handsomejack
Summary; Jack and Veronica meet to talk business. Not a euphemism!
Log;
Jack was getting ready to start doing some physical assembly on the Spitfire but first he had to get the proper machinery and equipment into position in the warehouse.
That was what he was doing today, stripped down to a t-shirt and slacks, he was moving heavy pieces of equipment from crates and working on bolting them down into the floor. His little CD player had come with him and was pumping out some cheerful 1940s swing dance music and it was possible that Jack was singing along with the music.
It was definite that he was crouched down, working bolts into the floor!

L-Log start! :D
Catchy, catchy.
She tried to find the door, found it, knocked politely to mark her entrance. But the sound was sort of drowned out against the music for her effort. Veronica cleared her throat, amused at the sight and sound of her new boss, singing, swinging, working. Man, it was like a musical. She thought she rather liked him already.
"Hey, Captain? Mars to Captain?"
Log continuation like a continuing thing!
Tucking a screwdriver he'd been using into his mouth, he reached over to tap at the leather wristband that encircled his left wrist and the music lowered dramatically.
"And good day to you as well, Miss Mars!" Jack called back in that good natured, carrying tone of his. Complete with winsome smile.
After all, she was very pretty and Jack's default was always 'flirt!'
Tucking the screwdriver into the back of his slacks, he wiped off his hands on a towel and walked towards her, extending one of said hands.
"Pleasure to meet you, now if only I'd been singing something utterly embarrassing and inappropriate that would have been even better."
FTW, BB. <3
"Swing music, though?" Cue an expression of slack disbelief. "Gets you up points than causes you to lose them."
WooHoo!
"Do I get the points back if I prove to be an excellent swing dancer?" He asked, hands going into the pockets of his slacks as he adopted a relaxed but obviously military 'at ease' bearing.
Re: WooHoo!
Veronica took the good Captain's word for it. He seemed honest enough, she liked that. Always good to work with someone you could trust.
Swing coming up...
Turning back to her, he held one hand out towards her, the other folded politely in the small of his back.
"May I have this dance?"
[ooc: Jack does love his 1940s (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r-Z-29HfH8) ;D]
Oh, my, he certainly delivers!
"I don't do swing, I don't even dance. Your toes? Murder if I try."
(OOC: Keep pushing, Jack. She might just fold. X3)
And enjoys every minute of it!
"I'm wearing steel toed boots," he countered.
He didn't chase or put pressure on her by closing on her personal space but rather continued to invite with his smile and the wiggle of fingers.
"It's fun, I promise."
[ooc: Coax, Coax!]
Every second, even!
Setting down her bag to the floor, Veronica gave Jack a quizzical look, streaked with some reluctance.
"Either way, whatever damage I do? Don't bill it, please." She took his hand, albeit hesitantly. Oh, well. His pain, right? "I don't want my first paycheck to come out in the negatives."
(OOC: skjlajksa I WATCHED THE VID. I DUNNO THE CANON, BUT JACK/JACK?! HOT. BUT CONFUSING, BUT HOT.)
Miliseconds even!
"You're going to be fine, Miss Mars." Jack said with all the belief in the world.
Also, he was good at trying to give them the best possible chance to succeed and to this end, as she took his hand, he didn't just whip off into a double time jitterbug. Instead, his other hand came from behind his back and reached to help steady her as he took the lead, giving her a very clear, on beat, yet slowed down tempo to keep up with him.
"Nice thing about the jitterbug, you're encouraged to watch your partner's feet," he said whimsically, making his feet do silly things to hopefully get her to laugh and relax.
Because really, dancing was all about the relaxing and going with the music.
[ooc: *Must.Restrain.Urge.To.Canon.Dump!* Confusing is what Tosh said! But in a nutshell, basically Jack was meeting and falling in love with the man who's name he stole when he was still being a scoundrel waaaaayyyy back when!]
NinjaJack, foshure!
She let her eyes skim to the floor in offhanded curiosity, trying to move, awkwardly in step. She really should've taken some more of those swing lessons with her dad. To his credit though, Jack did a right, even Veronica couldn't resist. She broke into a small smile at the off things he was doing, so random, but amusing.
"Watch your partner's feet or watch out for your partner's feet?" Her tone was light as they, well, she - tried - to dance.
(OOC: aslkjsla CANONDUMP ME. IDWANNA GO TO WIKI. D: ASLKSJA Jack's so charming! I'm watching other clips, and he's adoraaaable. And Tosh is awesome! ♥)
And they were Kung Fu Fightin!!!
"Maybe a little bit of both." Lesson number one, Jack didn't bullshit people he worked with at least not when they asked him questions so long as they weren't about himself.
Still he wasn't unkind in his answer and simply went about trying to genuinely help her find her steps and relax further, giving her a strong and confident lead in amongst the small sillies he threw in here and there to hopefully get her to laugh more!
Hey, resume reading could wait!
[ooc: OMG there is sooo much. I linked you to the 12th (of 13) episodes in Season 1 and it is considered by many fans to be one of the best. It was the first time the audience got a chance to see behind some of Jack's bravado and get a glimpse of the fact that he could be shy and genuinely charming and fall in love and get hurt and yet still be 'The Captain' in honor of the man he left behind to die. Tosh also gets to shine in this episode with her strength as a field operative and we see the power struggle between Ianto and Owen and get a hint of Jack and Ianto's relationship at that point in their story.
The nice thing about You Tube is I believe it currently has all the episodes posted for Torchwood, then you just have to fill in the pieces from Doctor Who which is where the character of Jack Harkness was first introduced ...aannnnd actually....

