Log;
From waking up this morning, Sasuke couldn't shake the feeling of wanting to ask Naruto some things. Normally, he didn't bother to bring up his questions, because he knew Naruto didn't exactly want to talk about it, but today for some reason he felt he had to say something.
The morning had been a strange one so far. Barely up for a few hours and he'd already been forced to return home. He wasn't quite sure why exactly, but the feeling had been there from the moment he'd left the apartment. He needed to speak to Sasuke about something, and the network just wouldn't do right then. Not when it'd only take a few more minutes to be able to ask in person. He just had to hope Sasuke was home too. Well, it was time for breakfast, so there was a chance, right?
Sasuke pushed the thoughts of whatever he wanted to ask Naruto aside, seeing as the other wasn't home yet and he focused on trying to actually eat for breakfast instead. Hopefully this need to ask Naruto his question would pass, or at least he hoped it would.
Pausing outside the door for a few seconds, Naruto took the opportunity to try and get his thoughts in line. He was going to go in, have some breakfast, and then find Sasuke. It was a simple as that. Or at least it was, until he pushed the door open and head inside. Sasuke was already back.
Cursing inwardly, Naruto forced on a grin as he made his way over to join the other at the table. "Sasuke!" Dropping into a seat, a bowl was dragged toward him, cereal and milk soon following. "G'morning."
The moment the door opened, he knew Naruto was back, sooner than he expected. Sasuke looked up from eating, as Naruto sat down at the table to eat as well. "Morning, Naruto"
His attention was solely on the bowl for a good few minutes, his stomach being kind enough to give him a reason not to think too much. The trouble was, it only meant he couldn't think about a way around asking. The question remained at the front of his thoughts, and for once, it just wouldn't leave. A curious glance over at Sasuke and he was finally forced to stop, only managing to make it half way through the bowl. Dropping the spoon back into the dish, it was pushed away, his head resting on his arms as he slumped onto the table, just watching the other silently.
Sasuke focused his attention on eating his cereal. Now that Naruto was here, it was getting harder for him to push the thoughts of what he was thinking of asking Naruto since this morning. He was usually so good at ignoring it, but now he couldn't. Suddenly he looked towards Naruto, noticing the other looking right at him leaving his food aside. "...What are you doing?"
"Sasuke..." He sighed, his gaze finally dropping from the other and to the table. It was a stupid question. Or at least, he wanted to see it as one. But on top of that, he knew that it wasn't going to help matters much. Especially after everything that'd already happened after his return to The City. "I wanna ask you something." It was a lie, considering. If anything, he wanted to bury the very thought as far away from them all as possible. But it was still escaping, regardless. "...why do you love me instead of Sakura-chan?"
The question took him by surprise, but at least this distracted him from what he wanted to ask Naruto. He dropped the spoon he was holding into the bowl, "You know, I could ask you the same question. But anyway...why I love you instead of Sakura? That's because, you're you. It mostly has a lot to do with what happened while being here. I'm not sure how to say it exactly...there are a lot of reasons actually"
He frowned, though it was lost into his arms as his gaze hardened on the tabletop. It didn't make sense to him. Not in the long run. "We're not going to be here forever. And once you're back home, Sakura-chan will be there." And he'd be back with the younger versions of the two of them. "You two could actually grow up together, and not get weird looks from people. You could get married. Have kids." He took a deep breath, finally forcing himself to look up for as long as he was able to. ...a few seconds at best. "You could be a proper family, and you could both be happy."
"Yeah, I know we won't be" Sasuke shook his head, "...You actually think that would make me happier? It won't, you know"
"You don't know that." He turned silent, trying to think up a better way to explain it all. He needed to get his point across, and without making things any worse; a task easier said than done. "...don't you want to have a family of your own? You could have a wife. Children. You'd...you wouldn't have to be alone anymore."
