"You mean I can break you..."
The liquid grew darker and more viscous.
"Cut you up, crush you, fold you..."
Corruption started to spread outward from where the foul liquid pooled at his feet.
"And still come back to do it again? This day is truly a gift from God!"

He was about to charge the man when his opponent started... leaking. That was the only word to describe it. Some black substance started to pour out of his body. He had no idea what it was, but it smelled wrong... very wrong. Richard had to rethink his idea about charging.
"Okay, no more warnings he said. Initially he had hoped to just either scare the man off or buy enough time for Anita to get away. Not that he expected her to leave though, she would never run away from someone that attacked her, even if it was the best thing for her to do.
Looking around for a weapon, Richard found one in a nearby tree. Not as large as some of the others it was about half the size of a man's torso in girth. Gripping it with both hands Richard strained as he ripped the young tree out of the ground. With a burbling growl of rage, he swung it at the leaking man.

"Not...nice..." he gurgled, rising to his feet. He showed no visible signs of pain as he slowly advanced back toward where his intended victims lay, "When people can't play nice, they need to be punished."
He concentrated as another large object formed in his hand. The machine whirred to life as it became clear that he had a chainsaw.

Now.
She tugged as hard as she could and looked up at him, even though she couldn't see through the swelling eyelids.
She tilted her head to the side; silent note that they needed to head out as quickly as possible.

With another grunt of effort, Richard threw the tree at the man. At the same instance, he became the transformation. Fur rippled over his body as bone and muscle shifted and reshaped. Fang and claw replaced teeth and nail as he became his half wolf, half human form. For speed and carrying someone, you couldn't beat this form.
It had meant giving into his beast partially, the instincts of the wolf taking over, but if that's what was needed he would do it to save Anita. Flashes of what he had seen in the fountain echoed in his mind but he pushed them away. He effortlessly scooped Anita up and bound away through the forest.
