Long, luscious brown locks blew elegantly in the wind, cascading against the summer breeze as it softly brushed the pretty complexion of the young girl's face. Pink darkened the apple of her cheeks, a light rose hue that heightened the natural beauty she possessed, bringing out the dusky color of her eyes. She was beautiful, endowed with an hourglass figure that most men swooned over, and a petite height that lent her a charming, demure appearance. Today however, her light brows were knit into an anxious expression of worry.
I...I wonder what Koizumi-san could want?
As if in response to even just the mere thought of his poetic name, the fluttering sensation of butterflies erupted within the center of her stomach. A long, pretty gown sweeping to her feet, Mikuru had found herself shopping earlier today, especially just for this. It was a dated dress, one she'd seen and read about from ages past, but she hadn't ever thought she would be wearing one. It was through much adversity that the young maiden was here right now, alone. The over lord who had captured her ages ago was ever looming. The lord's eyes and hands never far from her body. Even here within the confines of the city, the helpless young girl was kept on a tight leash.
But I had to see him... He had asked her to come, and alone. The excited pulse that had awakened in her heart at the message she'd received earlier, left the young time traveler in a daze. Even if it meant repercussions later, she knew that this was a meeting she would make at all costs. The ticking itself seemed far away, in comparison to the steady thump of her heart that this fated rendezvous seemed to induce.
So it was with a measure of anticipation that Mikuru's delicate feet led her on the strange trek to the lovely Gardens of Xanadu. Wringing her hands in a small nervous gesture, she hoped everything was all right and went well.

He knew the implications of his feelings towards the sparkling beauty. Of differing groups of differing agendas, they could never be. The horrific price he would have to pay for his forbidden emotions wouldn't be worth the painful struggle and the endless amount of risks it would cause. He knew this. He also knew that the sparkling beauty would never return his illicit feelings for her.
Yet there was something. Something that compelled him to ask of her presence here, in the Gardens of Xanadu. He couldn't place a finger on it, but there was definitely something different about him today. It was a sudden cognizance, a deep understanding into the precious hours of the morning that he, Itsuki Koizumi, was deeply and helplessly in love with one Mikuru Asahina.
He was deeply troubled by this revelation, yet oddly elated. It was if a delicate warmth spread through his chest whenever he thought of her. The way he saw it, there were only two possibilities. One, his feelings and emotions had been repressed for so long that he didn’t come to grips with his feelings until today; or two, he was simply under the influence of the deities.
He silently prayed it was the latter. He had never felt more hopeless and yet alive. These burdensome feelings were new to him for he had never experienced such intense emotion for another person before.
He contemplated further, waiting patiently for the object of his affections to arrive. For once in his life, he had no idea what he was doing. Usually reserved and in control of himself, his new train of thought frightened him. In truth, he wasn’t quite sure why he called her here.
Itsuki just wanted to be with her, and that was all.

