Leave the socializing to the experts. Charming noticed Vimes' ever dour self near the walls. He raised a hand, gesturing like he did to Blue: Good work, old man. You're doing well!

He glanced over, catching Charming's eye and giving a noncommittal nod back, reaching in his pocket to light up a cigar, tense and alert. Let the prince socialize. He'd hang around to make sure there wasn't an attack on either of their lives, and then back to the headquarters he'd go.

He pulled his collar aside briefly, showing the bare skin of his neck with another nod to Vimes. It wasn't meant to be a lewd gesture. More or less Charming was letting the commander know they had security watching their backs in the absence of magical shirts.

Sam resisted the urge to roll his eyes and then drew heavily on his lit cigar, exhaling a breath of smoke, holding up two fingers to his eyes, then pointing at Charming's back.
