Log: OnGoing
When; Saturday, Aug. 11th, afternoon
Rating; PG
Characters; Elena
lady_turk & Vash
mildlyreckless
Summary; Dress shopping between a gay man and a female Turk. No pink poofy dresses allowed.
Log;
The number of dresses that Elena owned, both back home and here in the City, probably numbered under ten total. It wasn't that she absolutely hated wearing them, but rather she didn't really like wearing them. They were easier to move in with some regards, but in other ways they were much harder to get around in. And with her job being what it was, dresses weren't exactly the best thing to wear when a person considered the nature of it. Plus, there was a certain mindset when men saw a woman in a dress back in Midgar.
So, once she had been freed from the enforced uniforms of her high school education, Elena hadn't bothered to keep up with any kind of fashion trend and had, quite happily, packed up or given away all her old dresses.
Which was why she needed help in finding one now. Other than knowing what she wouldn't wear, Elena was fairly at a loss of what to wear for certain occasions. Which was why when Vash had offered, she was happy to accept. And that acceptance was why she was currently sitting by the fountain, waiting for his arrival. She'd dressed down since there was the chance that she'd have to try on clothing and the process would be faster if she didn't have to deal with a full uniform.

Well, not this time. No way. Change wasn't his thing.
Vash suddenly paused and looked down at his "normal" clothes, which he had been borderline-forced to wear unless he had a good reason to wear his real "normal" clothes. Tch, okay, so maybe he was still vulnerable to convincing...
But his clothes weren't the point. Elena needed an opinion, and Vash had offered one, so here he was. Dress-shopping. ...Geez. Well, he could always check out some of the other ladies browsing the store. He may have been sleeping with a guy, but that certainly didn't mean he'd stopped appreciating the female form.
But anyway--
"Hey, Elena!" he said cheerfully as he walked up to her.

"Hey yourself," Elena greeted, casually waving one hand in greeting. Standing up and dusting off her pants, more out of habit than anything else, she gave Vash a small smile. She really was quite grateful for his help with this little venture.
"Thanks for coming to help me with this. Dresses aren't really my area of expertise, so anyone's opinion is more than welcome."

He turned and did a quick scan of the surrounding shops. This was going to be an adventure.
"How about that place over there?" he suggested, pointing with a gloved finger. "Are you wanting something fairly fancy?"
no subject
Flushing, Elena gave Vash a sheepish look as she looked towards the store he pointed to and then back at him. She really did not know just what she was looking for, but anything too fancy might not have been it. Or maybe it was. Either way, she wasn't too sure of the answer. This was why she needed help.
"What's normally a good idea to wear for a private celebration?"
no subject
"Um... What's the occasion?" he hesitantly ventured. "Like, a dinner date?"
no subject
"But aside from suits and black, I have no idea what clothes would fit a date situation."
no subject
"Well," he said thoughtfully, "We can start with simple, fairly casual dresses and work our way up and see what you think would work best."
He wondered what Meryl would wear. She seemed fairly close to Elena as far as personality and stuff went. But he'd never seen her in a dress either.
This was going to be tricky.

"Just... Nothing pink," Elena amended with a slight grin. There would be only two people, and two people ever to be able to get her to even consider the possibility of wearing pink. And both had already achieved that goal quite easily, so there was no one else who might have done the same.
Well, no one in the City still anyway.

Beyond that he wasn't sure what to suggest. It wasn't like he was really skilled at this sort of thing. ...Was there an art to this? There probably was... This was starting to seem a bit daunting.

Gesturing with her head towards another store, Elena stuffed her hands in her pockets and took a half-step towards the direction indicated. She wasn't one for most physical contact, even casually with a friend, so body language would have to do as much for her as that could have.
"Lets get started then, shall we?"
no subject
"So," he said. "Do you prefer longer skirts or shorter ones?
no subject
"Maybe something in the middle? Though short is fine too," Elena said hesitantly, picking her words and going over her choices.
no subject
"How about something like that? Or would you rather have something with sleeves?"
If he could just figure out the basic shape of what she liked in dresses, they'd be able to move this along a lot faster...
no subject
"It's nice, but I'm not sure if it would be right?"
Elena shrugged helplessly. She was so very much in over her head about all of this.
no subject
"Okay," he said decisively, "Exactly what sort of occasion is this? You said a date, right? What are you going to be doing? Is it for a special purpose?"
Vash suddenly heard the words 'what are you going to be doing' come from his mouth and proceeded to have a panic attack.
"N-not that I'm trying to pry or anything! I don't need to know EXACTLY what you're going to be doing! Afterwards, I mean! OH GOD, PRETEND I DIDN'T SAY THAT!!"
Salvage! Salvage!!
"What I mean is... Are you going out dancing, out to a restaurant, staying in, or something else?"
no subject
"It's an anniversary," Elena responded, once she had finally calmed down enough to speak, though there was still a large grin on her face. "Six months of dating someone here in this City."
"As for the plans... I haven't completely decided on just what it is that I want to do."
no subject
"Oh, really? Congratulations! You should wear something really nice then!"
He turned back to scan the selection again and pointed out a sleeveless dress with a small jacket over it.
"How about that? It's blue. Sort of dark, but I think that makes it look nicer."
no subject
"Thanks." Then, turning to look at the dress, Elena raised a finger to tap on her chin in thought, tilting her head to the side slightly. "It is rather nice, but don't you think it kind of looks like what I normally wear?"
no subject
This time he pointed to a longish light blue dress.
"It looks swishy," he remarked. Then blinked at his own words and added, "I'm not sure why that's important, but I thought I'd point it out. I suppose a better term to use is 'provides ease of movement'."
no subject
"But swishy works too. As does the choice that the word fits for."
