Summary; Hisoka goes to the festival with Tsuzuki after work, and ranting ensues.
Log;
Working two jobs and the various levels of constant activity had left Tsuzuki sluggish earlier in the week, but having gotten some rest and with the Mid-Autumn festival in full swing he was back to his old self, with additional enthusiasm. The festival had him acting more like a kid than usual; enthralled by the decorations, excited by the games and just generally happy to be in a position where he could spoil his friends.
Really though, he just wanted some time to relax with Hisoka. He felt like he was always rushing somewhere and honestly it had left him feeling rather guilty. He really just wanted Hisoka to have a good time.
Smiling, he lowered himself slightly and offered the younger Shinigami a lantern to hold. Perhaps only Tsuzuki would be able to pull off that gesture without it coming off as condescending, really the amethyst-eyed man couldn't belittle someone if he tried "Was work really so bad?"
He hadn't bothered to dress up like Tsuzuki, instead just changing out of his work clothes into a button-up shirt and simple jeans. Even with Japanese festivals, he didn't much care to wear yukata. With the strict upbringing his family had delivered, he had been quick to get sick of such dress. He only wore the proper attire when it was required for a ceremony or fighting.
Accepting the lamp without much change in expression, Hisoka sighed and let his shoulders rise and fall in a nonchalant shrug. "It was work. It's the same every day. Always some idiot that thinks the library is made to hold parties... Especially when curses are going on. You should have seen it when everybody had roller skates."
Tsuzuki smiled a little at the brief story Hisoka had given, shaking his head a little "Ah well," he sighed, peering happily at his own lantern. "You can't do much about the curses it seems, just deal with them as best you can for as long as they last."
He blinked then, tilting his head curiously "...Did people crash into the bookshelves when they had roller skates on? Was anyone hurt?"
It was hard to say which Tsuzuki should have been more concerned about - people getting hurt or the possible crashing spilling books everywhere and meaning more work for Hisoka.
Even thinking about the past curses made Hisoka wrinkle his nose in disgust. There were definitely memories he never wanted to repeat, and he was grateful that Tsuzuki had never brought up a specific one again.
"Other than simple bruises, nobody got hurt. No bookshelves were knocked over... A chair was broken, though, and people kept trying to skate on the tables." He had not been kind to those idiots, and was more than eager to throw them out.
"...I didn't come here to talk about work, though."
Trying not to chuckle at the images Hisoka painted for him, Tsuzuki coughed into his hand lightly and turned a look to the sky. "You're right, it's a festival after all. We shouldn't be worrying about those kinds of things."
He looked back at Hisoka then, smiling warmly at him. He was never really sure how to put into words how grateful he was for the boy's company, but then again he was sure Hisoka already knew with that ability of his. Sometimes Tsuzuki found himself thinking that Hisoka was lucky to have that empathy, but usually no sooner did that thought flicker through his mind did he correct it - Hisoka called it a curse, and perhaps he was right. He couldn't turn it off and it sometimes caused a lot of pain. All Tsuzuki could hope then was that if he stayed positive and kept the feeling strong enough it would over-ride anything else around Hisoka then. It was a sort of non-physical protection, almost.
"It's so relaxing," he commented offhandedly. "Don't you think, Hisoka?"
Although Tsuzuki's presence was rather calming, even his strong feelings couldn't completely filter out the crowds and the noise. Every time a person threatened to brush against the teenager, he subconsciously leaned into Tsuzuki to shy away from them. ..Especially the drunk ones. Hisoka didn't care to find out what thoughts they had in their head.
"I guess," he muttered. This sort of thing really wasn't his scene... He would have preferred reading in his room to this by far, but...it made Tsuzuki happy, and even Hisoka couldn't resist for long when Tsuzuki took on his pouty face. "It's better than it would have been earlier if I had skipped work. That Samejima girl bothers me."
Tsuzuki lowered a glance to Hisoka as he felt him move closer to him, lifting his head then as he idly slipped an arm protectively around the boy's shoulders. If Hisoka made to pull away however he'd allow him to do so without any protest.
"Mamimi-chan? How come?" Tsuzuki just typically saw the best in almost everyone he met and he was content to be as supportive of her as he would be with anyone else. He just couldn't help it somehow and after all the drama recently he somehow felt even more protective, of both Mamimi and Naota in a way.
Hisoka's cheeks burned when he felt the older shinigami's arm move around him, and he was quick to pull away. He didn't like bumping into people, but he couldn't just let Tsuzuki do that in public! Someone would see! Honestly, sometimes Hisoka felt like the older one.
Recalling why he didn't like Mamimi only made him scowl more. "She's a pervert, and she'll cling to anyone ready to give her attention! It's obvious that she isn't going to grow up, so Naota says he feels like she's his responsibility. It's stupid. He just lets her do whatever she wants so long as she doesn't get into danger."