And she was fast as lightniiing, hyaaah.
For all of Jack's effort, Veronica laughed in good-natured response. Couldn't be helped when he was funny. Jack was a lot like her dad, just younger, with hair. A lot more hair. She smiled, turning her head to the side. Admittedly, it was nice. Kinda home away from home? Man. Veronica was really starting to miss her dad. And maybe, just a bit, she was getting into this whole swing dancing scene.
(OOC: Oh my, smooooking @ the last-- ♥ alskjsaa I THINK I WANNA BUY THIS SERIES NOW. >:)
Seen the dancing ninja hamsters that go with that song?
Eventually though, Jack gave her a playful spin and stopped torturing Veronica with the strangest job interview ever.
"Not bad," he said sincerely. "Always important that you try and hey, I'd say that you were getting better there, Miss. Mars. Though I imagine you'd like me to stop playing silly buggers at this point eh?"
[ooc: I tempt and enable this, like a tempting enabler!]
NO WAY. You serious?
"As enjoyable as this is--" Which it actually was. Surprise, surprise. "I think we could give your tap dancing feet a break, Captain." She laughed, rolling with the punches. Or, rather, spinning with them spins.
(Oh, you, tempting enabler, you. ♥)
Frighteningly enough I am!
"There we go!"
Motioning her over to a large drafting table upon which schematics lay, Jack started to walk in that direction.
"So, I've seen some of your photography work. How good are you at getting detailed shots in low lighting situation?"
Play to work to play, Jack could move smoothly between them without missing a beat.
[ooc: I do try! Besides, it's a fun series. No Shakespeare but good characters and fun stories. And to show I'm not insane... Hamsters! (http://www.tableandhome.com/prodgcece).]
i lol'd at the hamsters.. i swear. XD
Jack was up and going soon after, and Veronica was quick to follow. But not before she picked up her messenger back on the floor and reslung it over a shoulder.
"I gotta say it's my forte," she said honestly to the question as she trailed behind him. Which was nothing but the absolute truth. It was very much her specialty, considering trailing after philandering spouses in dark, dirty places was more than a usual occurrence for her. It was always about the money shot, and Veronica could deliver those good.
Kung-fu fighting hamsters for the win!
Rolling up the schematic papers, Jack offered Veronica the one seat and then tapped the table with his hand.
"Show me what you've got, Mars."
they're a-funny! <3
"This has enough on what you need to know about me." Veronica slipped Jack a white file from across the table, pulling it out of her messenger bag.
Cue: Portfolio one. It has her basic resume details, private social information, previous job employments, date of birth, parental information, living situation, a far more detailed information on talents, etc. As cheesy as it is, her grades were also in there somewhere too. Right, because she did graduate valedictorian and all.
"And, this is why you'd like to hire me." Slipped him this time a black one.
Cue: Portfolio two. A heap of pictures, low-lighted scenarios, a ton of money shots, personal favorites, color, greyscale, sepia, a lot of macroed nothings, really. Half of them are just for sheer pleasure. The others got her a job working for her school paper and busting guys into jail. Not half-bad for a girl her age, Veronica had to say.

"And you understand the importance of discretion with this work?" He asked, neatly putting everything back and handing it to her. "That's really what we get paid for. To do the job and then forget the pertinent faces."

"I know the name of the game. It's against my policy to ever open my mouth. My dad taught me that." She neatly slipped the folders back into her bag after Jack was done with his inspection. "We do what our client wants. They have our loyalty. You have my loyalty. And besides, I'd really not remember too many faces. There're too many weird people in this City to just go ahead and remember. The overload would kill me." She made a face.

Leaning against the table, Jack watched her for a moment and then nodded.
"Ianto Jones, Toshiko Sato, Gwen Cooper, Owen Harper they can all be references to what it's like working for me," yes he even added Owen in there! Fair disclosure and all that.
"Loyalty is important to me, doesn't have to be blind following, question all you want, but if I give a command out in the field or make a decision, that's that."
More so with out in the field, since that would be where they would be working together mostly. As for 'decisions' Jack had sort of relaxed all that as he'd let his team roam off on their own pursuits in the City.
"In return, as long as I feel I can trust you to do that, your business is your own, this isn't by any means exclusive work but anything you need from me, you have only to ask."
[ooc: Since we don't have voice inflections ... basically meaning that so long as he feels he can trust her in 'their' dealings he doesn't care and won't be nosy about other work she's doing in the City. :)]

She nodded in understanding. It was perfect. Jack had everything she needed, and she could provide whatever he needed. That, and she could easily (or try to) balance this with her other job with Brocklehurst. Even though Jack's had more priority in the end.
"Does that mean, why, yes, Veronica - your interview's going succinctly well, and you might just be--"

He gave Veronica a curious look as if he had no idea what she was trying to get him to say. He even held that look for a whole minute before his face cracked into his impish grin.
"Hiiiiirreeedddd?" Jack finally finished with a wink.