Sasuke frowned at that, "You don't know that it would be like you said it would be, either." He paused again, trying to collect his thoughts "I...don't know. Like I've even thought that far ahead, Naruto. I mean, if I was back home instead of here, all I thought about was going after my brother..."
"It'll always be an option. She loved you back then." And he couldn't help but think that certain things hadn't changed since then. "All you ever needed to do was show an interest." He sighed, finally managing to sit back up in his seat and look at Sasuke. "There's still a chance things will go back to exactly how they were when you go back. No matter what you say now." As had been proved by his few returns home. He hadn't remembered a single thing from his time in The City, but others had. "What do you expect to happen when you go back? I'm not gonna be anything like how I am now. But Sakura-chan is still going to care about you."
"Hn. You know that I didn't exactly do that though. Besides, you're the one who liked her like that--" Sasuke said, avoiding looking at Naruto, partially ignoring the last question "Maybe-- but then why bother asking me to stay then? I mean, aren't you who you are now because of the fact I left?"
"I did. But she loved you." It was something he'd come to admit to himself after all those long years of trying to get Sakura to notice him. Sakura had only ever had eyes for Sakura, and no amount of yelling or fooling around was going to get that to change. Not until Sasuke had abandoned Konoha and the two of them had been left alone. "I don't want you to leave because...because I'm selfish." It was the only way he could explain himself. The truest possible answer. "No matter what you do when you go back, it's not going to make a difference to my time. But I don't want anyone else to have to go through what we did. We lost you because of the snake bastard. I don't want to have to go through that again. Even if I don't know it."
"Yeah, and that's the part I don't get" Of course he knew how Sakura felt about him, as well as all those others...he just didn't understand it, considering how he was. "It's okay to be selfish, you know. But then again, I do that most of the time-- so I'm not really one to talk. I don't want you to go through that, and I wish you didn't have to in the first place" Sasuke sighed, "...I know you don't like to talk about it, but what exactly happened when I left, Naruto?"
"What's not to get? All of the girls liked you. The only reason Sakura-chan put up with me was 'cause it meant she could stay in Team 7 with you." He hated having to admit to it, but it was true. It'd taken a long time for him to accept the fact, though now he was finally glad of that fact. Sakura had become one of his closest friends, and that wasn't ever going to change. "We came to get you back, but it didn't work." As to the individual events, it wasn't something he ever liked thinking about. Especially now that he didn't need to anymore. At least until he was back home again.
"The part on why they did? Yeah,...but it made more sense, that she'd like you instead of me" Sasuke briefly looked up, "...What do you mean it didn't work?"
"Because they all thought you were really cool." The fact the he was an Uchiha didn't hurt matters in the slightest. "Sakura-chan hated me when we were younger. I was getting in the way. It was obvious that she'd be happy with you." And they'd all have to have been completely blind not to realise it. He was definitely glad for the change now. "You still went off to Orochimaru, even after we tried to come and get you back. We even fought over it, but you still left."
"Right. They might have thought that, but that didn't mean that I was or anything. Besides, I was too focused on other things, that it was just annoying having all that attention" Sasuke shrugged, "I found you like that too at first...but it was different with you. You were the first person to treat me differently, not like how everyone else was just because of my name. I guess it was from that, you became an important person to me"
"It didn't matter to them what you were really like. But once we were a team, Sakura-chan saw more than the other girls, and she still loved you." He paused, looking back up to Sasuke with an almost confused look. He'd known from the first moment they'd met that they weren't going to get along. But things had changed on both ends. That much was obvious. But he'd never realised that it'd mattered to Sasuke too that long ago. "S'cause back then, I was annoyed that Sakura-chan loved you. I thought that if I treated you the same way you did, then she'd change her mind."
"Yeah, but still...I don't really see how that makes me likable or something" Judging from the somewhat confused look on Naruto's face, he knew that the other wasn't aware of that fact, but it was true despite how he acted, "Yeah, that much was obvious. ...wait, you did?"