Wahh.. Eyes casting about in amazement, her gaze was wide with the innocence of wonder. Sakura trees lined the gently strewn path she followed, their pale petals falling about her in a pink wonderland of snow. Lifting one of her fair hands before her in awe, she caught a couple of the fallen blooms. The fragrant scent of the tiny flowers filled her senses as they consumed the air. It's beautiful...
A light breeze blew the captured petals from her small hands. Following their path on the wind with a smile, she froze in surprise, when the flowers playfully fluttered past the solitary figure of a lone man.
All at once the butterflies Mikuru had been feeling all day erupted again into a flutter that left her speechless. Across the charmed path from where she stood was Itsuki Koizumi, the one true man of her dreams. Like a prince brought to life from the book of a fairytale, he was clothed in the white uniform of a natural born leader, a long, flowing cloak of rank strewn smartly across his tall frame. What looked like gold accented the light color of his attire, accompanied by a maroon which gave him a regal, royal appearance. The feather worn at the notch across his chest made him appear the the very picture of the man she'd always dreamed about as a small child. But this...it wasn't a dream.
Warmth spread across the soft complexion of Mikuru's face, and she couldn't help the blush that rose to betray her cheeks. Lips parting when she noticed he had seen her she moved to speak, and then stopped, uncertain what to say. These feelings were wrong. If her superiors knew the emotions she was harboring toward this man, she knew that she would be severely punished. They were from different time planes. The Itsuki she knew here didn't even exist in the world she belonged to. But a world without him...was one in which she couldn't bare to live. Always, she would have to treasure him from afar. Unlike the foolish heart of her own, which was so easily given away, she knew that it was impossible for him to feel the same.
Approaching him slowly, Mikuru wrung her hands before her anxiously, before switching them again to her back. With the strong gaze of his on her, looking at her so intently, she couldn't seem hold still. Now that she was closer, she was strangely aware of the obvious strength in his arms, and his height, which towered over her own. She was so small...she thought that if he was to try and hold her, she'd disappear into the strong embrace. In fact, she didn't think it would be something she would mind.
T-This isn't why I am here, she tried to remind herself. Koizumi-san is much more logical than that. Glancing up at him from beneath her long lashes, she smiled demurely.
"I came, just like you asked, Koizumi-san..." Fiddling unconsciously with her hands again, Mikuru hoped that the warmth she still felt burning her pale face wasn't too obvious. "I hope that you weren't waiting long."

Perhaps he was simply frozen from the many years of suppressed emotion. Perhaps he had forgotten how to truly feel at all.
Keeping a calm smile on the beautiful maiden, he spoke with the barest hint of hesitation in his voice, unsure of what to say.
“Thank you very much, Asahina-san.” It meant a lot to him, more than words could possibly describe to have her standing opposite him like that. “I….”
His words stopped short as his eyes began to widen. His mind blanked as he attempted to speak to her again, but the words wouldn’t come. “…I…” All he could think about was the beautiful young girl before him. He became confused; he knew that his feelings for her took over his heart, but to take over his rational mind?
That had never happened before. Never, in all his years of mastering his grand façade did the mask ever slip, even slightly. He prided himself on being able to think on his toes, being able to talk through difficult situations. He fought up against hideous, terrifying monsters most imaginations couldn’t even capture without breaking a single sweat.
But when faced in front of a young girl, this beautiful, majestic, young girl… Itsuki’s calm façade crumbled. She was the only one who had ever managed to make him feel this way.
Turning his head away from her, Itsuki was lost in a maze of his thoughts. It was then he decided. If ignoring his feelings made his heart so heavy it could burst, then the only logical option was to get his secret feelings for her out in the open.
Then, she would simply reject him, promise not to tell a soul and Itsuki will be left without these unnecessary feelings straddling and taking over his mind. Though it would leave his heart shattered, he knew it was the only way.
He just couldn’t go on, with this frightening ache in his chest… A feeling of an empty void that could never be filled.

Guarded, or perhaps more secretive than anything, there were many occasions in which Mikuru felt Itsuki's smile never touched his eyes. A facade of feigned grins and cheer, hiding the true feelings he carried inside. The organization he followed was one that Mikuru was wary of. Their objectives, though similar, were not the same, and she wasn't ignorant. Both groups were bound to have different methods in how to deal with the person who had forcibly turned Mikuru into a living toy on several occasions.
Today though it was different. There was no pretense in his eyes. No, there was nothing false about his gaze now, just an open sincerity that she was unaccustomed to seeing. And more...the way he looked at her. What was that in his eyes? Blinking up at him as his voice trailed off, she was surprised when he turned away.
"Koizumi-san...?" She said in a concerned voice. Wondering what could be wrong, she reached forward unthinkingly and grasped his hand. Almost immediately her face lit up in embarrassment. W-Why did I..? When his head turned back around to her, she gave a start, eyes automatically darting away. Being so careless! I can't let him see...it isn't right. He..He must be thinking I'm an idiot-
"I--I'm sorry," She managed, speaking through the embarrassment she felt. Free hand rising into the air, she covered one of her cheeks, as though attempting to disguise the blossoming blush spreading across her pretty face. "I just...I can't stand, whenever you look troubled..."

