(no subject)

Who: Remy LeBeau and Cecilia Reyes
When: Tuesday September 16 2008 (forward dated slightly)
What: Remy and Cecilia’s smarmy dinner.

Remy hadn’t been kidding when he’d promised somewhere nice. Cecilia felt positively underdressed in her best outfit – and before they’d gotten seated she’d been mistaken for a hostess – the menu didn’t have prices on it, and a lot of the entrée descriptions were in a foreign language. Cecilia was guessing Thai but she couldn’t tell the difference between Japanese and Chinese unless someone handed her a language primer and gave her a week to study it.

She did have to wonder what Remy was up to that he could afford this kind of place. But after a few moments of serious consideration she decided that she was probably better off not asking, and wouldn’t get a straight answer even if she did.

“This better be the best damn appetizer in my life if they’re too ashamed of the price to put it on here.” Cecilia hadn’t wanted to strain Remy’s pocket, but she had no idea whether she would or not with this set up.

Maybe Remy was a jerk; he'd taken the doctor out someplace ridiculous on purpose, because he knew her penchant for modesty. He enjoyed throwing people for loops, particularly people who actually had some sort of knowledge about him. He hadn't asked Cecilia when she was from, but considering she didn't seem inclined to hate him, he figured it couldn't be all that bad.

He chuckled, red-on-black eyes scanning over his own menu, seeming as casual and unconcerned as always. "Ordering by price is considered classless, cheri," he told her, "so they do what they can to encourage you otherwise."

For that, the good doctor got a bland look and Remy turning his menu around to show her that his menu had no prices listed either. She was always too serious, he thought, at least on the outside. The Cajun mutant carried all his twisted thoughts within himself - no one's business but his.

Well, until Antarctica.

Anyway.

Remy set the menu aside, having picked something out already, and gave her a look that was almost charming. He wasn't going to lay it on needlessly for her, as amusing as that might be. "Why not? Kinda rare, people from our world, no? Like you said, we best be lookin' out for each other. I don' know 'bout you, Doctor, but I prefer this sort of thing to spying on you."

"Why, is there somethin' you've been avoidin' knowledge of?"

It was a legitimate question, though he already figured the answer would have to do with Stark and their collective futures. Remy was still wondering how exactly he was going to 'nearly kill' Cable. Hopefully something that kept him off his ass for a while; Nate was irritating.

"You could ask me how I'm keepin', if I find anybody 'round here interesting, have I been down to de casino, how's Logan... plenty o'things, cheri."

"He's been here for eight months, apparently. Hard to think about, ah?"

Food ordered and sent, Remy was mildly pleased to see the menus whisked away. Now they'd have to find something else to focus on. "He lives with his lady-friend, name'o George. Coppertop, no surprise."

The look he gave her about the mercenary report was subtle, but still there. Peoples pasts were not something to be casually thrown about unless you'd earned the right. Cecilia had not; no matter how many alien dimensions she'd visited, she held herself aloft from the others, and thus the divide was her own doing. One or the other - she couldn't have both.

But he smoothed it over, reaching over to take his water glass.

"He works at de school, I believe. Woodshop. Community service otherwise. He's livin' a normal life, 'cause he's able, and I don't disdain him for it."

It was always the so-called 'educated' ones that looked down on everybody else, despite their own situations. It was the lack of that attitude that endeared people like Gambit and Wolverine to the likes of Charles Xavier. Did Cecilia know Remy had never set foot in a classroom, growing up? Would it lower her opinion even more? He wasn't sure if he cared. After all - she was the workaholic shutting herself away in this other dimension, and he was enjoying himself.

At least on the surface. Should his thoughts drift to those left behind...

"S'easier for people to be happy then you might think, Doctor Reyes," he said, giving her something of a smile, though his red eyes flashed - teasing, maybe.
