One would expect that with the ability to manipulate fire, the user would develop a certain affinity for it. Yet, this was certainly not the case for Yuuki. The smoke clung to the air, choking those around that were unfortunate enough to breathe it in. She hated the smell--that acrid stench of smoke that clung to the air. Luckily enough, she had not be terribly hurt during her numerous attempts at putting at the sudden bursts of fire. There were burns here and there, but they seemed like nothing compared to what was truly distressing her.

...I'm getting smaller.

While the City’s curses could be amusing on most days, other days it wasn’t and today was apparently one of those days. The chaos of the city was easily a sign of that. Already twice Kaname had found himself following a smoke trail that had eventually led him to others, apparently more than one had the same abilities. Through the cacophony of smoke, florals and other commanding scents, Kaname had discovered that in cases such as these, finding Yuuki by her scent was near impossible.

Down to verbal directions and searching by sight. He had reached building 3 as fast as his legs could take him and pining down the smoke cloud that hid Yuuki’s small form had been uncomplicated.

"Yuuki," he said when he saw her, the relief was evident in his voice. He waved aside as much of the lingering smoke as he could while making his way to her, "I’m here now, it’s going to be all right."

The uneasiness that had grown between the two, seemed to be completely dispelled as Yuuki leaned forward to crush the other in an embrace. It was almost like when Yuuki was younger, before she had become more aware of the rift between human and vampire; her current size only added to the picture. Whatever was bothering her had suddenly become insignificant, at least for the moment.

"Kaname-sempai...?"

He held her close in his arms, one hand smoothing her hair in a soothing manner while the other held her in place in case she pulled away. It had been while since he had the chance to touch her and despite her fears, Kaname felt the need to relish the sweet warmth of her body against his before he answered.

"It’s all right Yuuki. You’re safe." He pulled apart a little to look over her and make sure that she was indeed safe. She had mentioned bleeding, where was it? While looking over her though, Kaname couldn’t help but notice that she… seemed a bit smaller. A few inches less in height and a slightly rounder face. Younger. He lifted her chin to get a better look at her, "Yuuki… how cute."

There was no resistance on her part, even to the hand that held her in place. As the only thing that seemed to matter was the fact that he was there for her, the single person that she held most closely to her heart. She was sobbing into his chest, allowing her pent up feelings of fear and frustration pour out with each choked sob.

She stared at the vampired blurry-eyed as he moved to lift her chin, her thoughts momentarily interrupting her from her tears. He's always there to protect me, isn't he? Even with his duties as a pure-blood, Kaname-sempai... Do I deserve to know such a wonderful person?

"Thank--"

Another burst of fire erupted at the end of the alleyway, and with a sudden squeak, Yuuki pressed herself once more against Kaname's larger form.

"...Every time I use it, I end up shrinking....and I-I can't control it."

How he missed the days when she clung to him trustingly as opposed to the careful distance she kept now. It was sad that it always happened to be on cursed days, but Kaname wasn’t complaining. Yuuki was there in his arms and he would protect as always.

He turned them so his larger form shielded her from the debris of the blast then offered her a warm smile. "Shh… it’s all right," keeping an arm around her, he steered her out of the alley and towards moister grounds. "Let’s move from here, there’s too many things around here that will go flying with the heat." The wetter, the better, it would keep her from possibly injuring herself as well.

Somehow, she also seemed to get even smaller in his arms as they walked too. She wasn’t shrinking as she guessed so much as she was getting younger. "Yuuki… I want you to trust me and to calm down. It won’t happen so much if you relax."

Yuuki nodded silently in response Kaname's words. Stifling a shuddered breath, she attempted to press back the panic that sought to overtake her rationality. Her fingers then curled against the side of shirt, clinging desperately to the material as she finally managed to relax in his arms.

"I think I can control it now...thanks to Kaname-sempai. I was scared before when there wasn't anyone here," a small smile edged its way to her lips, "Thank you."

This all made for a nice moment, well...until Yuuki finally discovered the extent of her remuneration, and with it came several more bursts of flame.

"Why am I getting younger---?"

Kaname could hardly see why being younger was such a bad thing, she looked so adorable and small like that, just like back in the days when she would run out in excitement to see him. He had adored her in that stage in life.

"I think that’s your remuneration for the fire ability." He petted her on the head, seeing how she was the right height for that. "As long as you keep calm and don’t send anymore sparks out, you shouldn’t get any smaller."

Though even with that said, Kaname certainly wouldn’t mind it if she did get any younger. Little Yuuki was so sweet.

Once more, she focused her attention upon stemming her nervous panic, fingers gripping Kaname even tighter she did so.

"What if I continued to accidentally use it...?," she paused, eyes wide upon realization, "...I could have shrunk down to nothing!"

Luckily this time, Yuuki had gained a shaky control on this newfound power, at least enough to cease it's spontaneous eruptions.

He shushed her again and ran his fingers soothingly through her hair. While the thought of a baby Yuuki was endearing, Kaname didn’t exactly want her that young either. "Yuuki, I won’t let that happen." And he really wouldn’t, if he had to, he would knock her out before she reached her toddler years. Even if it was a method he was loath to employ.

"Sit down, and clear your mind." He had steered her towards the hot springs, as that had been the closest large body of water next to the lake. There was enough plush vegetation to avoid catching on fire and the humid air had a calming effect. "I wish I could take us home, I wish I could bring you somewhere safe…"

Though she had finally regained her senses, Yuuki was too tired at this point to really care about her usual awkwardness and confliction that surrounded the vampire. It was nice for once to enjoy the calm of the moment, and to disregard the distance that had grown between the pair.

She was content.

"I shouldn't be complaining! The curses only last a few days at most, and I have Kaname-sempai to always protect me," she looked to the other as she spoke, "...It's not fair for you to be stuck here. You're an important person to many people back home, and they need you. Not to mention, you must be lonely yourself without the Night Class by your side..."
