WHEN: Jan. 15 | the Xanadu gardens.
CHARACTERS: Everyone.
SUMMARY: we interrupt your regular Xanadu viewing for the following special reminder: ...the visit ain't over til the bloody plant sings.

That's right: our green belle been giving rather ~~obnoxious~~ titillating performances in Xanadu, to what can only be the... enjoyment... of certain Citizens. Adding injury to insult, it's quite possible that a couple of residents have also captured the plant's tune on film, and now the video's been turned into a network viral phenomenon!

But as Citizens surely know, every grand artist needs a doting live audience: come get dibs on more plant footage? Save someone from its evil clutches? Help a poor soul that's got lost in the gardens' great expanse? Get the plant to sign with your talent agency? Embark on a mystical quest to get it to shut up?

Just put your chlorophyll-tinted glasses on, and anything is possible.

[ ooc: Find whatever excuse to throw your character in Xanadu, tag someone new, and all around: GET IN HERE. Just as a note: hearing the plant is definitely optional, so please don't think it's an overwhelming sound that'd keep your character up at night or some such. It's just a log prompt. XD ]

I've heard worse, but yeah, reckon that's right.

[ He'll just move his tricorder so she can see the screen, though it may be difficult to read. ] Tricorder. It's a data sensing device, among other things.

A data sensing device? It collects data, is that it? [ Never going to not be curious. ] What else does it do?

Analyzes and records it, for one. Mine's the medical model, so it's also got diagnostic tools. Remember how we were talkin' about blood analysis?

Yes, of course. You would be doing it with-- this? [ Gesturing vaguely to the tricorder. ]

I could, yeah. It'd be quick, though; maybe not as accurate as anyone would like, so if I had access to some sort of lab or medical facility, I'd prefer to use what they've got there. But on away missions, this does just fine.

Do you go on away missions often?

I don't know yet. We'd only just shipped out before I got here.

[ Tessa frowns a little. She feels as though she knows him well, really, but there are many things she doesn't know at all about him. ] Are you in the military, then?

Starfleet, yeah. It's technically a "peacekeeping and humanitarian armada", and we explore, too... but it's still military.

And it is all in space? [ He mentioned a spaceship. Tessa can hardly imagine such things, has no frame of reference for it but the one book she started once and didn't finish because everything was so unfamiliar. ] Truly?

Right. [ He gives her a slight smile. ] Space and other planets. Sometimes our own, too -- I went to the Academy in San Francisco.

[ Tessa might have thought that she left wide-eyed wonder behind when she accepted that Shadowhunters and angels and demons and otherworlders are real, but apparently that is not the case. ] And there is life on other planets?

[ McCoy will just attempt to navigate the both of them a bit away from the plant so they can have this conversation without it trying to eat them. ] There is. A lot of it, in fact.

[ Tessa'll follow him willingly where he's navigating them. ] What is it like?

Depends on the planet, and the life you want to hear about. Vulcan, for example, that's a desert climate. Delta Vega is all ice.

And there's- people living on a planet that is all ice? They must be very acclimated to the cold.

Not as far as we know, though there's a Starfleet outpost there. There's animals, though. Not very friendly ones, either.

[ Tessa nods, slowly. ] It seems very hard to imagine that there should be life on other planets, but then I rather thought it would be hard to believe that vampires and fae and angels and demons are real, and yet they are.

[ There's a slight chuckle. ] See, life on other planets is just a fact for me. You're takin' it better than I took all the news about vampires an' so forth.

I had practice, I suppose, in having my worldview shaken up; I'd only gotten used to the vampires and warlocks and Shadowhunters before arriving here.

I've been told I'm a skeptic.

It is hard to doubt something when you have proof of it.

That depends on how many ways you think you can explain it away -- but in the end, yeah, you're right.

If you yourself were able to Change into a vampire or Change at all, I do not think it would be possible to explain such a thing away.
