XANADU OPERA TIME | ALL INVITED

WHEN: Jan. 15 | the Xanadu gardens.
CHARACTERS: Everyone.
SUMMARY: we interrupt your regular Xanadu viewing for the following special reminder: ...the visit ain't over til the bloody plant sings.

That's right: our green belle been giving rather obnoxious titillating performances in Xanadu, to what can only be the... enjoyment... of certain Citizens. Adding injury to insult, it's quite possible that a couple of residents have also captured the plant's tune on film, and now the video's been turned into a network viral phenomenon!

But as Citizens surely know, every grand artist needs a doting live audience: come get dibs on more plant footage? Save someone from its evil clutches? Help a poor soul that's got lost in the gardens' great expanse? Get the plant to sign with your talent agency? Embark on a mystical quest to get it to shut up?

Just put your chlorophyll-tinted glasses on, and anything is possible.

[ ooc: Find whatever excuse to throw your character in Xanadu, tag someone new, and all around: GET IN HERE. Just as a note: hearing the plant is definitely optional, so please don't think it's an overwhelming sound that'd keep your character up at night or some such. It's just a log prompt. XD ]

[ Considering all the time Tessa usually spends in the library, a walk and some fresh air sounded like a good idea, so she's bundled up warm and made her way to Xanadu.

She's brought a book, though now that she's actually outside it seems unlikely she'll get any reading done. For once thing, it's a little too cold still to curl up on a park bench to read. And secondly, there's a singing plant.

A singing blood-thirsty plant, even, it seems. ]

I should not be so surprised. [ Muttered to herself, though loud enough to be overheard by any bystander... ]
knaveswitness: (well it is the same thing with you)

[To a man who relied more on hearing than sight these days, and whose hearing was quite acute for said reason, the plant's ruckus was... grating to say the least.

Though at first, he had no idea it was a plant.

It was someone with an obnoxious voice, and with no plans otherwise engaging him at the moment, (frustrating), he tracked it down by hearing alone, cane tapping away casually, picking up the bars and humming along.

That green blur in Break's mostly failed vision was far too big and definitely the wrong color for a person. The motion was all wrong.

... It was a plant.]

[It's Sunday, and as such, Sunday is a great day for catching some fresh air and light - albeit in a chilly weather - and Mae has yet to visit Xanadu, so here she is.

For the second time today, no less; after a nice conversation with someone new, she's decided that it's a good time to socialize. If there's anyone out there coming by to listen to the plant at a very, very prudent distance, they'll run into her.

Currently, she's found herself a nice place to sit on the grass, her bag open and a blanket under her making for a solitary (but maybe not for long) picnic. Or dinner picnic, considering the time it is. But Xanadu's as good a park as any to have a sandwich-and-fruit dinner with a nice, thick book to keep her company. If they do it in London, why can't she do it in the City?

And she will have to admit - the plant can sing.]
Guess they really do have lungs.
synanthrope: (Saya - natural woman)

[personal profile] synanthrope 2012-01-15 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Saya went for a walk, because she's hungry and she's looking for dinner, and the singing plant stopped her. First off it's needless, annoying noise, but second off, it's a singing plant.

A plant singing about being hungry.

She stands far enough away that the noise isn't as irritating but close enough that she has a clear view of the damn singing plant.]

Man-eating plants. I suppose there's some kind of karmic nature in that.

[Walking through the gardens, exploring, Sephiroth is looking as grave as ever, but with one difference. Nestled safely between his pauldrons and the collar of his leather jacket is a tiny black bird. Every now and then, it peeps, and Sephiroth reaches up to stroke its small head with a fingertip, completely ruining his imposing, militaristic image, not that he minds.

The ceaseless sound of ticking is far less noticeable in the presence of his new companion.

Sephiroth pauses as he catches sight (and also hears) the plant. Usually he eliminates monstrous things like that, and he is well armed, but this is a strange city, and he's not about to act rashly or destroy any lifeform that isn't obviously dangerous. But he studies it, watchfully.]

[ The Doctor might be one of the only people actually enjoying this performance. Well, maybe enjoying isn't the right word, but his ears don't seem to be aching too badly. He's watching from what is barely a safe distance from the plant, studying it with fascination in his eyes. ]

[ And occasionally yanking people back when they get too close. ]

[personal profile] beifongbandit 2012-01-15 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Toph has come to criticize. She doesn't seem concerned about the words as much as she's just simply annoyed by someone singing in the middle of the park. So she's standing there, occasionally offering completely unhelpful criticism. ]

Your roots are dry and your lyrics suck!
dulcisnuntius: (happy - Bikini and wine)

[personal profile] dulcisnuntius 2012-01-15 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dulcie has parked herself nearby with a picnic blanket and a bag full of snack. She's munching along happily, listening to the music and applauding after every number. Bravo!]