Guilt ate away at his conscience. He had idly stood by many a times when the innocent maiden before him had been abused and mistreated, showing no sympathy nor compassion for her at all. He was simply living to do his duty, never caring for anyone but himself. But now, a slightly pained expression masked his face in deep regret, his hand softly squeezing the other that had joined to him in worry. It was because of Mikuru’s tender heart that he was finally able to show his humanity.
As he noticed her flushing embarrassment, a faint pigment of his own painted his cheeks with a soft pink. It wasn’t nearly as noticeable as the beauty in front of him, but it was still there, as subtle and delicate as a beat from a butterfly’s wing. He would give it all just to stand with her, hand in hand like this. But as he broke the gentle bond to bring his hand to his side, he knew that no matter how hard he wished, he could never have what he wanted. It was one of the many choices he didn’t have as an esper.
Gathering his thoughts, he elegantly turned to stare deep and lovingly into her brightly lit orbs of loveliness. He had to confess now or his heart would be lost forever, regardless of what she would think of him in return.
“Asahina-san,” He began, the soft silk of his hair blowing in the breeze and hitting against his smooth, tinted skin, “I’m sorry to call you out here like this, but this is the only place I can speak to you privately without interruption.” His voice was as calm as a lonely beach on a hot summer’s day; his glistening eyes refusing to break contact with hers, becoming stranded in the deep pools of her irises. “What I’m about say to you, you must keep it to yourself.”
He took a deep breath, the hand Mikuru bestowed her magic touch upon curling slowly into a fist before continuing, “I need you to promise me won’t tell a soul about this. Once said, you can simply go about your business as normal and forget this ever happened. We can return to living how we were before this conversation.”
The sound of silence briefly filled the air in suspense, the petals picked up by the wind floating past the painted scene before them both.
“You can still back out and return now, if you like.”

It would be impossible for her to even consider using him. When..? When was it that she'd found that more than anything, she wanted to protect this gentle man? Those eyes that rarely revealed the true emotion swimming deep within them, it had become her true wish to see him smile with undisguised beauty and happiness. To see him so uncertain now, she wanted to lend him her support. There was nothing he could tell her that could make her feelings change. If he was there with her no matter how dire the situation, how frightening her captor could sometimes be, she knew that everything would be all right.
"Koizumi-san," She said in a comforting voice that rang with emotion and feeling. Reaching out with her other hand, her fingers gently caressed the tight fist he still held. Light as a feather, it trailed up his arm in a soothing touch. "If I..if I had reservations...or was unprepared, I wouldn't have come..."
Eyes fixing onto his with a determined, captivating light that refused to be ignored, they glowed with a welcoming honesty. "I promise, even though doing so...could possibly be against orders, your words are safe with me."
Could it really be so bad, that he wouldn't tell Kyon? Many a nights, in just her shift, tucked into her pillow, Mikuru had lie in bed, wondering what sort of things the mysterious, yet charming esper could have told him. The moral dilemma her heart was faced with right now was a troubling one. But there was nothing to do, beyond let events unfold. Taking a breath, her lashes closed to veil her liquid eyes as she prepared herself, fully expecting some sort of frightening news. It's fine, she thought, before a shy smile gently dimpled her cheeks.
"It might..sound a little strange, but...if it's from you, I feel like no matter what it is...everything will definitely be all right."

