XANADU OPERA TIME | ALL INVITED

WHEN: Jan. 15 | the Xanadu gardens.
CHARACTERS: Everyone.
SUMMARY: we interrupt your regular Xanadu viewing for the following special reminder: ...the visit ain't over til the bloody plant sings.

That's right: our green belle been giving rather obnoxious titillating performances in Xanadu, to what can only be the... enjoyment... of certain Citizens. Adding injury to insult, it's quite possible that a couple of residents have also captured the plant's tune on film, and now the video's been turned into a network viral phenomenon!

But as Citizens surely know, every grand artist needs a doting live audience: come get dibs on more plant footage? Save someone from its evil clutches? Help a poor soul that's got lost in the gardens' great expanse? Get the plant to sign with your talent agency? Embark on a mystical quest to get it to shut up?

Just put your chlorophyll-tinted glasses on, and anything is possible.

[ ooc: Find whatever excuse to throw your character in Xanadu, tag someone new, and all around: GET IN HERE. Just as a note: hearing the plant is definitely optional, so please don't think it's an overwhelming sound that'd keep your character up at night or some such. It's just a log prompt. XD ]

It no longer hurts. [ She's not perfectly comfortable with it, but that has less to do with showing him and more with the fact that part of her still believes herself a monster for the ability, even though her time in the City and the acceptance of people here have helped considerably.

But she trusts Doctor McCoy, and she wants him to understand, or at least get close to understanding, what she is and what she can do. If he can still accept her after that, would that not mean that she is not a monster after all? ]

I would not wish to do it here, though. [ Too many people around. ]

Well, I could always make the department store a maze. Trap shoppers in, that sort of thing.

[ It is unfortunate, though. It's why she prefers building for dreams, why she grabbed onto what Cobb and Arthur taught her and refused to let go. ]

Though if you know of any planets in need of an architect to build something interesting, feel free to give them my name.
boutant: ([smile] shoulder)

[ Ariadne has no idea what a Marlboro is, except for a kind of cigarette. That's probably a good thing.

His comment has her smiling, though, automatically pleased that someone recognizes her profession for what it is. ]

It really is. Unfortunately there's not much cause to build cathedrals anymore, at least not back home.
boutant: ([confused] is that a yeti?)

[personal profile] boutant 2012-01-20 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There's a blink, brown eyes crinkling up in confusion. ]

What were you going to do, then?
nohometown: (moving forward)

[Sephiroth just smiles in response to this. The bird settles down, although it clearly wants to be returned to Sephiroth.

He turns toward the plant, and then, to all appearances, disappears. He appears again a moment later, near the plant, but only for a few instants, before he returns to McCoy's side with the samples.]

Make 'em buy something to show the way out? That's diabolical. [ He grins and nods. ] I'll let them know. Nice girl on Earth, just keep her away from the dangerous plantlife.
mintjulep: (think)

[personal profile] mintjulep 2012-01-20 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It used to hurt? [ That makes sense, if he thinks about it, but it doesn't mean he has to be happy about it. He doesn't want her to hurt. ]

I don't blame you. [ He runs a hand through his hair for a moment, considering. ] Do you have a place in mind, or...? [ There's his apartment, of course, but it's sort of bare. For some reason, the idea of taking Tessa there, to a place that's obviously just a place to eat and sleep, doesn't sit well with him. ]
mintjulep: (surprise)

[personal profile] mintjulep 2012-01-20 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Blink.

Blink.

Blink. ]

... That was fast.

[personal profile] likeboudica 2012-01-20 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It felt as though I was ripped apart from the inside. [ That is the closest she can come to an accurate description. ]

Anywhere that has fewer people would be acceptable, I should think. Perhaps the youth centre, or even the library.

There are some stores set up like that already, you know. You have to go past everything to get to the exit so that there's more of a chance of you buying something.

[ There's a laugh. ] I'll try not to make a habit of getting too close to any more of it.

I'm capable of limited range teleportation, and my speed is far beyond that of an average human.

[He says this like it's no big deal. After all, everyone's aware of it at home.]

[personal profile] saidrepent 2012-01-20 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[He snorts.] Good point... Besides that, I guess anyone who gets too close after all that singing would just be a victim of natural selection.

[He's been dealing with his pack of gum this entire time, remaining nonchalant as he's pulled out a piece and rolled it around his mouth. He pauses before sticking the pack back in his pocket, though, and instead holds it out to the doctor, wordlessly offering.]
nohometown: (kinder and gentler)

[personal profile] nohometown 2012-01-20 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[That is a good thing. Malboros are hideous poisonous flying plant monsters.]

Cathedrals. Yes, we no longer build religious structures in my world. There are some still standing, but they're ruins, for the most part.

Utilitarian structures are our most common new constructions, though they're not without their interesting features.
errandry: (your ex-lover called. stop burning her.)

Wanted to grab a bud, that's all.
errandry: (QUESTIONS ABOUT SCIENCE.)

how did I miss this. /wrecks your nirvana

[personal profile] errandry 2012-01-21 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Around here, you never know.

[ the worst thing is: that isn't sarcasm. ]
errandry: (you're the risk of getting caught.)

[personal profile] errandry 2012-01-21 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Everything's gotta touch the ground eventually, though.
firstaid: (the world; ocean; adoration)

it was wrecked long ago

[personal profile] firstaid 2012-01-21 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we really don't. I don't really enjoy constantly being on my guard, however, it seems like it's a natural state for all of us to be in now since we never know what the deities are planning next.
boutant: ([default] here for the ride)

[personal profile] boutant 2012-01-21 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not the religious part I'm attracted to. It's the building itself, the design.

I'm more of a classical girl. Modern things are nice, sleek, but they're everywhere. Straight lines, not a lot of curves.
boutant: ([curious] like a work placement?)

[personal profile] boutant 2012-01-21 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
So you could grow your own giant singing carnivorous plant?
mintjulep: (eyebrow 1)

[personal profile] mintjulep 2012-01-21 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There a reason for that?
mintjulep: (surprise)

[personal profile] mintjulep 2012-01-21 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
More or less. [ Though he'd still do his best to save them, of course.

There's a blink at the wordless offer of gum, and then Bones nods, reaching out to take a piece. ]

Thanks.

[personal profile] mintjulep 2012-01-21 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Jesus. He'd swear, but Tessa's a sixteen-year-old girl with Victorian sensibilities. ]

Wherever you're most comfortable.

[personal profile] likeboudica 2012-01-21 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The library, then. [ Tugging a hand into the crook of his arm. ]
mintjulep: (concentrate|down)

[personal profile] mintjulep 2012-01-21 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He'll just pat her hand and let her lead. ]

[personal profile] likeboudica 2012-01-21 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ once they reach the library, Tessa leads him through the rows of books and into the next room; the section full of old classics. Of course, for Tessa they're contemporary literature. ]

Very few people frequent this area of the library.

[ once upon a time, she might have worried about being unaccompanied in the presence of a man, but her time with the Shadowhunters and her stay in the City more so have disabused her of the notion that a chaperone is necessary and she may be compromised by a man's mere presence, and besides, this is Doctor McCoy. ]