[Stephen saw the singing plant on his device at work, and figured this was something he had to see in person. If only for it making a fantastic story. He's standing a goods ways away, trying not to look too ridiculously baffled the entire time.]
charring: (wtf is this shit?)

[personal profile] charring 2012-01-15 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[The butterfly garden had been nice and Charlie had just been about to leave but the singing caught her attention. She followed it, stopping a good thirty feet from the singing...what the...]

[Eleanor really did try hard to keep herself focused. She'd gone to the gardens for a short break, books in a bag over her shoulder. Her plan was to study but that singing plant wasn't helping. She was seated on a bench only just within earshot of it and even then, it was annoying as hell.]
boutant: ([architect] sketch)

[personal profile] boutant 2012-01-15 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There had been a plan today -- sketching the architecture in Xanadu, and maybe seeing if she could bump into Janine -- but the singing plant derailed those. Instead, Ariadne has settled on a bench nearby, sketchbook and pencil in hand. It's not every day you get to draw a singing plant, after all. ]

[Arya is suspicious. Plants don't sing in Westeros. Not that she's seen. So with her face set in grim determination, Arya stalks towards the plant, sword clutched in her hand.]
designedtoparty: (you should see the looks on your faces)

[personal profile] designedtoparty 2012-01-15 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nathan's one of those people filming the plant. Of course he is. And throwing the occasional obnoxious comment right back at the plant. Being Nathan, he doesn't even seem to notice how close he's managed to get to the plant. Definitely closer than would be advisable.]
drinkslikeanan: (pretty when he's bleeding)

[Seth's been trying to get out of the flat at least once and a while. He likes be along as much as the next man (possibly slightly more), but the quiet was starting to drive him mad. He's taking a stroll around the gardens when he sees the crowd over by the singing plant and decides to investigate. Um... what the hell?]

[ There is probably a planet out there with singing plants, but Bones is less concerned about that than he is about the fact that the plant is singing about eating people. He's a doctor, after all. For now, he's taken up a position nearby, tricorder in hand as he scans the plant. ]
tangledintower: (-...what...?-)

[It wasn't as chilly as it had been over the past few days, so Rapunzel decided to go for a walk in Xanadu. It was always fascinating, seeing the changes the plants went through during the winter.

She's walking along, minding her own business, when she hears some...very, very weird music. Rapunzel frowns, wondering where on earth it could've come from, before going to track it down.

And when she finds the source...]

...A singing plant?

[ It's not that he means to compare, or turn up quite this close to the plant, or in all exist in a world where singing subjects of gardening frolic as matter of course, but - ]

...it holds a note better than most tavern singers.

[Euphie is standing close enough to watch and listen, but not too close to the singing plant. This is fascinating and more than a little disturbing.]

[Justin likes plants. He doesn't like singing. The novelty of a singing, blood-thirsty plant, however, is enough to make the noise bearable. He'd like to get a leaf and try grafting it to something that doesn't sing, which involves getting close...]

[Raymond isn't here to mingle, but he is here to see what the hell is going on. So far he's not sure if this is the strangest sight he's seen in this city yet, or...well, all right, he is fairly sure of it. But settling on that just seems like an invitation for even weirder things to happen.

Either way, he's keeping well away from the plant. He isn't particularly paying it much mind, but he is paying enough attention to know he'd rather not be eaten by it anytime soon.]

[Jack's curiosity had been piqued enough for him to come all the way out here, but now that he's in the gardens, he's finding himself regretting it. All of this foliage is only reminding him of Arcadia, even if the murmuring conversation he overhears isn't anything like the splicers screeching obscenities at him or the Rapture Reminders played over the PA...

So maybe it's only natural that his left hand is tense and clenched, ready to activate a plasmid at a moment's notice, no matter how much he's trying to talk himself out of his anxiety. Anyone would be nervous if they'd known what he'd been through, right? Right...maybe.]

[Xanadu wasn’t a place Estelle visited very often, in fact, she recently found out that such a beautiful place existed. Considering that she never got terribly far past the library, it wasn’t a surprise even given her curious nature. Though today, hearing the singing, such curiosity piques as she goes to find the source of the voice, and is a little surprised to see it’s coming from a plant? A talking plant? Well, she’s fought plants while on her journey, so such a creature shouldn’t be terribly odd, should it?]