"Because of how you look, and how you act. Because of who you are. Because of who you could be. You're blind if you don't realise why they liked you so much." It was part of the reason he himself could explain why he felt the way he did about Sasuke. Though there was more behind his. More that changed the like into love. "You were my rival for more than one reason."
"Well I did know they liked me, but because of all that? Honestly, I didn't deserve any of that type of attention, I just ignored it. I was too focused on getting stronger to go after my brother-- I didn't care about much else other than how I was going to do that" Sasuke paused, "Hn. Yeah, I know..."
"You may've not deserved it, but you still got it." Some things just weren't going to change, no matter what happened. "When you go back home, you could-" He cut himself off this time with a sharp shake of his head. If Sasuke wasn't going to leave this time, then he'd undoubtedly sort things out with Sakura, and the two of them could be happy. And if he still left... "Sorry for...bringing that up."
Sasuke merely sighed, not really sure what to say anymore. He really didn't want to think about it, but now that Naruto brought it up, he couldn't exactly get it out of his head now. "Yeah...I'm sorry for bringing up stuff about my leaving in your time"
He felt somewhat relieved that he hadn't been forced into too much detail about the past...or future. The less said about it, the better. After all, if everything went to plan, it was a future that wasn't going to happen again. "S'alright." He gave a half smile, pushing up from his seat and moving round to Sasuke's side of the table, before crouching down beside him. "...just forget I brought it up, okay?"
At that point, Sasuke didn't really know what to really say, he just nodded in response. "Yeah, I'll try to..."
Smiling slightly, he reached out, a hand coming to take Sasuke's and tug it towards him. "It's all that matters, right? I mean...that stuff before, it doesn't matter. Not really." How much of that statement he agreed with, he didn't know. But his own feelings on the subject didn't matter just then. It was Sasuke he wanted to make sure was alright now.
Sasuke felt Naruto's hand on his, and he let the other pull him closer. "Yeah, I guess so" It still bothered him, but he would try to push it out of his mind at least.
If he'd been anyone else, then maybe he would've taken Sasuke's words at face value. But as it was, one thing that Naruto could say about himself was that he was quick to put his friends first. That went doubly so for Sasuke. "You only guess so?"
"Well it's not that easy as it sounds, you know, since you brought it up and all" Sasuke frowned.
"It is if you let it." Or that was the theory, at least. In truth, Naruto knew that if the positions had been switched, there wasn't a way that he'd be able to forget even half of their last conversation. But he could hope at least. "Just pretend it never happened."
"Hm. Yeah, okay..." Sasuke nodded. Hopefully he would be able to forget it ever happened, just like Naruto said, because he really didn't want to think about it again.
Taking a deep breath, he nodded his head. Maybe he didn't believe the other, but if he made sure Sasuke didn't get the chance to think about things, then maybe he'd soon forget them. He gave another tug on Sasuke's hand as he pushed himself up a little, ducking forward to place a soft kiss on his lips. "Do you wanna go do something today?" A change of topic, and hopefully, of thoughts.
Sasuke smiled slightly as Naruto leaned forward kissed him, just as changed the subject a few moments later. He didn't mind though, it at least gave him a distraction to stop thinking about unwanted thoughts "Yeah, sure...what'd you want to do?"
"I don't mind." He couldn't help but grin back at him, relieved that things seemed at least a little easier between them now. "It doesn't look like anything big is happening today." And by big, that meant the kind of curse that hit them from the moment they woke up. That, or some resident causing trouble again. "We could go to the beach. Or we could go and train somewhere. Or we could go and see if the others want to do something with us. Or...uh..." He paused, thinking to himself. "...the zoo again?" He was straining for idea already, and he'd only just started. "It's up to you."
Sasuke looked thoughtful for a moment as he considered the options from what Naruto suggested. "Hm. Let's go to the beach"
"Right! The beach it is then." Pushing back up onto his feet, Naruto took a moment to stretch, running through a quick check of things they'd need. "I hafta go have a shower first though, alright?" And then pack food. That was as far as his thoughts were going to go just then.
