Log; Incomplete

When; Friday, October 24th; Evening
Rating; PG (shouldn't be more)
Characters; Abby [livejournal.com profile] caf_pow_girl and Carlos [livejournal.com profile] westcoastrc
Summary; The two go to Lux for a date.
Log; Abby is all dressed and ready to go. It wasn't that hard really. All she had to do was take off her lab coat after work. Now, she is sitting near the door with her dog at her side on the couch. Not that long ago, she was pacing but decided that typing away on her laptop was more productive. Much more soothing too.

There are always risks to going out on a date with someone you barely know. She'd gotten a stalker several years back because of that. Though, that's why she chose to have them go to Lux. Gren would be there. She isn't expecting Carlos to actually pull anything bad but knowing that a friend would be nearby just in case feels really good. Otherwise, she's actually pretty excited about that.

She does have a question though.

Turning to her dog, she frowns. "Jethro, do you think he's the fashionably late type or the right on time type? I can't figure it out. Never been on a date with a wizard before after all. It's kind of hard to figure out. I mean, I'm fine with either. Just not being stood up. That sucks. So, he better not do that. You don't think he will, do you?"

The German Shepherd looks up at her. He's still a puppy (even if his size doesn't show it) but he's a great listener.

Arrival

Carlos was nervous. He didn't want to be, but he was. He had to play it cool, though. There was no call for Abby to know he'd never been on an actual date before. None. He ran a hand nervously over his cin, feeling his ghost of a goatee and smiled his trademark grin. She said she thought it was adorable. Not exactly what he'd been going for, but it would suffice.

As he came up on the house that had to be hers he checked his watch. 7 o'clock on the dot. Damn, he was good. He straightened the legs of his newly purchased slacks, black with off-white pin stripes, and adjusted the fit of his black button down. You can do this, Carlos, he assured himself. You're the man.

He walked up the front steps and knocked.

Carlos' cocky smile wavered a bit, but he got it back in place. He really liked the way her pig-tails bounced when she walked. They were just so darned cute.

He smoothed his hand down his sleeve before offering his arm to her. "Well, I guess I just clean up well. You're lookin' pretty good yourself."

He turned from the door, but stopped short. "So, which way are we heading?" A slight blush was slowly turning his ears pink, but to his credit, it was the only uneasiness he as showing.

Huggy? Christ she was cute. He followed her lead, trying to pay attention to her and where they were going. He didn't want to have to take directions twice.

"I'll put it this way, Abby," He looked toward her, the smile never having left his face. "If hugs were to run for president, I wouldn't vote against them."

Her smile was infectious. He couldn't help himself. He had a good feeling about this date already, and they hadn't even made it to the club/bar thing yet. This was going to be a fun night.

He heaved a sigh of near-contentment. "So, was I gonna get one? Or do I have to wait?"

[identity profile] westcoastrc.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Carlos laughed. He couldn't remember the last time he'd just laughed. There was always something behind it, be it worry or fear, that flavored the laughter. Not this time. It was just happy.

He let her pull away, though. He was actually kind of hungry. "No, I think I'm good for now," he said, smiling all the while. If nothing else, this girl was fun to be around. She made it easy to put all his worry aside and just be Carlos. He couldn't remember the last time that had happened.

"I'm starving. Does this place serve food?"

[identity profile] westcoastrc.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"It sounds like food," Carlos replied, "I'm not very hard to please. If it fills me up, I'm there. Let's do it."

"So," he started, then paused. So what, he thought. He was no good at this small talk thing. He's never really had any practice. "What do you do when you're not...lab-working?"

[identity profile] westcoastrc.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Carlos shook his head. These curses were really confusing. He's only experienced the one, and with every moment that passed between he and Abby, he was more thankful to all the deities of this place for making them play Truth or Dare.

"I can't complain about the last curse. I mean, 'truth or dare'? Come on." He smiled his cocky smile and chuckled quietly. "If we hadn't played that, we'd never have met."

"I'd say it worked out pretty well for me, at least." His smile was more bashful this time, and he ducked his head a little as he said it. He felt genuinely lucky to be with her, even if it turned out to be just for the evening.

"I would've loved to see what you did that day."

"Sounds like it." He wondered why it took being shoved into another world to meet a girl like this.

He got a mischievous look on his face. "So," he whined in his best impersonation of a four year old. "Are we there yet?"

He laughed, as much at himself as at her 'mom' voice. "After a walk like that, it sure feels like Heaven." He gave her his smile again.
"Let's get some grub, chica."

He grabbed her hand and playfully dragged her inside.

Followed her pointing, taking a look at the menu, he cocked his head to the side and looked a little confused. He turned the menu over. He still looked confused. He could barely stop himself from laughing as he said, "What is that?"

The picture of chicken caesar salad was inviting. It looked pretty tasty, actually. "We don't have this stuff where I'm from." He smiled but quickly hid it.

"I think I'll just have the steak," He said, after pondering over the menu for a moment. It was confusing, looking at it, almost like visiting a new country.

"Oh," he said, realized she'd asked him a question. All this ... newness was starting to send his mind reeling. "I'm from L.A. Where are you from?"

[identity profile] westcoastrc.livejournal.com 2008-10-25 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I'm from L.A., but that doesn't mean I'm there very often. Hell, most of the time, I'm not even in California. I travel a lot for work."

He gave a chuckle. Work. From what he heard, the US Army gives out great benefits to it's soldiers. Sure, they send them off to war, possibly to die, but they have nice fringes. "My whole family's back in Los Angeles. I hardly ever see them. I didn't see them much during my apprenticeship, and now...well, almost never."