His superiors would heavily criticize such deplorable behaviour on his part. He was conditioned to believe that he should never give a ‘rival’ organization anything that they could use against them; particularly his subjective attachments. Yet looking into the delicate, sparkling pieces of amber, he sincerely believed in her. Brought up as an esper, he was forced to be extremely wary of others and never truly trust those who were not of his own… But Mikuru was so incredibly genuine, much unlike the manufactured, plastic manner that Itsuki usually carried himself in. Though deeply suspicious of the elegant young beauty at first meeting, he now felt that he could place all of his faith in her.
He chuckled softly out of irony. He knew that if Mikuru betrayed, everything was all over for him. But first and foremost, he would be unable to live on knowing that his love was capable of such heartless deceit. Without her dear compassion, he was nothing.
“Asahina-san,” His voice was buried with something distant and far away as he began, “This is difficult for me to explain, so please bear with me until I’ve finished.” He stepped in closer to her, their bodies barely over half a foot away from each other. “Ever since you arrived here in the City, certain things have been plaguing my mind.” He took a brief pause, is eyes gazing at something beyond the porcelain maiden before him. “I couldn’t stop thinking about you. Every second of the day, every single breath I took, reminded me of you. It’s very possible that these thoughts could put both of our lives in jeopardy, but they are growing at such an alarming rate that I can’t even fathom.”
“…My feelings for you are of a romantic and amorous intent.”
Another pause filled the air with silence as Itsuki stared deeply into her wide, glittering irises. His voice rung with sincerity and pained emotion as he reluctantly confessed;
“Mikuru Asahina, I think I am deeply in love with you.”

Pools of liquid warmth shimmered as they creased with emotion. A pained expression crossed her face. What was she supposed to do in this position. Heart bursting, all she could do was think of him. His very presence dominated all her reason, but--!
"Koizumi-san...I...more than anything else in the world, to have a relationship with someone outside of your own time plane, it's the largest taboo of all." To violate these rules was a crime, because it threatened the very future. Those found in violation were dealt with severely. Or worse-! If something was to happen to the innocent victim of her affection...
"To...to keep time in balance..."
But, if these things were so wrong, then how come her heart was shattering at the very thought of rejecting their shared feelings? Closing her eyes in frustration, she grasped onto the beautiful white fabric of his attire. "E-Even knowing that though, I..." Un-shed tears clinging wetly to her lashes in crystalline drops, she looked back up at him passionately. "I just want to be with you!"

However… He wanted to believe in something without consuming feelings of doubt for once. She clung to him so dearly, her gemstone eyes glistening with words that couldn’t be said. He wanted to believe in her. It was painful. How anyone could find it in their heart to love a person such as him was unthinkable. But the beautiful object of his desire was smarter than she appeared. Surely if she was just in love with his façade, she would run away at glimpses of his true self. Or so he told himself. How much did she know about the real Itsuki? But the same could be said for him. To understand the enigma of Mikuru Asahina was ‘classified information’, to say that he even knew her would be close to a lie.
But regardless of whether they truly knew each other or not, it didn’t stop his burning feelings towards her. It didn’t stop his heart swelling with emotions he never knew he had before. What an unfortunate circumstance this is. His expression pained, he knew that regardless of what they felt for each other, any form of emotional bond between them was strictly forbidden. Even with their feelings out in the open, both their walls brought down to a crumbling pile of sand, there was no way for them to possibly be together. Their love was too cruel.
“It would have been better if you just rejected me,” His chuckle low and hurt, his handsome face gave a wistful and tragic smile. He knew it was bad sign when he suddenly felt the urge to hold on to her tightly and never let her go, the numerous implications running loops around his head. Trying to find reason or logic in this situation was fruitless, his mind spinning with jumbled thoughts that didn’t make sense.
He was jaded by it. In world such as this one, how could anything make sense? Was there any point in thinking about reason at all? Repressing his desire for so long and going along with the boundaries set by the Organization had numbed him. Was it wrong for him to want to feel alive?
Itsuki’s arm encircled the fair maiden’s waist and pulled her into a warm embrace, her beautiful scent pleasantly smothering his senses. To taste the forbidden fruit would surely cast him out of Eden, and to be as selfish as to wish his fate on the one he loved would be unbearable. But with a quick glimpse at their surroundings, his chest beating too wildly to focus, he decided to forget all reason and stay true to his aching heart. His hand moving up to gently cup her chin and nudge her face upwards, his face pulled closer to hers as he cooed in a deep, hushed whisper.
“I need you, Mikuru…” Their lips just a hairsbreadth away, Itsuki moved to close the gap between them…
