WINTER GALA IS OPEN ~ !

Seen the sign? It’s everywhere.

And every little corner, and every little street, strident and glistening and snow everywhere. Statue here, statue there – North, South, East, West – they do call it the Square. There’s word they’re war heroes, or troubled hallows, or nothing of the sort. That might be ice they’re sculpted in – or the sliver in some champagne glass, because giants drink too, and the City knows things. The City doesn’t tell.

But the tap those statues once or twice, and tap them strong, and tap them well, and they’ll whisper a secret. The little Elf army scuttling about has seen better days for wear (mostly Thursdays), but they’re only three feet tall, and the silver powder on their cheek’s both rigidly applied, and rented. Kick’em. They’re fluent in seven languages, you know. They have a degree. Naghladi’gjamarai got a Nobel nomination last year; no one knows. The human reporter didn’t look down to his knee when he was interviewing. Humans, so damned righteous.

Like the lights everywhere can never go out.

Like they’re the first ones here, dancing all too merry.

Like it’s their celebration.

Like it’s not all coming out of their City taxes.

Idiots.

Two Big Requirements--sexy and a lady <3

She was the one at ease oddly enough. Some champagne and a nice evening out did wonders for her mood.

And what reason did she have to be tense about with a few strategically placed stilettos on her?

"It's what every good girl scout should do," she answered with a smile.

It calls for a theme song <3

"I was never in the girl scouts." At least she didn't think she was ever in girl scouts. With her cheery disposition as a child, however, it wasn't entirely out of the question. "I just know better."

Faye put the drink down and lit another cigarette. She'd lost count of their number at this point. "So where's your date?" she asked, producing a flame. "I wanted to say hi."

"I had a short stint. Be prepared or something and selling brownies. That's what I got out of it," true enough. And a very nasty camping trip for her troop. No need for that many details.

Lightly sipped at her own. "Bill's smoking. I felt like I'd take a look about see what's what. You should meet him." If Elle was supposed to feel nervous about her much older man, she missed the memo a long, long time ago.

"How about yours?" she asked idly. Was she concerned? No, not really. It wasn't her complete responsibility. Why should it? ...It could be. Maybe.

She kept her face neutral, actually thinking before she opened her mouth for once. Concentrate on this Bill guy, that was key. "Apparently I missed the memo about going outside of the outside to smoke," she said, emphasizing her point by sucking hard on her cigarette.

Faye rolled the taste around in her mouth before she exhaled and shrugged. "I don't need a date to come to a dance."

"I'm sure you're not the only one. He just wanted the fresh air and elbow room." Neutral perhaps, but that was tension drifting in the air with the cigarette smoke. "The turnout is pretty fucking amazing. I don't blame him."

Elle nodded. "True enough."

"Well what do you expect?" she asked, picking up her glass again and shifting. She felt her gun brush against the opposite thigh--that was comforting. "You put free alcohol and an excuse to dress up in front of these people and we're bound to bite."

She paused for a minute to take a drink and then smirked at Elle. "It brought you out and about, after all."

[identity profile] venomouselle.livejournal.com 2007-12-29 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
Elle gave a shrug. "I'm here for the opportunity. I can't help looking this good in just about anything. How often do I get to wear a gown?" It was a rhetorical question of course. Dresses as a whole just were not Elle Driver's thing.

"I haven't hit any of the alcohol. I imagine it's worth the trip." She kept an eye open around the room in case of Bill had come back.

"Obviously not often enough." She knew it wasn't meant to be answered, but she'd never really been able to keep those little bursts of joy all to herself. Sharing was caring.

"It wasn't at first. The first one of these things that I had was weaker than spit. Considering that you're someone who appreciates a good kick like this, I'd definitely suggest getting one." She almost winked, but she held herself back. She liked Elle--for the most part--and she didn't think winking was going to score her any aces.

Burst of joy indeed, How was she suppose to properly attack any one or anything without getting naked? Maybe that was the appeal.

"Sounds like the bartender learned fast. There are tips this time to lose around here." Tension remained but it wasn't aggressive. Elle felt a shred of relief in that.

[identity profile] glock30.livejournal.com 2007-12-29 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Faye didn't want to see Elle naked, really, she didn't, and they were making small talk, skirting around the larger issue here. Faye didn't necessarily want to breach it, especially considering what she now knew, but getting this matter shared between them out on the table might get rid of the tension altogether. Or at least 99% of it.

She made a non-committal noise in reply to the bartender comment and then added, "So have you talked to Cori lately? I mean, besides the little message on the Network."