Sasuke nodded, getting up from the table soon after since he didn't exactly feel like eating anymore. "Yeah, alright"
"I'll be quick." If only for the fact it meant that they could get out of there sooner. "You could pack some stuff for us, if you want? ...unless you're planning to just stand there the whole time." His expression alone was proof that he was only playing around. There was no point in making things any worse without a good reason.
Sasuke shook his head, lightly. He would have gotten annoyed at that, if he didn't know that Naruto was just joking "Yeah, yeah. I know, I'll go do that. You just go and have your shower"
Nodding slightly, Naruto turned to head off toward the bathroom, only to stop before he'd taken a single step away. Their conversation hadn't been on the best of topics, and knowing Sasuke, it wasn't as over as he'd hoped. Even if they both said otherwise. Sighing to himself, he stepped back, moving back toward Sasuke in silence, his arms wrapping around the other boy. "I'm sorry about before." His grip tightened slightly as he ended up practically talking into Sasuke's neck. "I love you, and that isn't going to change. No matter what happens."
He felt Naruto put his arms around him and pull him into a hug suddenly "It's...okay. " Sasuke sighed, as he hug Naruto back, "Yeah...I know. I love you too"
Lifting his head back up, Naruto shifted round so he could look back at Sasuke again, a soft smile appearing on his face. "I just want you to be happy, whatever it takes." And to find himself included in the equation was a bonus he was more than happy to find.
"Hm, yeah. That's because of you, you know" Sasuke said, smiling back at Naruto
"There's gotta be more than just that though." It wasn't something he was sure he'd ever get used to, as much as he'd like to think otherwise. "M'not gonna be around forever." There was only so much time before they ended up being sent back home again. And if Sasuke went back to how he used to be... "So you've gotta find more things too!"
Sasuke frowned momentarily, as Naruto seemed to have sort of brought up the subject again. It wasn't just because of how he was now, the more he thought about it, maybe he'd felt this way about Naruto even before realizing it here "Hn. Yeah, I know that..."
"I guess it means we're gonna have to find you a new hobby." He grinned, his forehead resting against Sasuke's as he continued. "We have to find you something else you like too." There was only so much training a person could do each day. And other than the time Sasuke spent with him or Sakura, it seemed like he only ever spent time around people he was forced to. "...and some more friends."
"Hn. Right..." Sasuke sighed, "That's easy for you to say, you're better at that kind of thing. I don't know how you do it"
"It's not that hard, yanno." Or at least, it hadn't been for him before. Especially not while being in the City. Most people didn't think twice about what he was. "Lots of people here are really nice, and I'm sure they'd like you if you at least spoke to them."
"Yeah, but with you it comes naturally, it's easy for you to make friends" Sasuke shook his head, "They may be nice, but it's not like that with me...even back home, you know that I didn't really talk much with the others either"
"You're so quiet all the time, so it's hard for most people to get to know you." Back home had been a different problem though. Most people had flocked around Sasuke because of his name. His looks and abilities had come in close for the top reasons for some. But because of that, none of them had really cared about the other. Even he had to admit that back then, he hadn't cared about Sasuke beyond the other being a rival. Things had changed since though, and being stuck in a city full of people who were at least willing to listen, had to count for something. Right? "At least give it a chance, okay?"
"Well that's just because of how I am" Sasuke shrugged. Other than Naruto and Sakura, he didn't let anyone else get close to him. It was more of a habit than anything else, really. "Okay, I'll try..."
Nodding slightly, Naruto finally stepped back again, releasing his hold on Sasuke. "That's all you have to do." He wasn't expecting Sasuke to go out and make friends straight away. That would've been something close to a miracle. But for him to at least be willing to try and talk to others, he was happy to hear it.