Again, Tsuzuki slid a glance at Hisoka, but he smiled still clearly not insulted. Hisoka never really changed and he was glad of it. He just knew his partner pretty well but didn't tend to look past his main reasons for such actions and into how it must look to others walking by. He was just dense to things like that and if someone actually spelt it out to him in black and white he'd most likely have blushed too.
"Is that really so bad?" He said after a moment or two, pushing his hands into his pockets "She seems to need someone to lean for now and Naota does act like he needs to feel responsible, but he could be using her as his own form of support too. They sort of--" remind me of us, in a way. He stopped mid-thought however, deciding not to say it aloud and instead he just smiled and shook his head "...I think they need each other for now. If they need to pull apart then they'll do it in their own way."
He gaze Hisoka a look then however and lifted a hand to shield his mouth "...but the pervert stuff I'm just going to ignore for now, I think!"
Hisoka stopped walking and turned to glare at him. "Naota is a kid... She is an adult. She's older than me! She's a pedophile and doesn't even care to hide it, and he only puts up with it because of responsibility! It's not healthy, not in the least, and I want her out, Tsuzuki, before she goes too far!"
His tone was practically venomous by this point, as all he could think of was Muraki. Stupid perverts with no regard for anyone but themselves.
Tsuzuki paused when Hisoka did, listening carefully before sighing and looking away "But Naota-kun seems to want her around... That's important too, isn't it? Would he really be so insistent if he just felt obligated?" He looked to the floor for a second, finding himself in a difficult position "...and age isn't always related to the person. I'm not saying she's right, not at all, but... Ahh, how to word this... I still feel that she really is just a kid too though. She's not that much older than you, is she? And she's not going to stay older than you. She's alive and human. I'm--" Another thought stopped midway,. He didn't really want to compare him and Hisoka to Naota and Mamimi again though, even to himself.
His shoulders sagged a little then as he frowned "...You really hate it that much though, don't you? ...do you... want me to ask her to leave then? Really?"
Tsuzuki's logic was confusing him, and it was with a careful look that he analyzed his partner, trying to figure out what was on his mind. He kept cutting himself off...
Of course, Hisoka could have cheated, but that went against his very nature.
"No, I don't want you to ask her to leave. Then Naota will just leave and we can't keep an eye on him at all." He sighed and turned away to keep on walking. "I just wish she would leave on her own... If she had chosen to stay away the other day, then he would have let her."
Tsuzuki looked away quickly, reminded that he'd attempted to convince Mamimi to stay on that day too as he lightly rubbed the back of his neck
"I'm not sure how to make the situation better, really." He admitted finally "I don't really want to see anyone leave after all, it just doesn't seem fair. At the same time, I don't want to see you uncomfortable about anything."
Conflict like this troubled him and even to people who didn't have empathy that was clear. He scratched his cheek thoughtfully "This is really a tough one. I can't think what to do, unless we try and make the place a bit bigger."
He knew he shouldn't have brought it up, already feeling guilty for ruining Tsuzuki's good mood. His partner had looked so forward to having fun at the festival, and Hisoka had just gone and turned it into a terrible evening.
With a sigh, the teen waved his hand over his shoulder. "Forget it. I can deal with it if everyone else can. Let's just...get some dessert or something. My treat."
That, he hoped, would be enough to cheer Tsuzuki up.
Tsuzuki's frown wasn't lifted by the mention of dessert however. He didn't really like the idea of Hisoka bringing something up and then dismissing it like that.
"Hisoka..." He began, shifting where he stood slightly "...I mean it. I don't want you feeling uncomfortable just for the sake of putting up with it or anything. If we need to find a proper solution to this then we will." He sighed, looking around briefly "Perhaps we should sit down somewhere to talk though, we'll get in the way if we stand here like this."
When the older man didn't so much as twitch at the mention of dessert, Hisoka knew something was up. He had really fucked the night up, hadn't he? He'd let his bad mood ruin everything...even dessert couldn't fix it! Still...
He could try.
"Tsuzuki..." The teen's voice was softer this time as he turned back around to lean over and grab his sleeve. It was a hard thing for him to do, but he was trying. "We'll talk about it later tonight if you want. For now, let's eat and have fun, okay? I'm sure we can figure out a solution once we're more relaxed."
That caught Tsuzuki by surprise as he blinked at Hisoka a few times curiously. It wasn't something his partner would usually do and the Shinigami was fully aware of that. He must really want to drop the subject for now if he was willing to act that way.
Sighing, Tsuzuki knew he was defeated for now. Fair was fair though, he'd won a number of times of late and pouting didn't always work.
"All right we'll talk about it tonight then. I won't forget though, okay?" He began to walk again though, smiling faintly at Hisoka. Silly kid... He really didn't need to put so much effort into the avoidance though, Tsuzuki felt.
He brought forward his brightest grin then, closing his eyes happily "Now then~! Where are we going for desert? Have you got any idea what kind you want to get~?"
