Log;
Vash gave up looking for his things that he had apparently scattered around Wolfwood's apartment when he got a message from Conrad saying Rem had wanted to see him the night before. None of that mattered anymore. He rushed out of the apartment once he'd finished talking to Conrad and made a quick stop at a weaponry store to pick up the guns Conrad had asked him for.

He knew he must've made record time in getting everything and showing up at the apartment, but he really didn't pay much mind to it. All he could think about was Rem. Making sure she was okay. He needed her to be okay. So he had a hard time hiding how flustered he was when he went into the room she was resting in, afraid to speak until he was sure Rem wasn't asleep.

~*~

Rem? Was not asleep. She was finding it hard to even try now that she'd woken up and talked to a couple people. And Conrad wouldn't even let her so much as look at the network, so she was starting to get fidgety wanting to know how everyone was and what was going on. Rem was almost squeemish when she found out Conrad had a contageous virus just in the other room, but, hey, if she stayed where she was, she'd be fine.

It took a few minutes for her to register there was someone nearby; she'd been laying in silence for so long the last few hours, she didn't bother looking around. But the sense that someone was there finally kicked in. Conrad hadn't told her anyone was coming, so maybe it was just him checking on her. Cracking her eyes open, she shifted some to look at the door, squinting a bit. She realized it was someone not Conrad. "...Who...'s there?"

~*~

Vash hesitated for a moment, grinding his teeth in spite of himself. She was okay. She was awake. She'd come back like he had known she would.

"It's me, Rem," he said finally, almost afraid to move for some reason. "It's Vash."

~*~

Her eyes were finally starting to adjust, making out the figure before clearing up. And they suddenly were very wide. "...Vash.." And then suddenly very sad. With him there, that was more than enough reason for her to move. Rem started to push herself to sit up, wincing and grunting along the way.

"...H-hey..."

~*~

"Whoa, d-don't do that!" Vash exclaimed quickly, rushing over to the side of the bed to try and get her to stop moving. "It's fine, you don't need to sit up, really!"

He reached out to help her, but suddenly stopped. Was she still in pain? Would he hurt her more by touching her? He really hated this part.

"...Are you all right?"

~*~

Rem was stubborn; no one else had gotten her to just lay still since she revived. But if it was Vash, she'd lay limp and play dead if he asked it. So she stopped and watched him, then lay back again.

"...Ye-eah... Conrad won't really let me do anything but rest so.."

~*~

Vash just nodded and sank down to kneel next to the bed with worried eyes.

"Okay," he said quietly. "That's good. I-I was really worried about you... I'm so glad you're okay now."

He gently fingered Rem's hand into his own and continued to watch her anxiously. Nearly two days of horror and paranoia didn't go away in just a matter of seconds.

~*~

"...I know.." She watched him, nothing but apology in her eyes as she let him take hold of her hand. "Conr-rad and Meryl told me.." That he was more than just worried, that he'd been upset. That he'd been screaming wanting to get to her and they wouldn't let him. Rem weakly closed her hand around his as she watched him.

"....I-i'm sorry," her voice not above a quiet whisper as she kept her eyes on him.

~*~

"It's not your fault!" Vash said quickly. "You don't need to be sorry! It's better now, right? You're awake and the healers took care of you."

He looked down at her hand and then back up at her face.

"I'm sorry I couldn't...help you. Again."

~*~

"...Y-yeah.. I am."

Rem watched him, then down at his hand.

"...Y-you don't have to be sorry.. I didn't tell you I was going out there. You couldn't have known... I'm sorry.."

~*~

"It's okay," Vash said quietly, resting his chin on his arm, still watching Rem carefully. "I'm just glad it's over now."

He hadn't really lost her like he did all those years ago.

"...I was just really scared, Rem. They wouldn't tell me anything or let me go anywhere..."

~*~

Closing her eyes for a moment, she tried to rest for a minute before looking at him again.

"...I think they were worried since you seemed so frantic, from what I heard.. But, I'm okay. So.. It'll just be a while before I can get around again."

~*~

Vash nodded and shifted a little, breathing a soft sigh.

"Okay, Rem," he said passively. And it was. Finally. "We'll all be around to help, so just don't push yourself too hard."

~*~

"Y-you don't... Thank you." Rem wasn't exactly sure how to accept help like this, but she didn't want to make them worry anymore than she already had. Shifting a little, she glanced around then back to Vash.

"So.. what all has been going on? Conrad won't let me even look at the network, so I can't talk to anyone or anything."

~*~

Vash blinked.

"...Well... I've been sort of...out for a little while," he said meekly. 'Out' as in heavily sedated and contained by Wolfwood. "I'm not entirely sure what's been going on either. Sorry..."

~*~

Rem blinked slowly back, then smiled tiredly, as best she could. "I-it's nothing for you to be sorry for. I guess there's just a lot happening and you were scared about me.." The smile faded some as she thought about that.

~*~

Vash nodded again and glanced down at his own hands. He never did find that one glove. It was all right, it was his fake hand, but still...

"I need to go back to Wolfwood's apartment for a bit," he said, raising his head to look Rem in the eye. "I left some of my things there and I really should go get them. Will you...be all right?"

Stupid question... Conrad was there, after all. But Vash couldn't help worrying.

~*~

Rem looked back, a bit surprised until she heard him. He was... leaving already? Would he come back? She really wanted to still talk to him, even if she didn't have much to talk about. But.. if he needed to leave then what could she do?

"I'll be fine. I'm not really going anywhere," she put on a little smile.

~*~

Vash watched Rem carefully before leaning his head against her hand gently.

"I know," he murmured. "I'll try not to take too long, okay? I just need to find my glove. I lost it sometime last night..."

He paused to glance back over his shoulder to make sure no one else was listening and then leaned close to whisper.

"I'm pretty sure I tried to make Wolfwood read me a book last night. It was weird. I guess he gave me something. ...It was sorta funny, though."

~*~

"Okay.." When he leaned in closer, Rem just watched him. That.. that was too cute. She had to smile; if he really did do that, she could probably guess what book it was. "I'll bet it was. ...Hurry so you can come back."

~*~

Vash nodded eagerly with wide eyes.

"I will, Rem," he said sincerely. "I'll be as fast as I can, okay?"

Even if it meant turning Wolfwood's apartment upside-down.

~*~

Rem smiled more, "Okay, Vash..Thank you."

~*~

Vash smiled and squeezed Rem's hand gently before standing up and heading for the door.

"I'll be back soon!"
